Been a happy AT&T customer for 10 years now. We had Sprint before and they were decent back in the day, but I think smartphones and poor leadership really killed their network in the recent past.

Verizon's network is pretty good, but they're equal in my market and so, there's no point for me to pay extra for them. Also, I'm not a fan of CDMA, although, I have to admit that many of the qualms that I had with Verizon are almost a non issue now, such as the lack of GSM roaming, switching phones being a pain, slow internet, etc. Simultaneous voice and data is still missing on the iPhone, but a lot of Androids have it and it works fine.

Still though, I'd rather fall back to HSPA/+ than CDMA 3G if I were not in an LTE zone. I get 8-12Mb/s without LTE, so I'm pretty happy with that and my bill, which would cost at least $60 more on Verizon.

I'm not a fan of GSM and I couldn't tell you why. A lot of my phone calls on Verizons' network sound like I am standing next the person, clear crisp absolutely no distortion.

If I had to walk in to a corporate store for any carrier and get a cell phone plan today, I would be unhappy. Thankfully I have a plan I'm on that I am happy with.

I guess SVD is like driving a car with 400hp. Once you have a taste of it you can't live without it. But you would be amazed that you can actually drive a car with 250hp and still get to where you are going.

To be honest, I've never really noticed the "distorted, compressed call quality" that people like to associate CDMA networks with. Wouldn't really be an issue for me, personally.

I still like GSM better though :)

Also, it looks like your speeds fluctuate quite a bit.

I thought that CDMA was actually known for (at least somewhat) better call quality.

When I was on Verizon I used to get robotic sounding distortion in a lot of my phone calls. Usually when signal was 1-2 bars (which is all I could get at my house).

That's the problem with having a low signal, probably on 1X. 3-5 bars usually doesn't have that problem, especially on 3G for calls.

I usually have pretty good call quality and sound with Verizon. Today I lost audio in a call (could hear the other person, but they couldn't hear me), but I was in a concrete stairwell. The call didn't drop though!

I had AT&T for a few months in 2011 and would drop calls pretty often when calling my bf also on AT&T. Now he's on t-mobile, and I'm back on Verizon, and I don't recall having a dropped call recently.

You're judging something that you yourself admitted have no experience. That is, you've never used VZW yet you knock them.

for me, I found VZW to offer better products and services when I signed up for them. Coverage is never equal and always has to be considered. In the Boston area ATT isn't bad, and I've had them. I also had multiple dropped phone calls. Something that is a rarity on VZW.

Wow. I had the exact opposite experience. My wife, who was on Verizon up until very recently, was often getting spotty connection and consistently slower download rates.

We moved here about a year and a half ago. I've not had a single dropped call with AT&T.

Different strokes I guess.

I think the bottom line is that no carrier is perfect and you choose the one that has the best coverage, services and customer support.

As I read through this thread, I see a number of people talking at others, trying to convince them that ATT is better for XYZ reasons and other folks saying that VZW is better for ABC reasons.

The bottom line is that some like ATT, others T-MO and still others VZW. There is no wrong decision.

Bingo, that's really what it comes down to. There are also usually more things to consider than just focusing on one primary thing like prices, customer service, coverage, features, etc.--sometimes one or the other (or a combination of some of them) matter more or less to different people, again, without it being any more right or wrong, beyond simply what's important or not to an individual.

Verizon changed their edge discounts on 27th march for those on 10GB or 10GB + plans now it matches AT&T for 15$ per line (25$) discount , however after EDGE is paid off the discount goes away.

It was just 20$ few days ago.

That's nice I guess, but that whole bigger thing of not offering a discount to paid off owned phones is still quite a letdown.

Hello Verizon Customers:

Are you thinking about moving to AT&T? Or are you sticking with your plan on Verizon?

Heres my story...I have 2 iPhone 5(s) and 1 iphone 5s on my Verizon account. Currently I enjoy a 22% discount on Verizon. I am on the mobile share 10gb. My bill is about $210-$215 on Verizon right now. My contracts end this year in June, July and Sept. My iPhone 5s was purchased without a contract extension.

The move to AT&T would cost me efts fees of $150, $180, and $180 minus the $300 AT&T is giving for new lines of service for 3 lines. Net EFT out of my pocket is $210.

My husband and son would need new phones as they both have the iPhone 5 - however with the trade in value at BB both would be could get the phone they wanted without spending any pocket money.

AT&T plan would be $80 for 10gb (I have a 20% discount with AT$T) plus $40 dollars for the two new phones if I didnt go with the NEXT program and then $15 dollars for my line...approx bill with AT&T $175 + $15 taxes=$190

So although it not that much of a savings all phones would be upgraded to the latest and greatest and I would gain web access when I am on the phone.

So have you done the math for you account? Are you switching?? Thoughts???

I will be watching closely for Verizons next move- I am not ready to switch today but the next 3 months will be key for me.

Most important of all is how's the coverage ATT provides where your family uses their phones??? Keep in mind there are places where ATT or Verizon have service but it's not exactly good
Next go into an ATT store and be sure the discount your talking about would apply to the plan U want and how much it would be in $$$. & cents
Be sure all the phone exchanges and upgrades are doable
Bottom line: most likely the savings if any will be minimal

Been an ATT customer for 2 weeks plus...so far the service is better during my commute with ATT- the price difference is $70 bucks a month. I made the right choice.

I wasn't trying to say one decision was better than the other. Just sharing my experiences and surprised ours are so different in the relatively small city that Boston is.
