LOLOLOLOLOL...

No SIM card slot - good luck unlocking it for use on other carriers...

Since it's CMDA only, you can't use it on GSM networks so there's less reason to unlock it anyway.

Granted, some people will want to unlock it to use it on Sprint or China CMDA networks., but the lack of sim slot has nothing to with unlocking the CMDA network.

hotspot is awesome. I've been with AT&T since they were AT&T wireless, (that is, to say, before the cingular merger.) I am not a fan of Verizon, but AT&T needs to add hotspot also or I might actually be tempted to leave.

At least your AT&T phone would be worth something.

Used Verizon phones here are near worthless used unless you intend on using them on Verizon...

Honestly, for me, it's not enough to switch from ATT to VZ. I like the hotspot, but don't like no data while on a call. I bet this was actually part of Apple's plan. They don't want people switching from their longtime partner, they want the phone to bring in new blood.

It couldnt have been part of Apple's plan. CDMA doesnt support voice and data at the same time YET. Hopefully it will soon but the technology isnt available yet so even if apple wanted to make it available they couldnt have.

I'm surprised at how little Apple has had a hand in this...I expected someone from Apple to get on stage at the event, but nothing... It seems to me like Verizon had a lot of control over what this version of the phone could do. And I bet ya Verizon helped them change the antenna.

The "old" antenna does work, ive never had issues with it on my iphone 4.

the "new" one is probably just an improvement to the antennas sensibility or a way to avoid the contact bridging that could cause the issue.

But it doesn´t work for many people.

In my personal experience 3GS had much better signal.

Wow, so reading through the first 3 pages of this thread so far has caused me to lose a lot of faith in this MacRumors community. Things that I thought were basic and everyone knew, most people don't seem to have a clue about. Things like the CDMA and GSM phones are completely different and incompatible to each other. The fact that CDMA is voice or data but not both at the same time. There's been about 50 people on this thread all asking the same 3 or 4 questions that I thought were common knowledge. This is very saddening. Before you post a stupid question that at this point you should already know the answer to, please read through the thread because it's already been answered, several times.

Sorry to be harsh, but this was painful to read.

Oh boy. A 7 month old phone that is not 4G and now can't to voice / data together with an uncertain pricing plan. Yeah - that's tempting.

It's and iPhone 4. Every teenager and college kid with a family Verizon plan is going to drop their current phone like last years prom queen and move on to this hottie. Stick with you Android neo-4G and the rest of us will be social and fun with lots of good apps.

That´s because Apple doesn´t want to make a big fuzz about this "silent antenna fix".

What do you think they would say if they would have took the stage?

"Yeah we fixed the antenna by the way, although there wasn´t anything to fix".

Correct the article: Go to store.apple.com and click on iphone. Go to gallery. Plenty of white iPhone.

Do either of you have any idea who Tim Cook is? He took the stage and was part of the Q&A session.

There is still plenty more

- merging of iOS and os x
- MacPro case redesign
- Jobs retirement
- slow demise of iOS to Android.

Facetime on 3G for AT&T, if and when AT&T brings that to the iPhone, which they very may well do soon because of the Verizon iPhone.

Facetime on 3G for Verizon, might not be able to simply because most Facetime starts out as a voice call and initiates a data transfer. The call does terminate. But I'm not sure it would be as easy for Verizon to implement if they can at all. AT&T on the other hand everyone says has faster data speeds though less consistent signal strength, so when you are getting a good signal, Facetime would work better over 3G on AT&T than Verizon.

The only reason I don't see this coming is because of the astronomical data usage that FaceTime over 3G requires. Engadget notes that FaceTime over 3G uses around 3MB of data per minute.

I've tried FaceTime over 3G before (I have 3G Unrestrictor installed on my jailbroken iPhone) and while the call will hold while on WiFi, it fairly consistently drops after a few minutes while on 3G. I surmise that, because of the high data usage, it's difficult for one tower to maintain that stream of data for you. Either that or AT&T has some sort of restriction as to how much data you can stream without interruption.

Very good points. I'm sure there will be no Facetime 3G on the VZW iPhone until it get's LTE.

Thank heavens for 1 year contracts ;)

For most people who get an iPhone 4 from Verizon this will be their first iPhone 4, so other retailers may lose out on the sale, but the new customer won't see any difference.

Been with the iPhone since 2005 until October this year. I had to switch so that I could actually complete my phone calls. Was really hoping for this because the Droid X is GARBAGE compared to the iPhone 4 or even 3G. Now I just need to find a way to only pay $299 for it ;).

+1 I don't like paying roaming rates. At least with the GSM version, I have the option to jb/unlock so I can use it overseas without paying a premium.

I'm curious to see how much Verizon will charge for the hotspot and how many gigs you'll get with it. Personally, I don't believe Verizon will offer unlimited. However, it's nice they'll probably make the hotspot allowance separate from the user allowance. I wish AT&T would offer a separate allowance on their tethering that I could bolt occasionally on to my unlimited usage.
Well, I might have gone for it, by CMDA only doesn't appeal to me. I travel internationally, so would want one that handles both. Maybe iPhone 5.

I am starting to think that Apple did not plan on releasing a iPhone 5 this year for ATT. The fact that the iPhone 4 for ATT was released with 512MB of RAM and the iPad and iPod Touch were only released with 256MB of RAM. I think Apple hoped to have the ATT iPhone last 2 years and let the Verizon iPhone 4 last 1 year. Then in 2012 release one iPhone to work on all networks. However due to antennagate, and the leaked images of a iPhone 4 antenna housing with a seams in the same position of the Verizon iPhone while including a sim tray, I now think Apple will release a revision b iPhone 4 in June. This one could work on all networks in the US and world. I also think this one will have a couple extra hardware features, like the way the compass was added to the iPhone 3GS, but nothing significant. I am not even sure it will have a faster CPU speed. The one thing I am wondering is if this phone will be sold unlocked in the US. Tim said a non-exclusive agreement, and if the Verizon phone does have the Qualcomm chip in it, why not release a version of the same phone with a SIM tray in June?

my 2 cents ...

How will Personal Hotspot connect with other devices? Personal Hotspot basically acts like wi-fi wherever you're at right (well not wi-fi but using 3G)? I think that would be great for AT&T. I just don't know what devices would be compatible with it.

Also, I had no idea about CDMA no voice & no data at the same time. Can anyone give me an example of that? Or is it what I think that you can't use internet via 3G and calls at the same time? Would this be the same for any app using the network and calling? You can't text and call at the same time? Sorry for the questions, I know very little about this.
