- Personal Hotspot: The Verizon iPhone 4 supports personal hotspot services, allowing up to five devices to share the phone's 3G data connection. Configuration options for the hotspot functionality are cleanly located within the iPhone's standard Settings application rather than in a separate application.

Verizon has not announced pricing for the iPhone 4 data plans, although the carrier has been rumored to be utilizing its standard data packages for on-phone usage, which include an option for unlimited data at $29.99 per month. Hotspot data pricing, however, remains unknown, as the carrier currently charges users of many of its smartphones an additional $20 per month for a separate 2 GB data allotment for personal hotspot use, although some devices such as those from Palm include a 5 GB hotspot allotment with no extra monthly charges.

$199 for the 16GB, $299 for 32GB -- mobile hotspot included! Up to 5 devices.

That's what they said in the PC, that the mobile hotspot was included so I assume it's an iphone exclusive package.

i am quite surprised at some of the comments here regarding mobile technology.

for those who are going to "make fun of" the verizon iphone shortfalls please research about CDMA and GSM before you post. it will make you sound less like a fool

So I can't use my BRAND NEW GARMIN APP and be on the phone at the same time....really? I know no voice and data, but im not sure how that works since it may use GPS data and not cellular data. Don't flame me, im asking if there's a difference.

I haven't read all the comments yet, so sorry if I repeat anything. I've used my gps on my Motorola Droid and received a call. I did keep it short, but the voice actually kept talking in my ear. I don't know if it stores the data or what, but it never stopped or reset my directions. It's not deal breaker for me, I actually don't want to be on a call while using gps. I want my attention on the directions, but that's just me.

Been with the iPhone since 2005 until October this year. I had to switch so that I could actually complete my phone calls. Was really hoping for this because the Droid X is GARBAGE compared to the iPhone 4 or even 3G. Now I just need to find a way to only pay $299 for it ;).

Really? That's interesting since the iPhone came out in June of 2007.

Yes, and you lack of supporting arguments makes you look like so much less of a fool...

Oh, BTW when is the unlock for the VW iphone going to be out!:D

Wow, at first I thought Verizon photoshopped this pic poorly, but it appears that the images are from Apple's site: notice the misplaced black antenna seperations in the reflection lol! Edit: Also, the mute switch isn't spaced the same either in the reflection haha.

Really? HaHa, I must of read right over that! :p I'm still surprised that Steve jobs wasn't there announcing it. I have a feeling that he wasn't all for the iPhone coming out for Verizon in February.

I think that Steve Jobs just didn't feel like it was important enough for him to fly out to New York (I mean its the same phone just on a different carrier- or basically the same phone).

Plus it makes sense for Tim Cook to announce it since one day someone will hav to replace Jobs and Tim Cook seems like a possible candidate.

They changed it to the proper phone but forgot the reflections. Where do you see that?

Does iOS 4.2.5 take up 2 extra gigs of space than iOS. 4.2.1?

What else could account for a capacity of 27.1GB (shown in pic) vs the 29.1GB that I get with my 32GB ATT model?

Of course, it's unavoidable. Attenuation happens to all phones. The question is the severity.

This is all fine a nd dany but what happenes in July when a new one comes out the people that buy one now would be screwed, no?

My guess is that AT&T will get timed exclusivity until Apple makes a CDMA/GSM + LTE version. Might have been one of the conditions of the contract.

From the video on engadget's website, it seemed to have had almost a full second page of pre-installed apps.

Where did my 2 GB go?

Why does the Verizon iPhone only have 27.1GB capacity (AT&T iPhone has 29.1GB)?

(see pics on article)

2GB can store quite a few songs/movies/apps. And if you get a 16GB phone, 2GB less is a big difference.

wouldn't personal hotspot disable your phone functionality? You wouldn't be able to make or receive calls, or if you do, it'll disable the hotspot.. very incovenient..

You can still make and receive calls.

What are the chances of reversing this process so that you force calls to go straight to voicemail as not not disrupt your internet?

Some Verizon smartphones have an option that you can set to shunt incoming calls to voicemail. Dunno about the iPhone. Might be possible with a * code too, not sure.

Used Verizon phones here are near worthless used unless you intend on using them on Verizon...

Used Verizon phones often fetch good prices on eBay or Craigslist. Especially the hot sellers.

Yeah, nobody is buying the 7 month old iPhone, that is not 4G, on AT&T anymore. And nobody is buying smartphones at Verizon because they can't do voice / data together.

Just to clarify, I meant that's it's not at all tempting to SWITCH to Verizon if you are already an AT&T customer with an iPhone 4.

On the video Engadget posted they had a 2nd page of installed apps, so it could easily be those game and such that was on the demo phones.

I'd love to see a side by side test of an AT&T iPhone vs. a Verizon iPhone. Just wondering what download/upload speed is like, signal strength, etc.

Also wonder how it'll affect each company's network. I'm sure a lot of people will get the Verizon iPhone, with many switching from the AT&T iPhone.
