Back during the Verizon iPhone 4 deliveries, a couple other people tried doing this. Very dependent on the location. One location gave an emphatic 'no' while another was compliant. I believe the guy uploaded a video of him going to the distribution center and picking it up on macrumors.

Yep. I remember the video and you are correct...it was up to the facility.
 
I pre-ordered 2 phones directly from Verizon, one for me and one for my wife. I ordered mine first and haven't gotten any response yet, the one for my wife is shipping. She's an existing Verizon customer, and I'm switching from AT&T, so I'm guessing that's why my order is taking longer to process. It still shows 9/21 so I'm not worried yet. I may give them a call if I don't see any updates by Wednesday afternoon.

Same situation for me except the one switching from AT&T has shipped (and I ordered it after)

Give it some time. They are sending out tons of emails about tracking etc. I imagine they assigning fedex numbers in the system and then you will eventually get an email update. I would not be worried at all about it. Same thing happened during the iPhone 4 release and people panicked. All worked out fine.
 
I don't think you can pick it up until the first failed delivery attempt.

You can call them ahead of time and they will just hold it instead of putting it on the truck for delivery. That's how I obtained my last one, since I knew I wasn't going to be home to sign for it. I just stopped by the FedEx facility on the way home and picked it up.
 
I'm doing the signature in front of the door to drop off package cause I won't be home til later.

and im going by your house to pick it up..

i'll just sign it on my front door to have them take it to the office, or my neighbors.
 
I just received my wife's new iPhone 4 this afternoon from FedEx/Verizon. She's coming over from AT&T and her number became active on Verizon nearly instantly upon connecting to iTunes. My guess is the process will be slower on Friday with the increased volume of porting.

For what it's worth, I was talking with the FedEx guy about the big batch of Friday deliveries. He said that they're planning on doing Saturday deliveries to those that they're unable to deliver Friday. I told him that he'd have some upset people who expected their phones Friday and didn't get them. He clarified that the special Saturday delivery would be for those they attempted Friday, but were unsuccessful.

So for those that may miss their FedEx guy Friday, there may be some hope that they'll return Saturday.
 
Here is where I stand:

2 orders made at 3am est friday. 1st order was for a white 64gb. 2nd order was for a black 32gb.

So far I have no progress on my white 64gb phone. NOTHING!!

However the black 32gb phone is shipped with tracking info emailed.

Both orders are from location D771101.

This tells me they are waiting for stock, or they just didnt get to the white 64gb phone yet at this location.
 
should i feel ashamed i am using one of my two monitors at work solely for my fedex tracking? and its set to auto refresh every 15 seconds?
 
It's moving again.

I seriously hope this means there is a slight chance they screw up and delivery it before the 21st.

You have awful spam filters and it's blocking the email. Use a real email provider like gmail.
 
Seems like mine is doing well. Things changed all day from the verizon site just saying 'order has been processed and will ship'. I never recieved an e-mail from Verizon but got a text message to which I had to reply "Yes".

Try this, for anyone who hasn't received shipping info:

Call VZW customer service: 1 (800) 922-0204

Press either 'new customer' or existing customer'

Press the number for 'order status'

Enter your 'order reference number' (16 digits)

Mine says "preparing for shipment on the 21st", even though I haven't received a shipment notification and my order status hasn't changed.

So this is an alternative to anyone who is panicking over no changes to their order status.
