It happened to my Amex as well. My initial status was for a shipment date of 9/21. After Amex rejected my charge, the status changed to 10/5. I called Verizon and spoke to the first customer rep. He was clueless and said that since the charge was rejected he could no longer process the order. The only way to process the order is to cancel the original order and initiate a new one which would ship on 10/5. I said to not do anything.
I called back another CSR and she was a little more knowledgeable. She said that she ran in to the same problem earlier. She initially could not manually push the payment request to Amex but found another way to trigger the payment. The charge is now showing as a pending in the Amex portal.
However, the current status in the Verizon portal changed to "We received your order and it is in process. Payment not taken yet." and the "Expected Ship Date" is now blank. I'm hoping that they will process the order now for shipment. I'll call them tomorrow to see if there's a hold up in my order and argue that it should be processed immediately since they already charged my credit card.

Good Luck! I'll try calling today. Seems their online order office doesn't open til 8 though unlike Customer Service which opens at 6. My portal also says "We received your order and it is in process. Payment not yet taken", but my expected ship date is 10/5. I just checked my CC online and it has still not been charged. What did your portal say before they received your order and is in process??
