Hmm interesting...I wouldn't trust that honestly. When I gave my sister my old Thunderbolt she had to go get a new SIM. I would call before you activate it but who knows. Good luck to you all

Verizon iPhone 5 Preorder Status Thread

Earlier this year (March 2012) I pre-ordered (via Apple online) my iPad 3, I was able to get FedEx to HOLD my package for early morning p/u at my local FedEx distribution center on iPad 3 'roll out day' (03/16/12). I had hoped to do the same this time around with my scheduled 9/21 roll out day delivery of iPhone 5, but this time ordered from Verizon. I was disappointed to learn now from FedEx that Verizon's not allowing their iPhone 5 shipments to be held for p/u at FedEx offices, and that all iPhone deliveries must attempt deliver (at least once) to the shipping street address first.
I'm wondering now if I had purchased my iPhone 5 from Apple, AT&T (or another phone carrier) if my package could have been held for p/u at my local FedEx Distr. Center like I was able to do earlier this year with my iPad 3 package. Anybody know?

I ordered mine directly from Verizon, and I called FedEx today to have them hold my packages (it won't allow you to do it on the website) since I won't be home for delivery. I was told yes, without any problems at all, and he entered it into the system. Then a very short while later, my local FedEx sorting called me to verify the two tracking numbers they'll be holding for me. I plan to pick them up at 8:00 am on my way to work.
Call 1-800-GOFEDEX, press 0 to talk to someone, and tell them you will not be home for delivery tomorrow and that you'd like to pick it up from the sorting facility (Note: this is NOT your local FedEx store - that's a different kind of "hold for pickup" I believe). I don't see why they'd want to waste time trying to deliver something, if they know you won't be there.
yeah dito... i might just go into one of the gowireless stores after picking mine up from FedEx.... if anything it'll be fun to mess with the employees showing off a new 64gb black... my preorder otterbox came in today... Jesus the iphone 5 is thin.... drastic difference between my iphone 4/4S otterbox and the new iphone 5 otterbox....
Yeah...I would just call first or try doing it online before you activate it because I honestly don't know how hard it is going to be to get a nano SIM. The stores are going to be packed as is.

There are only two daily Fedex flight from Memphis to ONT one in the morning and one in the afternoon!

If you want the phone in < 3 weeks time, your best bet is plan to pick one up at an Apple Store (or Verizon, or Best Buy, or ??). The Apple Stores may have the greatest supply for walk-in customers.
My local Apple Store guys say "we're definitely going to have a lot of iPhones tomorrow", but the lines should be amazing. One could wait a week for the lines to decrease, then pick one up at the store. Alternatively, order on-line thru Verizon (Delivery now says by 10/12) and you could always change your mind about getting one sooner at the stores, if possible.
i went to my local fedex facility to see if they would be willing to hold it as well. But they wont because verizon is requiring them to make at least one delivery attempt. another facility that i use will hold but when they went to deliver it to me they would scan a delivery exception in the system (delivery attempt) and then scan in the delivery. kind of beating the system but at least they were willing to do that for me. I guess it just depends on your local facility. I work nights as well so Im planning to be up all night and untill 3 pm tomorrow. I'm also going to leave a note for the fedex driver telling him that i may be asleep and to knock loudly and if i dont answer its okay to leave. ive also asked my neighbor to be on the look out for it.

mine has department memphis at 4pm this afternoon. Memphis is about eight hours for my location in ohio so im sure its on a truck on its way up.
My sister-in-law pre-ordered through Verizon and everything has shown a 9/21 date but she still hasn't received a tracking number. Logging in tonight it still shows 9/21

Mine was stuck in Memphis all yesterday too. It just hit Grand Rapids sorting facility at 5:59pm today. I live 2.5 hours north of there.

I was worried because I didn't see another scheduled flight for Ontario (direct flight), but there's a few other flights that have connection flights.
Getting worried my phone has been at Newark nj sine 8am and has not departed its just been went from arrived at Newark then to at Newark location I hope it leaves soon I know iptheres usually one stop between there and my FedEx location
That's weird. I wonder my iPhone took the flight to LA instead of the earlier flight to Ontario (which is my neighboring city). That just seems like a waste of fuel.
LA folks unite! I just moved here from Orange County, and this traffic is such a patience test.
I drove around for a few hours today, and saw an usually high amount of FedEx trucks. Guess they're getting ready for tomorrow's rush.
Does FedEx have a form that you can sign authorizing them to leave your delivery if you aren't there? Have a doctor's appointment for my daughter at 2:30 and have to leave my house at 2. Delivery supposed to be before 3, so hopefully it will already be here, but just in case, is that an option?
