Who really needs to use voice and data at the same time anyway? I barely use it for a few reasons.

1. It's rude.

2. If I'm traveling, i'm not going to juggle managing a call and opening a document at the same time. That's asking for a car accident. If I'm not in the car, I'll use my laptop if the phone call REALLY lasts that long. (but i'm a college male, so my phone conversations are utility based and under 3 minutes usually)

3. I don't find it necessary. If i want to see a movie, i'll call a few friends, one after another to see what they want to see. In between calls I can easily get all the info I need. Or i could send them a link to the times or text them (being realistic)

It's really a non-issue for me. I don't see why everyone on here has to complain about such small things without fail. I live in the mountains of NC and service goes in and out all the time with AT&T. I have 1-2 bars usually in my apartment. If i hold it weird (i have a 3gs) it drops to no service then recovers with edge for a few minutes. It'll be nice to have a phone that works while inside. It's too cold here to walk outside to hear someone.

how about an analogy?
Verison is to data as AT&T is to inside.

3G Microcell not for all..

I bought a microcell and it did not solve my issues with reception within my home. In fact, it competed with the cell tower for supremacy actually causing dropped calls by not switching off and on properly. 3 weeks of wondering why I get dropped calls either way because the signal is inconsistent but strong enough to cause the 3G-MC to be a schlimmer verbesserung, an upgrade that degraded performance.:apple:

Microcell failure

I've had a microcell tower for a few months. My experience with my AT&T iPhone has improved slightly, but the amount of dropped calls is still unsatisfactory. I still experience multiple drops during calls, even those placed when sitting next to the microcell tower. All while my wife sits next to me chatting it up on Verizon.

Seriously. Where do you guys live?

I live in SoCal and travel from San Diego to Los Angeles to Las Vegas to Phoenix on business. And I don't ever "drop a call 4 times".

This. Whenever I have phone-connectivity issues, or dropped calls, I ask the client "Which provider are you on?" They're answer: "Verizon"

Um.... I use it all the time to look up info that is related to the call that I'm on at the time. How is that rude?

How is it any different than being on a call and using your laptop? If one is rude, so is the other.

I'm very happy that it's a non-issue to you, but not everyone is you. Some people actually like things that you don't like. Amazing, no?

If I feel bored one day, maybe I'll reconnect it and troubleshoot with a MicroCell rep. I don't feel like being on the phone with them for an hour just yet.

I guarantee you that will be an hour wasted. AT&T does not care. They have made it abundantly clear that those who have Microcells that don't work can go pound sand.

I had to troubleshoot with a MicroCell rep when I first got it, and they were very patient and helpful.

However, I do agree that any hour that I spend on the phone with AT&T/Time Warner Cable/Citibank/Insurance companies is an hour wasted. It doesn't matter what the outcome is.

It's pretty sad that AT&T has to offer free Microcell devices to boost cell phone signals in houses. It's disgusting that this offer only happens now that Verizon is carrying the iPhone 4. Are they officially admitting their cell signal sucks and have been providing customers inadequate service for years?

The only thing more disgusting than that is that it costs more than an entry level iPhone.

Hahah I absolutely love this.

Wish I could switch to Verizon. I'd pay the cancellation fee if it was just me but I'm on a family plan with 5 lines and those cancellation fees add up.

Verizon would do that.
Why no more Droid commercials, Verizon? lol

Even though I have AT&T and have no intentions of switching to Verizon, I kind of like the commercial haha.

So now T-Mobile is going to have to try twice as hard to get people not to go with iPhone in general.

Its been a while since that guy (can you hear me now?) has been in the commercials ! YESSSS

Interestingly enough, the Verizon iPhone shows the time on the incoming call screen. I'm pretty sure mines doesn't do that.

Heheheh! T-Mobile may not have the iPhone, but has Unlimited 4G (or 3G) with free Tethering. That's what really keeps me there.

Ok, I'm the biggest critic out there of the Microcell, but even I have to say that's an unreasonable argument.

I'm an amateur radio operator, and I have a whole lot of experience with the propagation of UHF. And I am here to tell you that the idea that a cellular provider should be able to provide universal indoor coverage is a non-starter. The amount of infrastructure that would be required for that is unreasonable.

It's disgusting that this offer only happens now that Verizon is carrying the iPhone 4.

Not true. They sent a round of free Microcell letters around last summer, before there was any serious talk about a Verizon iPhone.

Are they officially admitting their cell signal sucks and have been providing customers inadequate service for years?

I've been a customer of 3 of the 4 major providers, and they all suck, quite frankly.

Hmm.

There is one spot in my house, near the counter next to the kitchen where my iPhone 4 and previous iPhone 1 simply will NOT work. It's a 6'x6' complete black hole. I am going to look into this Microcell device.

Cool commercial too.

Android isn't going anywhere. It still thrives in Europe where the iPhone is available on virtually every carrier. Some people simply don't like the iPhone.

You are right about that!

The reason Android itself isn't going to go away is because most cell manufacturers don't have their own OS.

They just slap in Android and shove it out the door. It goes like this:

Manager: Quick! June is upon us yet again! Install the latest Google Android!

Tech: But sir! We'll be just like every other Android device on the market! How will we differentiate our product?

Manager: We will not. Alas... there is no time to write our own system. We must bow to the god Google and worship yet again.

Group Chant: Goo goo goo goo... we love yoo.

Google: Behold! It is I, the great and almighty Google! My loyal subject Samsung, what is it that ales you?

Manager: We need thy Android, almighty one!

Google: I have no Android to spare.

Manager: But master, we must! Or we shall surely perish by the sword of our enemies! For we were slothful and taken by surprise. We simply cannot compete without thy precious Android!

Outspoken Tech: We're so far behind at this point we have no choice....

Google: Very well. But hear this now, Samsung. You, as are all of my subjects, will be in debt to me. You will walk as one... to conquer my enemies.

Manager: Of course! We will obey! Take this offering of contractual agreements for thy Android!

Android eats offering: Nom Nom Nom Nom Nom!

And Google partook a portion thereof and tasted that it was good. And Googles' stock price rose. And Samsung fell deeper into contractual servitude.

By your comment above, I'm sure others agree with me that this phone is not for you. Actually, you should stick to a landline. You have no idea how to use a cell phone, probably never heard of Bluetooth headgear, don't have the need to look for information while on the phone, sometimes to assist someone who is lost or needs technical assistance over the phone. That's not being rude. And of course, nobody here is saying they are going to talk on the phone and browse the Internet while driving, so your comment is out of place.
Don't waste your time here either, go fishing instead.

Using a laptop while on the phone is rude too. At least that's how i see it. I get tired of talking on the phone and hearing clicking from my friend's keyboard. Then they would ask me to repeat what i said. When i am having a meaningful conversation with someone, i give them my attention. If i don't care about constant conversation and i don't mind looking up stuff, i'm usually on a skype call on my computer.

Also, i put the condition "to me" because i know i'm not everyone. I was discussing what i have every right to discuss on a message board. If everyone was in my exact situation, would anyone have anything to talk about on here? Probably not. The only generalization i made was that people on here complain too much, and here I am complaining about the people complaining. It's an endless loop and it's quite pitiful. But being sarcastic towards someone who's not complaining and actually trying to continue discussion is quite childish.

Again, the only thing i was discussing was the fact that i don't need data and voice at the same time. Your statements are out of place. If someone needed directions, they wouldn't call me, because i'm awful with conveying them. But that's just me! I'm not saying anything else, and you have no right to condemn me for my usage.

I've had my iPhone 4 for 5 months now and have ZERO dropped calls. The cell phone industry must have the most random customer experience in the world.

You could probably go out to a mall and within 5 minutes find 5 people that hate their service for each major provider in the country.

Sure they do. How people have you actually asked that to? It is generally understood verizon has better call quality.
