I went into the verizon store today to upgrade from my iPhone 4 and ran into some issues. I have unlimited data on my line with an upgrade available, as well as upgrades available on two other lines. I asked about all the ways of upgrading without losing unlimited on here and they said they couldn't do any of them. They offered me 6GB of data for the same price as unlimited. Do I need to order online or try a different store? I ended up just ordering the phone but it won't ship out for a month, is it too late to change my mind and keep my unlimited? I would rather just switch to 6GB than have to always buy phones for full price. I just don't want to change my data plan and then find out that it was possible to keep it by ordering online or at a different store.

So here is my question:

I have 5 lines on my account. We have the old nationwide talk/text plan.

1 - iPhone 5 - UDP
2 - iPhone 5 - UDP
3 - iPhone 4s - 2gb
4 - Basic Phone
5 - Basic Phone

We currently share 2000 minutes and have unlimited text. Our bill is $303/month. The only phone on contract is the 4s. Can I use the upgrades on the basic lines to get the 6's for the iPhone 5's AND trade in the 5's to basically cancel out the cost of going with the 16gb 6's? Or is the trade in only good for the lines which you are trading in?

Or should I entertain the idea of going to a more everything plan, 16gb data (which is "doubled" to 30 (more than enough)) and do the EDGE to lower my bill and get the $350 in trade in. Not really a huge fan of losing the UDP, but I don't really take advantage of it like a lot of people with it do.

I have the same thing you have except I only have 4 lines.

This is what I did
Line 1. UDP do not touch !

Line 2 TDP that doesn't have a upgrade available.

Line 3 basic line with upgrade

Line 4 basic line with upgrade.

I took the basic line upgrade and transferred to the TDP line bought iPhone 6 plus. Activated and swap sim to the number I wanted.

5 mins later in the SAME Apple Store on a separate purchase I took the other basic line upgrade and also gave it to the TDP line and got another 6 plus . Both of my basic lines contract date was extended but no data package was added to those lines. They are still basic 9.99 lines.

Now I have a new 6 plus on my unlimited plan and my wife also has one on her TDP.

I traded my iPhone 5 in right then and got a gift card to cover most of the phone to offset the cost. You can't explain to them what you are doing because guy I was working with was completely lost but he did it because that's what i wanted. He even asked the manager and he told him if the system will do it and that's what he wants then do it.

Good luck!

The chances are quite low (but not exactly zero).

Ok thanks a lot!

I already placed orders for 2 iPhone6's on EDGE for the 30GB More Everything Plan. They're kinda not sure about the BYOD discount for a 3rd line I'm planning on adding, any link that I can show them that it is still the case? I won't activate or add a 3rd line anyway until I receive the iPhone6's. Also, just noticed in the receipt they added Verizon 25GB Cloud for 2.99/mo, is that required for the EDGE plan? I don't need it and I'll have them remove it when I receive and activate the phones.

I was reading through the FAQ's on the VZW website and found this...

Verizon Edge
How can I get the discount on the monthly line access of The MORE Everything Plan?

Customers who participate in Verizon Edge may qualify for a discount on the monthly line access charge.

You’ll receive $10 off the monthly line access charge if you meet both of the following requirements:

You have a smartphone with Verizon Edge
Your data allowance is 250 MB, 500 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB, 3 GB, 4 GB, 6 GB or 8 GB

You’ll receive $25 off the monthly line access charge if you meet both of the following requirements:
You have a smartphone with Verizon Edge
Your data allowance is 10 GB or greater

Note: Existing and qualifying Edge customers on The MORE Everything Plan automatically receive the discounts.

If I’m no longer participating in the Verizon Edge program, do I still get the discount off my monthly line access?

No, only customers who are currently enrolled and making monthly payments toward their Verizon Edge agreement qualify for the $10 or $25 monthly discount.

What the heck?!?! So no BYOD discount then?

They don't list it on their website for whatever reason, but they have it nonetheless.

Went to VZW Community Forums and someone (I'm assuming a VZW rep) answered that discount can be added manually online once the device is added to account. Now, I just have to see if someone was able to do it and confirm that they can really add it in their account page.

People have talked about doing it in various threads. Either that or calling Verizon to do it.

Not correct. The current single line plan does not have an expiration date. The 2GB Loyalty Plan with a $10 / 1GB overage does have a 1 year expiration date, however.

The chat support online is outsourced so you sometimes get conflicting information from them.

Good info, thanks for clarifying.

To those that have asked about the month to month discount, yes, it's still available (just obviously not advertised). Simply call or go into a Verizon Store and ask them to add it. If they are unsure, just tell them it's a Feature / Promotion that can be added to the line.

Hello everyone, I just joined this forum, hope you can help me.

A friend of mine bought yesterday 3 iPhone 6 in Miami from a re-seller on craigslist, since we couldn't find any unlocked units at the Apple Stores in Miami, we went for the Verizon gold 64 Gb version since it was the only color the re-seller had, anyway, he's coming back tomorrow to South America and we were wondering if it's going to work with the carriers down here in our country. The 3 iPhone came with a verizon sim card, and we paid 850$ each for the 64 gb "unlocked version"... so will it work worldwide?

thanks in advance

Added another iPhone 6 last night, bought at Best Buy on the Edge plan. The final piece of the puzzle. :)

However, the extra 1GB data/month promotion isn't showing up on My Verizon for the new phone. It only reflects the two 1GB promotions from the other two phones (6 on Edge, 5S on BYOD). Is that deal still current?

Choosing a plan?

Long time lurker - Thanks for all the info and sorry for the long-ish post.

My wife, son, and I are current VZW customers. I have my own account and the wife and son share an account. The wife and I are both upgrade eligible and the son has had his 5S for 10 months. We use at most about 8GB of data per month. We also both get a small discount because of our employer.

The wife and I both plan on getting the 6+ with 64GB. We're not in a huge rush and can wait a bit to get the phones. We also tend to keep our phones for a long time (both using early 4S models).

The VZW site isn't much help when I try to price our options. From what I can see we have a few:

1) Buy the two phones outright for $1700 and get a data plan. I'm not sure how the son's phone would fit in with this approach. I also don't know if I'd be better off buying it from our local Apple Store (can they do employer discounts with VZW?).

2) Get the Edge plan, spread the cost of the phones out over 20 months, and share the data. It looks like there's a discount for getting a data plan of 10GB or more with Edge but the VZW site won't let me set it up with multiple phones. Do we own the phones outright after 20 months? Does the data plan cost go up after 20 months?

3) Get the More Everything plan and pay $800 up front for the two new phones. With the higher monthly data costs I'm not sure how this would work out if we keep our phones for an extended period of time (likely).

4) Blow up the model and go with AT&T. I really don't know much about that one but I'm reading that it may be cheaper, however, there's the son's remaining contract (~14 months) to consider.

Ideas?

It ended 9/30

I wonder why they are hiding it. It's a basic built-in feature of AT&T's plans while for Verizon it seems like it's some promotional feature that is not listed and is there for limited time too (at least I heard it might be a limited time thing, which would be quite bad if that's the case).

Switched our family from ATT to Verizon and so far are very pleased. A somewhat random question, to add access for a standard flip phone to our MORE plan shows to be $40.00. Is there any kind of BYOD discount for standard phones as seen with the smart phones?

Basic phone access is $30. It's cheaper to BYOD smartphone if you're on the 10GB or higher plan ($15 access fee). If you're less than 10GB, $30 access fee for a smartphone.

It is considered a limited time thing, but there's no expiration date.

Who knows, verizon seems to be slacking behind ATT with promos and stuff like that.

So here's my question. I transferred an upgrade from one of my basic lines to the tiered data plan. Picked up an iPhone 6. Planning to pop in the sim from one of my UDP lines to have the UDP on my iPhone 6. I still have another upgrade on a basic line. And want to upgrade my remaining 5 UDP to a 6. Can I do another transfer to the TDP line that I'm currently waiting for the 6 to ship to me?

What do you think of their pre paid plans. I got a verizon iPhone on cricket (35$) but if I could get better lte coverage for 10 dollars more I'm considering it.

Two Verizon Edge questions

I have been answering various Verizon questions that are strewn across this forum, so I thought I would make a thread for someone to ask a question and I'll answer it, just to help out the community. Obviously I will not disclose my position, but I am capable of providing fact driven answers to most questions! Also, if you have any Sprint related questions, I can help out as well.

Let's get started!

Hi!

Thanks for offering to help, and apologies if these questions have been answered before. Anyway, I am a current VZW customer and I have a Dec 4th 2014 upgrade date (and contract end date), and I've talked to three different Verizon reps about the terms of the Edge program, and all three have given me very different answers. So I know at least two of them and possibly all three of them were wrong answers.

The first (online) rep said that I'd have to wait until Dec 4th to upgrade to the iPhone 6 regardless of Edge or no Edge. Period. End of story. But the VZW web site gives me the option to upgrade with Edge now, so I know that answer must be wrong.

The second (online) rep told me that I could upgrade now, but that I'd have to trade in my current iPhone 5 as part of the deal. She also told me that I'd have to return my current iPhone even after Dec 4th. So regardless of when I switch to Edge, I have to return my current device. I'm pretty sure that's wrong, because I if I upgrade to a new 2-year contract (on or after Dec 4th), I get a new (subsidized) phone AND get to keep my current phone. Why would switching to Edge after Dec 4th alter the end of my old 2-year contract force me to return a phone that I've paid off?

The third (in store) rep told me something similar to the second rep, but he also said that Edge is like leasing the phone, and so even if I pay all 20 installment the new iPhone, it has to be returned to VZW at the end of 20 months. This sounds bogus to me as well. Nowhere on the Edge web pages does it say that Edge is a lease. According to what I see there, the only time you have to turn in your old phone is if you "Edge Up" early and still owe money on your old phone.

So what I'd really like to get a straight answer on is:
(1) Do I have to return my current iPhone 5 to VZW if I switch to Edge, either now or after my Dec 4th upgrade date?
(2) If I pay all 20 payments on my Edge plan, do I own the phone or does it need to be returned to VZW?

Thanks for the help!

If you do Edge before you are officially eligible to upgrade that's generally referred to as Early Edge and one of the requirements for that is to trade-in your phone (it can actually be any phone that is currently activated on your line--meaning you can activate some old phone when you are processing the whole Early Edge deal).

If you do Edge after you are eligible to upgrade then you certainly don't need to turn your phone in as it's just like any other upgrade.

Once you are on Edge, the only time you would need to trade-in your phone is if you want to upgrade using Edge again but you haven't paid off your current phone (and don't want to pay it off). If you paid your phone off, then of course it's yours and doesn't need to be traded in (just like if you just bought it for full price all at once).

Looking for some advice here. I would like a Verizon plan that is low cost - $50 or less – and don’t need a huge data allowance.

I purchased a Verizon iPhone 6 Plus from the Apple Store outright (unlocked). I have been using it on the T-Mobile pre-paid plan with 100 min and 5GB of data for $30/month. My plan all along was to switch to Verizon at some point. After deciding to do just that I went into a Verizon Store, but walked out still on T-Mobile. I was open to either:
The pre-paid plan with unlimited call/text and 500MB of data (with the 500 MB bonus for setting up auto pay)
Or
The “loyalty” plan that was Unlimited call/text with 1GB of data for $50
After lots of discussion I was unable to get either of these. The pre-paid plan is not offered for the iPhone 6 (or even iPhone 5S apparently)?? The loyalty plan did not show in their system at all.
Any suggestions?
