Is this speed difference true? I didn't realize verizon was only 1mb speed?
These numbers speak otherwise http://www.pcworld.com/zoom?id=167391&page=1&zoomIdx=1

Otherwise, if AT&T is 7mb I have yet to see it reliably...

The CEO of Verizon stated at CES yesterday that their CDMA is around 1mb. AT&T says that they are now at 7mb (HSPA+). Those are my sources. Of course, proximity to cell towers is the key.

Feb 3rd, a reporter approaches a customer in line at Verizon and asks, “Why are you here? Excited about the new Verizon iPhone?”

The potential customer responds, “I can’t wait to get my new Verizon iPhone and all of the new features such as….

-Slower speed (1mb versus 7mb)
-Inability to surf and talk at the same time (no concurrent voice and data)
-Loss of all my free Wifi Hotspots
-Loss of global coverage….I need to buy a second mobile phone for my next trip
-Higher bills and those famous Verizon nickel and dime charges
-Egotistical customer service

…I can’t wait!”

Verizon is laughing all the way to the bank.

Don't forget to add:

-I can't do anything else on the phone that requires data while on a call?

Wait, what? You mean all the stuff that's useful during a call no longer works: e.g., Maps, Safari, Mail, etc.

This is all shaping up to mean that we're not going to see much of a change to the iPhone until June 2012, when the LTE version, capable of working on either network, is released.

There's no way we're going to see the iPhone come to Verizon, then only 4 months later a whole new model on AT&T (or both). I predict at most an incremental processor upgrade on the Verizon version, which will land on the GSM versions later this spring / summer, perhaps with a bump in the theoretical data speed. Nothing more.

I don't understand this. They could offer a new one in 4 months. Technology evolves.everyone understands this. Plus 2 releases(one for each network) would allow then the chance to almost stay up with demand and not have backorders.

Verizon iPhone why not Ipad 2

Why would Apple make a big deal for selling Verizon Iphone when most of the people already have an Iphone, I don't see the big deal, The Ipad 2 would make more sence.

Easily fixable by utilizing SVDO. It's been tested, hardware makers just need to use it...

Apple releases a CDMA iPhone on the edge or as Verizon is rolling out LTE. It so seems Apple but I'm sure you are going to have people complaining right away that there's no LTE support and it will not likely support CDMA and GSM. So the 2 people that travel outside the US will be hurt and the few needing bleeding edge LTE will complain as well.

It's also starting to be widely reported that Verizon has a mandatory training for "pre-orders of an iconic device" scheduled from late January to February 4th.

It's also being reported that Verizon is also blacking out vacation days in that time frame.

Congruence. It's a beautiful thing.

I think Verizon has more or as many subscribers as AT&T in the US. It's a no-brainer. They want more penetration. It's a shame it's taken so long.

And think how quickly Android will dive when this happens.

I can see it now....my iPhone works here...does your iPhone? Hehehe..rip on AT&T.

Speaking as someone that has had every Iphone on Launch day...

-Slower speed (1mb versus 7mb) - How do you get those stats? Comparing a POS Android device?

-Inability to surf and talk at the same time (no concurrent voice and data) - When I'm talking on the phone, I talk on the phone, not surf the web... "OMG, I cant watch porn while I'm talking to my wife!" Get real...

-Loss of all my free Wifi Hotspots - Seriously? That's why I have unlimited data, so I dont have to search for Hotspots.

-Loss of global coverage….I need to buy a second mobile phone for my next trip - If you travel globally, you can afford a 2nd phone.

-Higher bills and those famous Verizon nickel and dime charges - Higher bills? I'm paying 30$ for two lines WITH Unlimited data...

-Egotistical customer service - That's funny, every one here in Denver is dropping the iPhone to go to Verizon and deal with the ****** android devices.

…I can’t wait! - NEITHER CAN I!

Dropped o5f ATT's network in August because I cant deal with their crap and ****** service anymore. Joined Verizon again since I left them in '05, and I can actually complete my phone calls once again! My bill's cheaper, I was able to get my lady Unlimited data, but this POS Droid X is driving me up the wall...I HOPE THIS RUMOR IS NOT A RUMOR!

I predict announcement during aapl quarterly earnings confeence call Jan 18
Just a wild guess

So the 2 people that travel outside the US will be hurt and the few needing bleeding edge LTE will complain as well.

What? Where did you get those stats? Millions travel across the borders and overseas each year. This is where CDMA is at a loss....need to buy a second phone.

Don't have any problems with AT&T where I live - but had troubles in bigger cities. I really hope the Verizon phone comes soon for two reasons:

(1) I'm sick of the rumors
(2) If enough people leave AT&T and switch to Verizon, that will improve the AT&T network a lot

But than - the 'Verizon iPhone comes soon' rumors will be replaced by 'Verizon network stinks' - so might not help for (1)

3 days??? I think that would pretty much settle it as NOT being the Verizon iPhone. I don't see any possibility that it would calm down after 3 days... How long do they freeze it for AT&T iPhone releases?

Wow...that's pretty good. And when you compare other products do you always ignore the benefits and pick the worst choice?

Hearsay, and the possibly of misdirected assumptions

I don't want to burst the bubble, but you are giving too much leverage into the Verizon iPhone. There is an equal, if not more likely, chance that the pending launch will be the iPad 2. The evidence is that Apple typically refreshes at a one year frequency with other iOS devices. Any anecdotal evidence of Verizon mimicking Apple in blackout dates can equally be due to Verizon heavily co-promoting the iPad 2 with their WiFi hotspot device that taps into their new LTE service, which they are pushing as an alternative to AT&T tied service for the iPad 3G.

I'm not saying that this is not the Verizon iPhone. I am just saying that it is more likely to be the iPad 2.

So what do they do now on Verizon?

I know my company purchased the World Blackberry so they could connect on the GSM overseas. My point.

So you are already complaining it's not a dual chip.

It has already begun.

I would in general agree ... but you won't believe how often my wife calls me on my cell phone and asks me 'can you please lookup X' - unfortunately she still refuses to get a smart phone. At least I can look up the traffic maps or whatever she needs without kicking her out of the call. Yes the better solution would be to force a smart phone on her - but she just hates those.

Interesting. A quick google found this:
http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2861/64/

From the article:
This device enhancement, which enables these concurrent voice and data services, is independent of the air link standard and infrastructure.

Does that mean the implementation is up to handset makers? If so, could Apple engineer the iPhone for VZW to use SVDO? Sounds like the kind of "imperfection" that Steve would want exorcised from any vzw iPhone.

Honestly, why do you care if the iPhone is offered on Verizon? You clearly don't like their service, but you don't have to switch. I just don't understand posts like this.

There are millions of satisfied smart phone customers on Verizon right now.

(FWIW, my average speed with AT&T is 800 kbps)

Pretty much ;)

As I said, it's been tested. It would be an nice differentiator for a VZW iPhone. The first CDMA device to to simultaneous voice/data.
