If the same device shows the same symptoms on different networks, it seems like it would be a safe assumption that it is the device, and not the network.

Yet in Europe, iphone is not plagued with the reception problems it has in the USA.

There is a reason people called Cingular "Suckular"...

I don't want to burst the bubble, but you are giving too much leverage into the Verizon iPhone. There is an equal, if not more likely, chance that the pending launch will be the iPad 2. The evidence is that Apple typically refreshes at a one year frequency with other iOS devices. Any anecdotal evidence of Verizon mimicking Apple in blackout dates can equally be due to Verizon heavily co-promoting the iPad 2 with their WiFi hotspot device that taps into their new LTE service, which they are pushing as an alternative to AT&T tied service for the iPad 3G.

I'm not saying that this is not the Verizon iPhone. I am just saying that it is more likely to be the iPad 2.

I agree and said the same earlier in the thread. Just to add though, the 3G iPad 2 could also potentially be CDMA & Verizon compatible which would attest for the rumors of Verizon blackout dates, if they are indeed true.

And also, I wouldn't be surprised if the *iPad 2* came to Verizon with a built-in CDMA modem before the iPhone does. Since Verizon's already selling iPads, it wouldn't be much of a big deal for Apple to make a CDMA version (or CDMA and GSM combined) for the iPad 2 that Verizon could sell for data only. And possibly the Verizon iPhone not until June/July?

Feb 3rd, a reporter approaches a customer in line at Verizon and asks, “Why are you here? Excited about the new Verizon iPhone?”

The potential customer responds, “I can’t wait to get my new Verizon iPhone and all of the new features such as….

-Slower speed (1mb versus 7mb)
-Inability to surf and talk at the same time (no concurrent voice and data)
-Loss of all my free Wifi Hotspots
-Loss of global coverage….I need to buy a second mobile phone for my next trip
-Higher bills and those famous Verizon nickel and dime charges
-Egotistical customer service

…I can’t wait!”

Verizon is laughing all the way to the bank.

This is purely uneducated blabbering.

Honestly, why do you care if the iPhone is offered on Verizon? You clearly don't like their service, but you don't have to switch. I just don't understand posts like this.

There are millions of satisfied smart phone customers on Verizon right now.

(FWIW, my average speed with AT&T is 800 kbps)

Some people just have to hate something, it makes them feel better. Or to put things/people down so they feel better.

I hope verizon gets the phone, I have no att coverage at home or work, only part of the drive in between. I don't hate att for it, I just hope for another carrier.

If this new phone has updated hardware to deal with the reception issue (as the leaked pics point out), when will this new phone be available in the UK?

Lets hope the verizon iphone is launched on that date so all this rumors stop, i'm tired of people worrying about this rather than other stuff that are a bit more important for me.

Although I hope all those who want the iPhone on verizon get what they want, they deserve it.

Don't have any problems with AT&T where I live - but had troubles in bigger cities. I really hope the Verizon phone comes soon for two reasons:

(1) I'm sick of the rumors

But than - the 'Verizon iPhone comes soon' rumors will be replaced by 'Verizon network stinks' - so might not help for (1)

IMO, these rumors won't stop until one of two conditions is met:
1. The iPhone actually comes to Verizon
2. Verizon gets out of the phone service industry (goes bankrupt, is bought by someone else, etc.)

In either case, expect to see "iPhone on (different carrier) soon!" rumors

Of course none of that matters if you can't connect or keep having dropped calls.

Agreed. I've heard a lot of people say they'd give up a lot of AT&T's features & go to a Verizon iPhone since they will (or at least hope to) get better service on Verizon.

There is no Verizon iPhone.

I spoke to one of my sources, and she denies any Verizon iPhone in the works :)

Simple as that, oh, and btw, you all seem to forget when Apple announces/releases a new iPhone...

If this new phone has updated hardware to deal with the reception issue (as the leaked pics point out), when will this new phone be available in the UK?

i'm guessing this will be an updated iphone with a dual CDMA/GSM chip that will be released everywhere (to all existing GSM carriers and the new CDMA carriers). I can't see Apple making a different phone just for one carrier since that may cause a lot of confusion especially with international roaming (CDMA customers might complain that their friends GSM iPhone can roam but their CDMA iPhone can't).

Speaking as someone that has had every Iphone on Launch day...

-Slower speed (1mb versus 7mb) - How do you get those stats? Comparing a POS Android device?

-Inability to surf and talk at the same time (no concurrent voice and data) - When I'm talking on the phone, I talk on the phone, not surf the web... "OMG, I cant watch porn while I'm talking to my wife!" Get real...

-Loss of all my free Wifi Hotspots - Seriously? That's why I have unlimited data, so I dont have to search for Hotspots.

-Loss of global coverage….I need to buy a second mobile phone for my next trip - If you travel globally, you can afford a 2nd phone.

-Higher bills and those famous Verizon nickel and dime charges - Higher bills? I'm paying 30$ for two lines WITH Unlimited data...

-Egotistical customer service - That's funny, every one here in Denver is dropping the iPhone to go to Verizon and deal with the ****** android devices.

…I can’t wait! - NEITHER CAN I!

Dropped o5f ATT's network in August because I cant deal with their crap and ****** service anymore. Joined Verizon again since I left them in '05, and I can actually complete my phone calls once again! My bill's cheaper, I was able to get my lady Unlimited data, but this POS Droid X is driving me up the wall...I HOPE THIS RUMOR IS NOT A RUMOR!

-Slower speeds - its not a myth, no comparing to a 'POS Android device' ... aside from what the OP already mentioned earlier (the VZW CEO himself said at CES yesterday they get around 1mbps) its also pretty widely documented that AT&T, while spottier and less reliable, is significantly faster when it does work.

- Inability to talk an surf - wow way to be lame and assume the only function for this feature is to watch porn while talking. NO. In fact this is my most used feature of the iPhone. I contently need maps or email while I'm also on the phone. Nevermind all the third party apps that I could be using, like task managers, organizers, movie time lookups etc that would require a net connection ... even sometimes while i'm on a call.

- Loss of Wifi Hotspots - yeah i get it, you have unlimited Data. Well what if you happen to be in an area with poor signal? What if you happen to want to facetime? What if you want to update or download a larger app while not at home? What if you don't want to run your battery dry as quickly while surfing? There are several reasons why having those hotspots available could trump the notion of you having unlimited 3G data.... these are just a few.

- Loss of global phone - how pretentious of you. Who's to say that everyone traveling overses is buying their own plane ticket? And even still, i've made several trips overseas, (some of which I did pay) where its taken a good chunk of my spendable income to get over there. The last thing i want to do is buy another phone. At least with my AT&T phone I can buy the int'l plan OR unlock it myself and pop in a new sim. You seem to be pretty narrow minded about a lot of things.

-Higher bills - while i don't disagree with you there, i think the general understanding is that any iPhone on VZW will either be the same, or slightly higher cost. Its simply a matter of comparing Verizons prices right now.

- Egotistical customer service - Nice anecdote that everyone you know in Denver is dropping and going to VZW. Your experiences are in no way congruent, or even conclusive with what everyone who's NOT in Denver is experiencing... and you have know way to really know. So how about we stop spouting off personal observations and passing them off as overarching trends, K? My experiences with people whom I know has been the exact opposite of yours... so who's right? me or you?

The difference between our arguments is that I don't pretend to assume that because i've observed one thing, its applicable to everyone, everywhere. You do. That's where you fault my friend.

And lack of Rollover minutes.

I agree with others-

-I'll believe it when Steve announces it.

Though I can't help but imagine a scenario where Steve walks out on stage, stands for a few moments, then goes: "...Finally." (followed by audience cheering)

the example that always sticks with me is texts - i forget which carrier first raised the price of individual text messages, but within days all the major carriers matched the increase. here, from sen. kolh's letter to the carriers:

everyone has texting plans, even sprint will sell you a monthly bill with unlimited texting included

and the monthly price includes a phone subsidy. this is why sprint and t-mo usually carry the crappy tier B and C phones. they cost less. people want the top tier iphone and andriod phones and are willing to pay for it

www.bgr.com

they did an informal survey last year and VZW averaged 800kbps or so. AT&T twice that

its also pretty widely documented that AT&T, while spottier and less reliable, is significantly faster when it does work.

Enough said

I'm not arguing that this isn't a useful feature, but in my entire time of using the Droid X (6 months), I've only felt the need for it once.

Um seriously, wifi hotspots? We are talking about mobile networks here. At the end of the day it doesn't make up for a lackluster network. It's kind of like a car dealership selling you a car with a dysfunctional engine but throwing in a top of the line stereo to appease you. As for "running the battery dry," using Wifi takes more battery than 3G.

- Loss of global phone - how pretentious of you. Who's to say that everyone traveling overses is buying their own plane ticket? For better or for worse, most Americans don't leave the US on a regular basis. Beyond that, I want a phone/service provider that works well in America, not a phone that works well if I ever happen to visit Tanzania. Again, reference my car analogy above.

I agree, the comments about who needs voice and data have not used an iPhone for work, in my opinion. Imagine being on the phone with Microsoft tech support because a server is down for 3 hours and not being able to do anything else while on the call.

Currently I can update tickets, respond to email, research the issue, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc (endless etc here)

And there are countless casual uses as well. A very huge feature in my books.

Totally agree, switching to Verizon would be a step backwards... without multitasking while on a call
