Ok, why a Verizon iPhone MAKES since.

1. Apple vs. Google:

Android is gaining market share every day, as it seems to be on many networks and many phones. Apple has Google rivalry everyone knows it, Apple would love to shut them down.

2. More Sales:

Survey's state that 17% of VZW customers are WAITING on an iPhone. Ok add lets say 5% of customers switching back to VZW from ATT and another 2% of people who walk in a VZW store and say "Pretty!" Yes the last two figures are mere estimates. That comes to 24% of VZW. Ok VZW has around 70 million customers, so thats 16.8 million iPhones! Wow, I think Apple would like that.

Why a VZW iPhone doesn't make since, especially in January.

1. Out of the product cycle

2. Apple may not want to redesign for CDMA only, but could possibly make a hybrid type phone.

Either way this thread is pointless, its not here yet and won't be here any time soon. I agree all carrier sucks maybe Obama can help us there. Anyways I'm glad that NYC (4 of 300 Million) is getting improved networks, the rest of the country is waiting.

ur post doesnt make SINCE.

I'm honestly tired about hearing the words Verizon and iPhone in one sentence. It's like iPhone Flash (Adobe)... it will never happen :p

Verizon can't come soon enough for many of us in rural US.

Here in AZ AT&T = Suck x100. I live in Scottsdale, and once I leave my home where I had to install a Microcell, I have ZERO coverage for 9 miles. My work BB on Verizon, full 1XEV the whole way. Same holds true for most areas outside of metro Phoenix and Tucson. Verizon = coverage, at least HERE.

My wife and I both LOVE our 3G's, but we just can't continue to justify $200/month for a unreliable and/or non-existent network. Believe it or not, I'm dusting off the old RAZR and going month to month with VZ when our contract is up in August. No Android for me.

ok well 1st of all, its spelled "sense"

2nd of all, how would a verizon iphone in january be out of the product cycle?

3rd of all you do know that all it takes to make the iphone cdma is by replacing a chip right? cdma iphones are already in asia cell phone networks.

Ok sorry for my misspelling. Out of the product cycle. Lets see Apple Inc. releases a new iPhone every year since 2007. Apple would release a phone in January only to update it June? That doesn't make sense. That is out of the product cycle. As well, I'm not an engineer, but I imagine its a bit more than just replacing the chip. I mean you just don't replace the chip. Read through the previous posts and learn a little bit. Also show me a CDMA iPhone.

I'll call BS on that.
I live in NE Phoenix (Kierland area) and travel through Scottsdale all the time.
Minus the occasional weak spot (1 bar), I've always had great coverage.
I'm heading to Show Low this weekend and AT&T has good coverage there too.

The main reason why they might consider separating the iPhone releases is production capacity. Apple can't even keep up with demand of the iPhone 4 in a handful of countries; they sold every single one of the 1.7 million iPhone 4s that they built in a few days and there are still pre-orders to be shipped, people standing in line, people who aren't on any priority lists twiddling their thumbs, etc.

Apple is already trying to mitigate the supply constraints by staggering the release to international markets.

Availability of the new Retina display part seems to be the constricting factor. If Apple behaves as they have done in the past, a large number of these displays will be used in a refreshed iPod touch in September. Again, more demand for a hard-to-get part. My guess is that iPhone 4 shortages will continue -- particularly in some smaller markets -- for the next six months.

By staggering GSM and CDMA handset releases, Apple has a more manageable ability to fulfill customer demand.

That said, I still think a CDMA iPhone is a crock. I won't believe it until Apple announces it.

wtf is the point of another non 4g provider? Until then I will be keeping my mobile hotspot and forgetting At&T data plan or Verizon

I'm sick of hearing iPhone coming to X carrier.

How many times have these claims come up, and yet, still nothing.

Stop reporting these claims as "news" since all they are are false rumours.

Where I live, Minneapolis, MN, I have great coverage with AT&T. So, I am sick of this rumor. It's as though Verizon is some great company that will fulfill all of your needs. In the past, they have crippled well-speced phones. We'll see what restrictions they'll put on the iPhone and plan (i.e., when it ever does go to Verizon)

Also, I am sick of the iPhone getting criticized because it's not on Verizon. The good news is that when this happens, AT&T's network will benefit. Also, Verizon will be trashed because it's not as great as people claim.

Och, so the reason for raised early-termination fee (i guessed at that time) and early upgrades. But everyone will benefit from anyway, ATT subscribers too. Service prices must fall... ATT?

9 miles?
I'll call BS on that.

Take Dynamite road east. Once you pass Alma School say buh-bye to AT&T. Nothing till you get close to Fountain Hills, and it is not like that area is that sparsely populated either.

Great it works in Showlow, question is, how well does it work between here and there, especially when you NEED your phone to MAKE A CALL. I can't tell you the times traveling in this state that I've been thankful I have my work VZ phone with me, because otherwise I would have had no service from AT&T.

Revenue.

Most people (well, at least in America) don't live in a 4G-supported cellular market. Apple would sell a handset that is usable by the mass market. They'll add LTE when there is what they decide to be a critical mass of LTE markets, but it doesn't look like it will be anytime in 2010 or even 2011.

Seriously?

I'm so tired of these rumors.

1. They are in a legally binding CONTRACT until 2012 with AT&T. So unless AT&T decides to nullify said agreement, which WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY? Apple isn't getting out of this contract.

2. The iPhone on Verizon's current CDMA network would be terrible. You cannot download + be on the phone simultaneously. Apple would NEVER gimp their device like that. Have you ever seen any of their ads? It would invalidate them all.

Ahh... you're talking about Rio Verde... that's in a bowl next to the Gila Indian reservation and the Tonto National forest.
Getting a tower permit up there requires an act of god.
My friend who works as a T-Mobile tower manager screams about Rio Verde all the time.
Lot's of complaints, but that's federal land.

As for the trip up to Show Low, I get a good signal all the way up the 87.
Get's a little dicey between Star Valley and Christopher Creek... too many mountains, but it clears up nicely the rest of the way up.

I totally agree but this thread has been overtaken with Verizon fan boys and anything that sounds logical will be thrown to the wind. Aparently people don't think logically anymore when it comes to this.

I will be laughing when people are whining and complaining in Jan when there is no new iPhone announced for verizon.

Well, I'll be switching to Verizon whenever they finally get the iPhone. Generally speaking, the primary impediment to iPhones becoming as common as iPods is the carriers, and that will change sooner or later. Let's hope it's next year.

AFAIK, LTE does not support data + voice running simultaneously. Only faster data speeds.

If anyone can prove otherwise, please post.

If you can't, now is the time to quit dreaming of iPhone on Verizon.

The only way iPhone came to Bell and Telus (our CDMA networks) in Canada is because they got chunks of the GSM spectrum and built their own GSM networks.

EDIT: AND, to top that off, Apple would need to engineer/produce an entire new CDMA device.
