I don't think the iPhone is going to Verizon, But i do hope Apple makes the 5th-Gen iPhone better than iPhone 4 (witch i skipped), Or i'm going to the android side.

Surprise Surprise. Seriously, who is really surprised by any of this?

2011:

iPhone 4g
iPad 2g
and the usual updates at the usual times of year.

:-/

Have you even used a Verizon Android phone?!?! You're clueless. They no longer treat the smartphones like that.

And you can't blame the way advertising is done on Verizon, this is how those manufacturers and almost every other manufacturer works. They give the retailers a certain amount of advertising funds to create their own ads. This is very common in the advertising world. Apple is unique in this case and I don't see any reason why Verizon wouldn't be fine with that. It's not Verizon trying to control the advertising, it's just how the industry works in general. You really don't know what you are talking about.

Edit: And I think Verizon would give in on the one area they are most persistent about....the logo. If the rest of the world sells the phone with no logo, Verizon will realize they will need to do the same.
*WHOOSH*
The main thrust of my post was about the advertisement. Are you seriously that clueless? You basically confirmed everything I said but you insist on spinning it in a pro-Verizon slant. V-Cast store is coming to the android phones on Verizon. They might keep the google android store but it will be relegated to another screen by default. Android is "OPEN" for carriers to customize and screw up. Most "NEW" android phones cannot be "ROOTED" when sold through Verizon.

The openness of android has nothing to do with the end user unless if you "ROOT" the phone.

I laugh at you Americans who are stuck with what we had a few years ago when Bell and Telus were still on CDMA exclusively and the only carriers for the iPhone were Fido (owned by Rogers) and Rogers. What is really sad though is that so many of you don't realize how bad you have it. Your wireless internet is slower and you have no direct competition.

WHOOSH yourself. I addressed the advertising angle, but apparently I have more of a clue how that industry works than you do. You are obviously the clueless one that knows nothing about co-op advertising programs. This is NOT a indication of Verizon control. This is just status-quo for the manufacturers co-op advertising programs. IT PROVES NOTHING.

And I'm really not sure how the presence of a V-Cast store really causes any issues. And the icon being on a back page? So? I can move and hide the icons in whatever way I like...you really have no valid arguements.

And not sure how rooting has any relation to the iPhone. Apple already trys to prevent jailbreaking with every software release. blah blah blah....pointless babble from you again....

OK...you...Canadian...pwhahahaha...you are so superior. But yeah...I guess all my questions have just been answered. You truly are speaking of something you know nothing about.

From my perspective, the 4th generation showed the most improvement of any. I get far better signal everywhere I go. I also get much better battery life. The new camera is fantastic and over all performance is much better.

If the 5 has have the gain of the 4 it will be fantastic.

Is it any wonder that AT&T gave "generous" subsidized prices on iPhone 4 this year? They know that their time is up and want to keep more contracts signed.

Good thing I skipped iPhone 4. Can't wait for iPhone 5!

Yeah, gotta go with people this time. They have guessed a few times and EVENTUALLY,they will guess right.

Mistake #1.

This dismisses the entire post.

Next.
I have to resort to laughing when other people completely ignore the reality of how products are advertised but you go ahead and bury your head in the sand pal. It still does not change reality.

Also, try not being so damn sensitive. It's not like I attacked you or anyone else personally.
I've seen plenty of jokes about Canadians and the typical "Canuckistan" rhetoric. Guess how Canadians handle it? We laugh about it. Take a chill pill and maybe Americans would be seen in a better light by "damn foreigners" like me. You are only re-enforcing the negative stereotypes with your indignation.

You also ignored the point I was making is that American consumers complain about their situation but do absolutely nothing about it. You have more power than you realize. Write the bloody FCC and complain instead of complaining about it here. I wrote Apple and the CRTC about unlocking and I'm sure a bunch of other people did too. Guess what? We now have unlocked phones for sale in Canada directly from Apple.

One thing that will not give you change is hoping for the technological division to continue (CDMA vs GSM) by lobbying for a CDMA iPhone. Think about the big picture and the long term instead of the short term.

I'm sure pressure from consumers played a part in Telus and Bell going to HSPA+ early instead of waiting for LTE. We complained to the companies, the media and the government demanding direct competition as consumers and eventually the CDMA carriers listened and decided to take on the Rogers monopoly head on.

Who uses CDMA? I thought everyone had adapted to the GSM system with (Micro) SIM cards by now.

'round these parts, I only know of one handset manufacturer that has wholeheartedly joined the Micro SIM bandwagon. And it still sells one model which uses the older Mini SIMs.

Who uses CDMA? Roughly 48% of all Americans with cell phones. (Almost certainly somewhat more than that, because the numbers for subscribers on networks other than the big 4 are all lumped together, so it's difficult to determine which are on GSM and which are on CDMA.)

Apple working on a 5th gen iPhone? No way! I thought they'd skip a year or two...

Well, the report noted that the fifth gen would have a new form factor, which hasn't always been the case. The 3G to 3GS hardly changed at all; heck, even the first gen was pretty similar. So it's more than just a next gen, which is a given.

Over a half billion subscribers use CDMA2000 worldwide.

Re: branding. I used to think that Verizon would simply include a branded sticker or case that the customer could add.

Now I think instead that a Verizon / CDMA phone would be differentiated by something noticeable, like a special color combination or body shape.

That would allow it to stand out without needing a Verizon logo, and Apple could easily justify doing this for a special CDMA or LTE or world model.

They could make it white :D

Why aren't more people focusing on this point?

What is really different about this round is the moves AT&T made to secure 2-year contracts with all thier iphone users when the iPhone 4 was released.

This and this ALONE IMO proves without a doubt that you will see a non-ATT iPhone within the next 6-9 months.

ATT offered accelerated subsidized iphones for everyone with increased fees for early termination.

I mean to me it's right there screaming at you. If there wasn't going to be a non-ATT iPhone, exactly what motivation is there for ATT to forfeit that revenue?

there would be no reason.
There will be another carrier but it could be t-mobile or sprint.
The fact that apple needs to expand in this country is one we can all agree on with who is just the question. Android sucks but when it is the only ballgame offered it kicks butt compared to blackberry. I myself have a droid because ATT has searching for service at many locations i go to. I am told by ATT that this will be fixed by the end of the year with there massive 3g push they are underway with right now.

Question?
Do you really want an iphone that can only surf the web at a top speed of 1.5 megabits or an iphone that can surf at 7 megabits.
I know which i would pick if the cancer would just make it happen cough ATT cough. Verizon has a poor network for data always have always will. They are the voice guys I never use minutes any more skype fring etc have taken there place data is the new ball game and ATT is going to be sitting pretty when that day shows up. LTE is for the dogs there is no voice component and it does not stack near as neatly with CDMA as it does with GSM.

No way, apple doesn't work on the next generation model after they release the current version! That's just crazy talk.

I said a non-ATT iphone, not specifically Verizon.

What I am saying is that we are going to see that iPhone well before those 2-year deals ATT hooked people on for the iPhone 4 expire.

Otherwise it simply made BAD business sense to expedite the upgrades for people with the 3G/3GS. All that did was give money away.

How many years have these stories been posted? I'm not believing a thing until Apple makes an announcement. Besides, unless Verizon has some killer deals, I'll probably just stick with AT&T anyway.

Looks like it's not gonna happen, folks. Just read this article with the heading below:

Amid iPhone-to-Verizon rumors, Apple, Verizon spar over video, music, and retail sales
Source: http://venturebeat.com/2010/10/07/verizon-apple-fight-vcast-retail/

That article makes no sense at all, since the iPhone is already available at places like Best Buy.

"Apple and Verizon also argued over whether to allow the phones to be sold by Verizon’s retail partners, like Best Buy..."

Looks to me like a junior reporter saw discussions about why Verizon said no the first time, and got really confused.

Verizon Stinks!

Verizon is over-rated, they want premium prices for their old CDMA technology, plus their data network is slow, i would never buy a smartphone from Verizon, unless their network was as fast as ATT's and you could make phone calls simultaneously while surfing the web without Wi-Fi.

Plus, i just think ATT is willing to let Apple do their thing with the phone and all ATT has to worry about is improving their network and making it work better and better, so to me its a win-win for Apple. Verizon wants too much control over the phones.
