I hope this is true (5th generation iPhone havibg a different form factor that is) as I've held off buying the iPhone 4 as I hate the look of it.

You apparently haven't tried the new interchangeable case feature. Like magic, you slide the case on the iPhone and it looks completely different!

wow

what a lame-ass rumor!

let's see, WSJ claims an undisclosed source claims iPhone is coming to Verizon. ho-hum. yes, we expect it to happen, no it's not official till Apple announces it. So why are we talking about it?

And Apple is working on the 5th generation iPhone? REALLY? You mean companies actually plan and research and test future products even while they have newly released products in the market?!?!?!? surprise, surprise. And here I thought BMW isn't working on the 2013 3-series and Panasonic isn't working on their 2011 3-D flatscreens. duh.

Everything in this rumor means NOTHING. please move along.

Verizon would have to decide to loosen their draconian grasp of content before this happens, because there is no way Apple degrades/alters/whatever the iPhone experience for any carrier.

But both companies would make a killing if they could arrive at an agreement.

And so it begins......:(

Yes, and anyone who thought otherwise suffers from a large dose of naivete.
It amazes me how many people in here thought Apple would not modify the design, and would never go to Verizon.

This is no rumor, and the White Phone delay was not from a "Paint Problem".

Time to wake up. ;)

The new phone will be a new "form factor", ugh, "antenna". It will be out on GSM and CDMA mid 1st Q.

Watch. :apple:

Why do ppl keep saying this? Checked out the latest Verizon smartphones lately?
People have. Did you miss the story about HTC including a feature that detects if an Android phone has been rooted and automatically downloading and upgrading back to the factory default OS?

BTW. When will Verizon catch up and modernize their logo? It looks so dated.

Maybe Verizon, hoping to convince their customers to stick with them a little longer for day when they actually do get the iPhone. And if they can generate additional consumer interest, that should put pressure on Apple to make a deal with Verizon. (Just makin' stuff up here. :D)

Very likely. A deal with the Devil so to speak. Apple needs a CDMA carrier to combat Android in the US Market, and Verizon knows it. Sure globally, iOS is larger, but the US is Home Plate. Android needs a smack down and a Verizon phone is the answer, not Sprint.

If at&t had not put up new towers over the summer I would be on my way to Verizon despite preferring at&t's practices.

Verizon can be a bad apple in many ways , but living on at&t Edge service with a 3GS was no fun either. :apple:

Since owning my iPhone 4, I've been thinking that Apple's next step would be to add a touch-sensitive surface to the BACK of the phone. Imagine how that would change the way you view content....with no big fat thumb in front of the screen. A "premium" form factor could possibly incorporate this.

How would you hold then phone?

Apple is a US company but it does not need dominate the US market. Apple is focusing on expanding to other markets worldwide. I'm sorry if that offends you but Apple does not need Verizon or any other CDMA carrier. Apple has always thought "globally" and the fact that they have shipped products that supported multiple languages out of the box supports that global focus. MSFT, on the other hand used to ship different versions of windows for different markets and often did not support as many languages as Apple did.

Just like the guy falling from a cliff thinks "so far, so good."

Similar for sure. The only difference is that these rumors are all false will always be false.

One might say that someday Apple will announce a Verizon iphone and so one rumor will be right. Wrong. Endlessly saying its coming and not being able to back it up does not equate to offering legitimate rumors. Its just blindly making the same statement over and over.

So until Apple says there is an iphone on another carrier, there will be none.

Also, if a verizon iphone shows up it is no the same as hitting the ground after a long fall.

I guess you are saying you believe this rumor. I believed a couple of them and felt foolish after.

There will be no verizon iphone until 2012. That is when the contract for ATT runs out. It was revealed in a court case. And no evidence proves that contract was rewritten.

There will be no 2011 or 2010 iphone for verizon.

Even if this is true, I am not going to make the switch to Verizon until the newest phone is out with them. Not gonna get stuck using a 6 month old phone. Cuz in 6 months after that I will want the newest one.

I saw this story on my local news (Chicago) Through all the rumors, I've never seen it on the actual news. They seemed to state it as fact. I couldn't care less, but I guess we shall see.

What does this have to do with Verizon?

who would have thought that a 5th gen iphone is in the works. Actually the 6th probably is as well.

And you know this because you are best buds with Steve Jobs? The answer is you don't know. It may very well be coming on November....it may never come. Truth is very few people truly know either way. I'd bet my next paycheck that you aren't on the list of those in the know.

True and False. True, repeating it over and over doesn't make it true or inevitable which is what most people are really implying. False, just becuase it hasn't been announced yet doesn't make it untrue either. Announced or not, if Apple and Verizon have made the agreement and started manufacturing, barring some unforseen circumstance we will see a Verizon iPhone. If they haven't...we won't. But don't call it false just because it hasn't been officially announced.

And you have intimate knowledge of the agreement, it's terms, and it's current status? I'm gonna go out on a limb and once again say that you don't. There has been a lot of speculation that the agreement was modified back in 2008 because AT&T wanted out of the revenue sharing portion. This could have easily shortened the contract. There are often exit clauses in contracts, it's very possible that the contract does not run the full 5 years.

So what I'm basically saying is while a lot of the rumors may be false, it's not certain that they are either. There is a possibility that they are true. This particular rumor has been running strong since March and has done nothing but pickup speed. I think anybody that doesn't give it serious consideration is just foolish. Like you I've been burned so I won't assume it's true, but to assume it's false is just a wrong.

Anyone who's owned a high-end Verizon smartphone for the past few years knows that they don't have any "draconian grasp of content". (Some of the simpler phones do, like the ones locked to Bing.)

What Verizon would most likely do, is the same as they did for Android: create VCast apps and have them ready for download shortly after launch.

But both companies would make a killing if they could arrive at an agreement.

USAToday added a note to their article today. The LTE reference caught my eye, although of course the whole thing could be simple handwaving:

We asked Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam about the report. His response:

"I have said for the last three years that I have felt when the business interests of the two companies (Apple and Verizon) align, we would do something together.

LTE is a great opportunity because it will be the premium network.

I'm not ready to announce anything but we're always interested in broadening our portfolio and doing business with them."

Ok show me that the contract was reworked.

Until I see proof, I have no reason to believe it has.

There will be no verizon iphone before 2012.

Finally someone else who agrees with me.

Apple has pushed the iPhone to be the #1 seller, they want it to be the #1 phone. During the initial announcement of the iPhone, Steve Jobs said something about not wanting to be the #1 seller. Mercedes isn't the number #1 seller and whats wrong with being the Mercedes of phones. Thats not word for word, but you get the idea.

If Verizon won't accept Apples terms I know that T-Mobile and Sprint will. AT&T + T-Mobile + Sprint = bigger then Verizon anyway.

People want an option on carriers for the iPhone, any option is better then just AT&T. A single carrier just can't cut it. T-Mobile is doing so bad these days that they would be willing to do anything to get the iPhone. I know many people would drop AT&T to just get away from them regardless of who has them.

haha i was driving a few minutes ago and heard it on news radio stating the same thing as "fact"

Something did happen in 2008. When AT&T announced the iPhone 3G, they also announced a new contract:

"Under the terms of a new agreement with Apple, AT&T remains the exclusive U.S. carrier of the iPhone 3G, which will be available beginning July 11 at a starting price of $199 with a two-year contract."

There will be no verizon iphone before 2012.

It all depends on the length of the final contract, and WHEN it was signed.

For example, the original Cingular-Apple contract was signed in the summer of 2006. Five years from then would be summer 2011.
