Stock Manipulation

That's WSJ for you.

A week ago it was reported that the iPhone may never come to Verizon. Today, the iphone is going into mass production for availability on 1Q11.

About 6 months ago, it was reported that Apple stock was purposefully being manipulate by creating one story or another regarding Apple, so as to force Apple stock up or down to allow those manipulators make a lot of money on these rumors as they time their buys and sells.

Apple stock is one of the most volatile of the stocks just because the rumor and predictions are effective.

Don't bet your savings on these rumors. The constant barrage about Apple is all a rouse to make a lot of cheap money.

Maybe Verizon, hoping to convince their customers to stick with them a little longer for day when they actually do get the iPhone. And if they can generate additional consumer interest, that should put pressure on Apple to make a deal with Verizon. (Just makin' stuff up here. :D)

Best post ever- always focus on the motives behind the actions. I agree story could be spoon fed for leverage and to keep the "on the fence" customers. Shoot it worked on me in 2007,2008 and even 2009. In 2010 I woke up to the lies.

You're right, I held off buying an iPhone 4, but have an iPhone and don't remember any kind of controversy like this or Consumer Reports not recommending it. The only problem with the original iPhone was the ATT networks in certain markets, and not my market I might add. I had great reception. From multiple tests I read, holding the iPhone 4 in a certain way drops a call and it's easy to repeat the problem.

Do you tell people, "Well, don't hold that way then"? LOL

And it's worse than other phones and Apple got caught fudging tests.

I find it hard to believe Consumer Reports is less credible that fanboys on MacRumors! HAHA!
And I hardly believe Consumer Reports has it in for Apple either like some of the conspiracy nuts here have suggested. They simply were easily able to reproduce the problem. It's that simple.

But like I said, arguing here is pointless, everyone's under Steve Jobs' infamous reality distortion field.

That said, I WILL be looking into the VERIZON iPhone and/or iPhone 5 since I love my iPhone.

ya, because its so unusual to find apple fans on an website completely dedicated to apple users

After seeing how profitable AT&T and Apple were with the pervious versions of the iPhone, how could Verizon pass up the iPhone now? (I know they did in the past)

Let Apple do there thing Verizon, and start reeling in the dough. And also revamping your network because once the iPhone happens, you will NOT be ready for it.

Sure they'll be ready. They've always been ready. They already handle more data than AT&T with ease.

Besides, don't you think they would be even more prepared after seeing what AT&T did?

Apple is not going to have two versions on the iPhone. Tolkien predicted this over 50 years ago. That's what he meant with this:

One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them.

Get it? Ring? iPhone? Uhhhh... Never mind ;-)

And if you read the first article they predicted that production wouldn't begin until September. So at worst they're simply revising their prediction by a few months.

On another note CNBC has been reporting on this all day. This is much different than an internet article that admits that its a rumor.

CNBC is slime. Never, ever believe any story they push if it can move market prices.

I'm just coming back to peruse this thread while my wife is watching the news and... first the local 11:00 news brings up this rumor, then goes to commercial. Which happened to be an iPhone commercial. Hmmmmm... Spoon fed, indeed.

Apple makes only one run of iPhones for all carriers around the world and then allocates IMEI numbers in a database to shipments per carrier which demand SIM locks.

Exactly the only localization Apple does on any hardware is the white lump of plastic and copper that connects the transformer to the wall.

LMAO!!! If anyone thinks Apple would agree to a V-Cast App Store on the iPhone, you have been drinking too much of BiG Red's Kool Aid. Verizon is all about control and anyone who thinks they have changed their ways is very ignorant!

You've got the control shoe on the foot of the wrong company.

Verizon's app store is in addition to the other Android market(s). You're not locked into it.

Apple is the company that locks its users into a single store.

I'm only speculating but I think we'll see a CDMA iPhone 4 then later on the iPhone 5 will be CDMA & GSM.

Doubt Apple would invest in a CDMA phone.
If they were to go to Verizon it would be on their LTE network.

Really? Both would cost the same in R&D and the CDMA version would have a cheaper, more tested, more efficient chip.

And an LTE phone would still require a CDMA chipset.

AND if the 1st Gen iPhone is any indication, then Apple will do exactly that.

kdarling and the rest of the people in this thread are not seeing the forest for the trees.

You can choose to ignore the fact that Apple controls the app store and music store on iOS and that Apple would never allow carrier branding beyond the small carrier logo in the top left corner but you are all missing something very important.

Look at any recent advertisement for a RIM or Android phone on Verizon (or even AT&T) and compare it with iPhone ads. What is the main difference you notice? The Android phones are advertised by *drum roll* VERIZON and not google or HTC/Motorola. Beyond the Verizon branding on the devices themselves Verizon is front and centre in the ad. That Nokia guy was right. The companies using Android have become OEMs for Verizon which controls what goes on the phone.

Contrast that with Apple and you will notice that iPhone ads have "APPLE" front and centre, AT&T is a footnote, the ads are produced and controlled by Apple and you will see the same ads displayed in multiple countries with just the carrier tag line at the end changed. Apple markets directly to consumers rather than being an OEM for carriers like AT&T. Can you think of any recent phones on Verizon that were marketed directly by the maker instead of Verizon and not plastered with Verizon logos? No?

This is why you will never, never see an iPhone on Verizon. As long and they treat every phone maker as a slave "OEM", Apple will never deal with them.

Apple markets directly to the consumer and treats carriers as sales channels rather than as a rebranding partner.

All the wishing and hoping will not change a thing and it is Verizon that has to be willing to change with the times. Apple will not sellout on their quest to revolutionize how phones enter the market and they will never become subservient to any single carrier.

Have you even used a Verizon Android phone?!?! You're clueless. They no longer treat the smartphones like that.

And you can't blame the way advertising is done on Verizon, this is how those manufacturers and almost every other manufacturer works. They give the retailers a certain amount of advertising funds to create their own ads. This is very common in the advertising world. Apple is unique in this case and I don't see any reason why Verizon wouldn't be fine with that. It's not Verizon trying to control the advertising, it's just how the industry works in general. You really don't know what you are talking about.

Edit: And I think Verizon would give in on the one area they are most persistent about....the logo. If the rest of the world sells the phone with no logo, Verizon will realize they will need to do the same.

Heard it. They said it would be by december, now it's by early next year. This has been said before, it's not true and at this time I don't believe Apple has any interest in getting in bed with a carrier that demands it's branding all over their phones.

Apple has the bank to make demands that Verizon would have to follow or not be able to play. Like no branding, Apple controls the features and software etc.

And while I have no doubt that at some point Verizon will get the iphone, I am suspect of any rumor that doesn't mention T-Mobile. Big T already has GSM in the system, even if on a different band than ATT. It seems unlikely, to me, that they would open up to a CDMA net and not to T-Mobile. Unlocking and adapting to T-Mobile or unlocking and adapting to all seems the more likely to me.

Or even, if possible, the iphone 1-4 go open market and the new 5 is ATT only until the previously revealed 2012 contract end
