It's going to happen. Jobs will announce it in January, and it will be released with iOS 4.3 in March.

I know this to be very close to 100% correct. Can't offer proof here for obvious reasons. Doubt away doubters, just get your crow pies baked in time for the holidays. :D

Separately, the newspaper also reports that Apple is developing a new iPhone model. This fifth-generation iPhone is said to have a different form factor than those currently available. They were unsure how soon this fifth-generation iPhone would become available on Verizon.

Of course the 5th gen iphone will have a different form factor than the defective and badly designed ip4.

Since owning my iPhone 4, I've been thinking that Apple's next step would be to add a touch-sensitive surface to the BACK of the phone. Imagine how that would change the way you view content....with no big fat thumb in front of the screen. A "premium" form factor could possibly incorporate this.

Verizon CDMA

ah .. so with Verizon's CDMA we'll go from AT&T's <wait, wait> "hello? hello? .. " <drop, drop> to .. "Can you hear me now? .. how about now?" <fuzz, fuzz, crinkle>

all I ask for is a decent mobile data network and quasi-reliable VoIP

I can't wait for 5 years from now, when we can all look back and laugh at this, as we walk at Wal-Mart, past a shelf full of pre-paid iPhone 9's on Boost Mobile.

I thought all cell phones were mass produced by little Chinese people making $2.35 a day.

hmmm so Apple is having difficulty keeping up with current demand, difficulty obtaining enough touch pannels to satisfy AT&T's customer demand, while concurrently having a tough time feeding China's demand for iphones and you believe that they will have a million Verizon iPhones ready to go in three months? and if they release this verizon iPhone in feb/march will they turn around and slap all those new Verizon iPhone customers in the face with iPhone 5 in the summer of '11?

I wonder what will be the thing that everyone wants after this rumor becomes true? We now have a front facing camera, multitasking, cut, copy & paste. Hopefully they won't put 3D into it for a while because that still has a while to go before it becomes nice to use, I think anyway

Yea, WSJ sure is reputable now.

Ha ha. Good research. One day, they'll all be true!! LOL.

I love the form too, although i love being able to hold a phone any way I want to and make a phone call at the same time more.

then you'd love my iphone4, b/c I can hold mine any way I want and still make and hold calls. sorry you had a bad experience with yours.

This "new form factor" iphone better come out the normal time they come out so us iP4 owners are atleast eligible for the $200 upgrade.

I bet you dont even have an iphone 4. So of course you're right and the "fanboys" who claim its not an issue who actually HAVE the phone are wrong.

You're right, I held off buying an iPhone 4, but have an iPhone and don't remember any kind of controversy like this or Consumer Reports not recommending it. The only problem with the original iPhone was the ATT networks in certain markets, and not my market I might add. I had great reception. From multiple tests I read, holding the iPhone 4 in a certain way drops a call and it's easy to repeat the problem.

Do you tell people, "Well, don't hold that way then"? LOL

And it's worse than other phones and Apple got caught fudging tests.

I find it hard to believe Consumer Reports is less credible that fanboys on MacRumors! HAHA!
And I hardly believe Consumer Reports has it in for Apple either like some of the conspiracy nuts here have suggested. They simply were easily able to reproduce the problem. It's that simple.

But like I said, arguing here is pointless, everyone's under Steve Jobs' infamous reality distortion field.

That said, I WILL be looking into the VERIZON iPhone and/or iPhone 5 since I love my iPhone.

Will bet money that there's no Verizon iPhone next year. I have sources too, probably just as reliable.
