My prediction...

Here's what I think...

Verizon announces the iPhone 4 next week. Minor update for CMDA.

End of the month at Apple Event.. iPhone 4x announced with tweaks to the current configuration for all companies (antenna change, camera upgrade, battery life, more memory). Also, iPad 2.0 Announced and update to iOS again. Possible new iMacs or Laptops.

Developers Conference. iPhone 4G, major upgrade to processor, Major update to iOS along with Apps for AppleTV, and of course, Lion updates with cool new features.

iPhone 5 (or whatever the next BIG change is) not for another year. iPhone 4 is a good design overall and they soaked the iPhone 3G design for a couple years.

I don't typically get invites directly from Verizon to anything. At least not that I can recall. They usually send those directly to the MobileCrunch and CrunchGear guys. But this invite appears to very specifically be for me - it's non-transferable. Would Verizon send me such an invite unless it was specially about Apple?

Here's what's key: We're great friends with Verizon. (Hi guys!) We've worked with them for years, and we've been to like every event they've had over the last three years. We haven't gotten an invite. Which is weird. We've reached out to Verizon to see why, exactly, we weren't invited, but we've gotten no comment yet. (And they're super on their game, so they're usually pretty quick to reply.) The obvious answer is that it's an Apple event, and Steve doesn't want us there. You know the story.

Added to everything that's been reported over the last few months—and again today in the Times, we think Verizon's announcing the iPhone."

At first I didn't think this event would be for the Verizon iPhone, but after reading the post from Gizmodo, its beginning to look like it will finally arrive. I don't want, nor need a Verizon iPhone, but their are a lot of people in my family who's contract have been up for a wile and have been waiting to ditch their Droid phones as soon as the iPhone arrives on Verizon.

iphone 4 for sure

This is definitely the iphone 4 heres why. If Verizon releases the iphone 4 its just a new handset. No new features. I think Steve could live with them having that announcement. It wouldn't be Ipad2 (CDMA) because now we are talking cameras, thinner, facetime, most likely facetime via 3g, etc etc. NEW FEATURES! There is no way in the universe Mr. Jobs would ever let the Big Red have that thunder. So you heard it here first. Your 100 gets you 300 if you wanna wager. Not to mention it doesn't seem right to announce two big things at one time. Look for a special Apple event on the 18th. Peace

i still dont buy that there cant be 2 release cycles. the demand for any iphone is extreme, imagine if all verizon and att customers were trying to get into apple stores in june/july to get the new iphone. it would be absolute madness

I hope this doesn't have anything to do with an Apple product. Verizon announcing an iPhone or iPad would make it appear Verizon is calling the shots instead of Apple. It's already starting to look like Verizon is abusing Android (Bing on the Galaxy S?!), and basically coaxed Google into changing its stance on net neutrality. I only fear how Verizon would abuse a relationship with Apple.

Again (as stated many times throughout this thread), in other countries where iPhone was opened up to other carriers, Apple did not do a press event - the Carrier did *OR* it was a press release from the Carrier.

So again, I ask... why would VZW be any different? This is the same iPhone 4 (essentially) that's out already, this is *not* a new device. This is just a new carrier.

Honestly, what would Steve have to present in an entire, full fledged Apple event? He would pack in 5,000 people just to go on stage, show some fancy financial stats and then simply say "the iPhone is now available on Verizon Wireless."

No.

This is a Verizon announcement because Apple makes announcements for new products. This isn't a new product. Furthermore, by Apple making a big hype about Verizon, it will display to investors that Apple isn't confident about there decisions and is realizing they made a mistake with Verizon and AT&T. For PR reasons alone, it is better for Apple to let VZW make any sort of annoucement.

Good point. Madness is an understatement.

Me thinks you're giving Verizon too much credit. They aren't that clever :)
More importantly, if it's not the Verizon iPhone, the only coverage the event will get in the electronics (let alone the mainstream) media is that "Verizon didn't announce the iPhone."

At this point, Verizon can't hold any secretive press events unless they're iPhone related. All the data has pointed to a January-February release window.

well.... its not ipad2.
it is highly unlikely to be ipad 1
it is unlikely to be a verizon macbook something

it is possible it is the verizon cdma iphone

not possible- 5th gen iphone, or 4g iphone

I am still confused, why apple is not there.

maybe apple changing things, or i suppose it doesn't make sense for apple to have a media event just for the verizon iphone, which is only in US

I can't wait til 1-12-11. We will get either the:

"No way on Verizon iPhone! Apple wouldn't do this way"

or

"Verizon Phone!! Whooo. Finally"

Saying "I told you so" or never replying again to any of their posts in this thread.

Gotta get me some popcorn!! :D

The real question is whether or not Apple is going to let VZN put their ******** bloatware all over the OS. ATT iPhone has AT&T in two places: Simcard and Signal.

Are you saying that if Apple held the event the investors would think that Steve Jobs was conceding that AT&T exclusivity for the last 3.5 years was a mistake? Isn't it commonly understood that Verizon is the one that said no to Apple when they were first approached and that's why AT&T got the exclusivity? Seems like Verizon making a big deal out of this annoucement, is their way of saying "Sorry we wouldn't play with you before Apple. But we sure are happy to be part of the party now!" ?

...and millions of American heads explode. :p

If this is the beginning of a non AT&T iPhone, everyone will benefit. AT&T service may improve with the (possible) exodus of many subscribers, lessening the over loaded AT&T infrastructure keeping loyal AT&T customers. Those who held off on purchasing an iPhone due to AT&T exclusivity will now be able to have an iPhone. The competition between the two mobile providers will undoubtedly be a win/win for the consumer market for many obvious reasons.

As a Cingular subscriber since 2006 I am no longer tied to AT&T; I may leave w/o penalty and I have over 10,000 roll-over minutes (seriously lol). If a VW iPhone is released I'll let the dust settle before deciding on switching.

Look, this is going to be the Verizon iPhone. There is loads of evidence and Gizmodo is not invited:D

Apple wouldn't do a whole event just on this, they didn't for any other carrier or country in the world so why would they for Verizon?

I am pleased for the americans here that another carrier is getting the iPhone, competition is great for the consumer, as it has been proven all over the world.

Take it from someone who is not from the USA and thus not emotionally attached to this story and say what you want, but this will be the Verizon iPhone announcement. End of.

Leave it to one of our British brothers to make some sense here. LOL, thanks!!

We will all know on the 11th. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but I have a hard time believing that Verizon would send this invite without this being about the Iphone. They can read the rumors like everyone else. If they announce anything else they might all get up and walk out. I know there were rumors before but they weren't as widely reported like these have been the last few months. How many AT&T Iphones will be sold this weekend after this announcement? If I were AT&T I being leaking to the press that we weren't losing exclusivity if they truly were not. Where there is smoke there is fire.

No way Apple lets Verizon do the announcement.

I don't recall Steve Jobs announcing for other carriers around the globe using the iPhone. Verizon isn't announcing a new product, just the iPhone 4 availability.

 I agree. No way Steve Jobs and Apple let Verizon make the announcement. This is an Apple event and IF there is ever an iPhone on Verizon Apple will make the announcement.

Jobs always announces the new carriers at an Apple event.

Not to burst your bubble, but competition in other countries didn't have much impact on the price of the iPhone or the wireless rates.

I won't believe it til it's tweeted by Assange.

Wouldn't it be great if the lights come up and Steve Jobs walks out on the stage?

Or V guy does a "One more thing" after showing the iPad and Jobs walks out...

I agree. If anything is going to be said about an iPhone on Verizon at this event, then Jobs will probably be called on stage.

If Jobs is not there, no iPhone on Verizon.

I hope this is true. Getting tired of hearing about market domination from the Fandroids (thanks a lot, AT&T iPhone exclusivity).

Time to level the playing field.

Now how about Sprint and T-Mobile too? Sprint has some killer plan prices.
