The data and voice at the same time is a huge thing for me.

On my company blackberry on Verizon, it's ridiculous when I'm on a long call and I have to wait till I hang up before I start getting email again (and even that takes time to sync back to the company exchange after the call).

On my iPhone, I'm constantly getting my emails while on calls :)

this feels like the most important day of my life.....

As I am guilty of being a fanboy... I hope this does some serious damage to android. As android sells like mostly to the US right.... and by android I mean phones with Android. And Verizon had been the biggest android seller?

May threaten androids growth? LOL.... yeah ok. Android is becoming the unstoppable machine. Apple would need to make a complete overhaul to keep up. You know... 4 inch+ screens, a new UI, widgets, etc.

still following apple and this rumor for the last 4 years it will be quite good to finally end the most eagered american rumor
:apple:

Thanks for the link. I will be on it in three hours time to see if this long awaited thing happens. I have no doubt it will happen sometime, but a lot points to it today. :)

I talked to a PAA and they are not saying a thing.

I think we will see AT&T offer up the unlimited pretty quick. They really have to to keep many of the customers from leaving that aren't grandfathered. For the most part I never go over two gigs anyways. I did one time but just barely. I just don't want to give up my unlimited cause I know I would lose it. I would drop to the 2gig a month if they brought the unlimited back though. So if I saw my usage start getting over 2gig often enough I would switch. I know its only $5 a month difference but I don't mind saving a bit here and there.

I also believe you will see Verizon offer up their plans to be the same price or lower than AT&T's today. I know about six months ago I was at the end of my contract and 'built' the same plan I have, for the most part, and it was about $20 more than AT&T. Its not worth it to me as I have good service, except when I travel to Fallon, NV. I am in the military and I go out there a few times a year for 2-3 weeks and its EGDE roaming. Its awful.

One more thing to add here. @jopunk. I don't believe Apple has to give any concessions to Verizon. They are the one with all the cards. Verizon isn't going to get to change a damn thing on the phones operating system like they normally do.

I haven't even come close to my 2GB limit. "Unlimited Data" seems like more of a marketing tactic to me.

I used to say the same thing. But last month while traveling, and couldn't use wi-fi in the home I was staying, I surpassed the 2 GB limit before 30 days was up (about 26 days).

I don't view any movies on 3G iPad.

I use iPad only for web surfing and e-mail; I don't consider myself a heavy user at all, but I did max out. I did keep my blog site going which might have been the reason, but like I said, I never thought I would max out. I did.

Mostly for me it's about them not covering the area I'm in - southwest Michigan - particularly well. Their so-called "coverage maps" say that my home, my parents' home, and other places I go are all in the "good" coverage area, in reality I see "Searching..." and "No Service" when I'm anywhere other than home, where I'm using my own bandwidth to cover (MicroCell) and the office, which is in downtown Grand Rapids, MI.

My brother, using a Droid Eris on Verizon, can download apps, check sports scores, watch video, etc. all while I sit there with no service saying, "Well, uh, mine has Infinity Blade!"

No dice, AT&T. I'm gone at the soonest opportunity. Take your extortion switch fee, to ensure I not only leave, but leave in anger. If AT&T had a reliable network, I'd stay.

i agree with you...i was going to put that the unnecessary software on my android device definitely slows down my phone and i see myself having to use a task killer almost everytime i unlock the phone...i even have it set to autokill apps every hour also...in short i rather have an iphone and i can live without the pro's that you have stated

You do know Task killer is one of the worst things you can do, the Android OS is built to automatically close background un-needed apps on its own and using a Task killer interupts the processes and actually bogs down the phone as it has to restart processes you just killed

but it sounds to me like CDMA (Whatever that is) will do a great disservice to the user experience - no data and calls at the same time? That's madness.[/QUOTE said:

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I do as well.

Question that I have not seen however- if you are surfing data on a VZN iPhone, does your incoming call go to VM. That sure would suck.

As he said in ID4, "I'm back!"

Anyone want to start a pool on when we hear the first complaint about verizon's network or not being able to use data and voice at the same time??? I say 4 hours after its first sold.

Ha. I'll take the under.

Can't wait until the vaunted Verizon myth is busted. All cell phone carriers are lousy in some aspect. ATT switchers are going to be a tough crowd to please given all the hype how Verizon is superior. We will soon see if that is the case or it's just that VZ didn't have a whole lot of bandwidth eating phones and users.

Personally I won't be switching -- at least for now. Maybe if VZ is first w/ an LTE phone but it will be hard to give up roll over minutes.

I'm hoping this isn't some sort of duopoly and verizion is just the first non-AT&T carrier to announce it.

Yes and no. I'm positive VZW has a CDMA carrier exclusive. Whether that is for 1 year or 5 who knows. I don't think Apple cares about T-Mob since their sub. base is pretty small.

May threaten androids growth? LOL.... yeah ok. Android is becoming the unstoppable machine. Apple would need to make a complete overhaul to keep up. You know... 4 inch+ screens, a new UI, widgets, etc.

Honestly, I think you have geek blinders on. If the iPhone where any physically bigger or heavier I wouldn't be interested -- and I wouldn't be alone either. Most Android buyers have it b/c they want to be on Verizon not because they love Android. A VZW iPhone cuts Android phone sales by 20% min. Bank it.

Isn't anyone surprised at how, in 2011 you have telco's that still use ageing CDMA while the rest of the world is in 3G and Edge, moving on.

It's incredible how people are willing to put up with these limitations from Verizon when the rest of the world has had these features for years. Hell even here in Australia where we have really stingy telcos we at least have rather decent cellular services.

Bit like how you's still broadcast some shows in letterbox 4:3. When we recieve them here, its so...fuzzy and compressed. 100% HD down under :D

The United States has 307 million people, while Australia has 22 million. Those 22 million are more densely populated than the 307 million in the United States. Imaging the size of the networks in the United States and the costs to upgrade!

It's amazing to see the hatred for the "other" company. If you like your service on ATT, stay. If not, change. But calling ATT "evil" suggests that Verizon is a paradise. That's laughable! They are both evil, and will try to screw you whenever they can. But, they are both a necessary evil. I had Verizon for years, but switched to the iPhone 2 years ago. In my area (DC/Metro), it works fine. I do drop calls....but in the same spots I dropped Verizon calls (there are some spots that are cell phone vortexes).

Looking through the posts, there are certainly some areas where ATT is better, and some where Verizon is better. If one is better for you, join that network, enjoy the phone and shut up already!!

Everyone is praising the yet to be announced unlimited data from Verizon...remember, it's not FREE, they will charge for it...the question is are you willing to pay? For the majority of users I know, unlimited data is not an issue.

Get the iPhone, choose your network and enjoy! ...and screw Android!!

Let's just get this over with so we can get onto other issues... like the new iPad. :D

Good to see more expansion in the US. Personally, I'm not leaving AT&T anytime soon. Good service for me and I like to surf and talk. Do it all the time as I use my iPhone for my work phone.

There was a poll posted a while back that showed that 75% of AT&T customers would stay with AT&T even if the iPhone was offered on Verizon. I am one of those customers as I have had no bad service with them, and I can pay my internet and cell phone bill all in one.

As for unlimited data, just wait till VZ network is bogged down like AT&T, and their tune will change. Sort of ironic that they should get the iPhone now especially after stating that the iPhone would never be a real contender anyways.

Personally I won't be switching -- at least for now. Maybe if VZ is first w/ an LTE phone but it will be hard to give up roll over minutes.

I know everyone has different phone needs, but I've always been curious about such sentiments.

Doesn't the presence of rollover minutes simply mean you typically are overpaying for your plan? I used to be on a tiered plan with AT&T as well (I'm on unlimited now....talk about 60-70 hours per month on mobile) and while I seldom had any minutes left to carry over, those times that I did I never really 'ate into' them in the following month.

I can see rollover minutes being of higher value to people who RARELY use the voice features of the phone as you can go for the absolute lowest tier and just start banking the minutes. But even then...it simply means you are paying for stuff you don't really need.

What is the appeal?

Honestly, I think you have geek blinders on. If the iPhone where any physically bigger or heavier I wouldn't be interested -- and I wouldn't be alone either. Totally with you on this one.

I've been lukeworm towards AT&T. I've had plenty of dropped calls, etc. And sometimes the network is slow. I'm excited about the possibility of a change, not that I'm necessarily going to make it.

My contract with AT&T is up in August, which I think will be perfect timing. The Verizon iPhone will have been out for a while, and we'll be able to see if there is indeed an easing of the network because of detractors (and if the same problems exist for Verizon users).

Being a phone free agent this summer is going to be fun.

I think this is good news for both consumers and Apple. Sure, AT&T will most likely lose a lot of customers, but I think overall performance will go up.

Those who jump to Verizon, or were with Verizon and now can get an iPhone will definitely help truly test how strong Verizon's communications are. On the other side, lowering the AT&T iPhone customer base may boost the AT&T performance. Then price/feature competition occurs.

Still, if the iPhone wasn't so successful, or Verizon would've initially agreed to actually allow someone like Apple control the Phone Hardware and OS, none of this would've happened the way it did. Verizon ended up *out of it* for 4 years because they were too stubborn, in the beginning.

As for rollover minutes. I use them pretty well. I go for the lower end of the spectrum of phone use. More of my Phone use time goes to AT&T cellphones for the unlimited talk portion. Another big set gets captured in the Nights and Weekends pool. I do use the anytime minutes for some family and friends during the day, but those talks are generally shorter and I normally never use them up in a month. Some months, very rarely. At home, I also supplement (what is not quite night-minutes) with Skype.

I agree. A step backwards. No simultaneous voice and data. So, I have to end my telephone call to look up some info and then "get back" to whomever I was calling.

At least then you get to choose when the call ends.

My son's iPhone abruptly ends the call for him half the time. Talk about a step backwards.

He lives in Secaucus and travels to work in NYC. Keeping a connection going on ATT around there sometimes takes a miracle.
