Maybe now I'll at least have service in time square let alone my apartment.

Say what? I don't think I have been anywhere in NYC where I have had not signal, let alone Times Square.

Now when you go outside of NYC and into the townships, that is a whole different issue as many voted to keep towers out and away from their region. With AT&T, my signal is unpredictable when I travel, but what really sucks is getting crappy signal in my neighborhood when there is a AT&T store not a mile away and typically zero signal at my house. For that reason I will switch to Verizon (my wife's Verizon crackberry always has freak'n signal).

Honestly, I think you have geek blinders on. If the iPhone where any physically bigger or heavier I wouldn't be interested -- and I wouldn't be alone either. Most Android buyers have it b/c they want to be on Verizon not because they love Android. A VZW iPhone cuts Android phone sales by 20% min. Bank it.

my friend emigrated to the US due to marrying a bloke there, he's on Verizon and it made financial sense that he added a line to his account for her, she had to ditch her iPhone, which she loves, for an android, she really wants to get back to the iPhone as after using the samsung phone, she just really hates that phone and feels the iPhone is better, so i agree with you there.

The real question concerning this entire event, the question not being asked so far, is which network is SJ going to use for his iPhone?

SJ has some insight into which network the iPhone works best on.

Why would SJ need an iPhone or any cell phone, to call someone or bark out orders? Come on! Dude has a staff for that.

I was thinking about this last night actually, but being the CEO of Apple, he better have an iPhone on both networks so he can test the usability, and network of both.

Why and who really uses both Voice and data at the same time?.. I have never use it and I see it as being rude if you are checking your email or looking at some thing that has nothing to do with the person you are talking to..

I don't know why people try to argue against this feature. It's silly. People use this all the time, how is it rude when someone on the other line is asking me to look up directions for them?

I just spent some time reading some of these posts. I had to stop. I cannot believe how much mis-information gets spouted in here, and how many people are pretty ignorant in many specifics with ATT, Verizon, or other networks.

What is sad is the people that take the time to let other's know they are incorrect get pounced on.

If you don't believe someone, look it up. You were able to find this forum, why cant you find the true answers yourself? unless people do it on purpose to confuse everyone.

I do quite often

Talking for someone and need to look up a number for them, address, relay what an email said, etc

Happens quite a bit for me and nice to have that ability when needed

Just because you don't use it doesn't mean it's representative to all users

As the person you quoted talked of his experiences and what is important to him in a network, who are you to question him on what his habits should be?

Just saying lol...

+1

I use it all the time, much in the same manner you spoke of. It's not rude to the caller when you're looking up something for their benefit in real time. As long as you use speakerphone or earbuds, you can maintain the conversation whilst you're looking stuff up.

I'm wondering if the Verizon phone will have LTE capability and will make use of it where available for simultaneous voice/data. I don't see that as being any different to my 3G rolling back to EDGE when 3G isn't available.

We'll know soon enough. :D

Will this be Apple's primary January event this year? I always look forward to these but it seems like this one regards the Verizon network only, and being in the UK, this means nothing to me, Verizon doesn't exist here!

Anything that us Brits can look forward to?

This isn't an apple event. Apple have yet to announce any special press events this year...

2 Words:

Unlimited Data.

Honestly though, Verizons deal is not great for the vast, vast majority of end users IMO.

I finially gave up my grandfathered unlimited plan with ATT a month ago, and for the first time was really monitoring the data usage on my account.

166MB. Without hampering myself. I TRY not to download to many apps and music on the go over 3g, but thats it.

I'm willing to be that for users with home wifi, 200MB covers 75% of them, and 2 Gigs probably gets closer 90%+.

I think Verizon has a snake in the grass with thier plans being 150MB and then unlimited. That extra 50MB is what separates extremely minor consciousness about data usage and possible end of the month strangleholds to stay under the threshold.

I think many people are not honest about what thier personal usage is on these things (to themselves)...just like you used to see alot of people buying computers with 10x as much juice as they need to suit their lifestyles.

We know he carries an iPhone, he's always responding to emails from it.

The guy still has a family and there is a tiny portion of his life that doesn't involve Apple.

At the press conference for Antennagate, when SJ & co had to defend the iPhone, the press asked if they used iPhone 4s themselves and they all pulled out their iPhones.

None of them had covers or bumpers on their phones, either.

It amazes me how so many people buy an expensive phone, lock themselves into a long term contract, THEN say..."Oh My GOD, AT&T is horrible, I hate them...I can't wait until <<INSERT CARRIER NAME HERE>> gets the iPhone!"

Do these type of people buy things blindly? Or out of impulse? I mean, if you have the slightest uncertainty, go get a cheap Go phone, or similar and try it before you lay out all that $$. Doesn't make sense to me at all. I tried a few carriers at home, and in places I normally go, then made the decision based on that. It worked out that AT&T and T-Mo had the best reception/data. And since the iPhone was available, I went that way. But if it had been say Sprint, then I'd have gone the BB or EVO route. Or if Verizon, the same...BB or some Droid...

Don't blame the carrier for making a poor decision.

I couldn't imagine Jobs, or any other executives at apple NOT using an iPhone. It truly is the best smartphone ever, even outside of the obvious reasons why they'd carry one.

The United States has 307 million people, while Australia has 22 million. Those 22 million are more densely populated than the 307 million in the United States. Imaging the size of the networks in the United States and the costs to upgrade!

Well, Europe - with a larger population and larger land mass than the USA - seems to cope ok as well. The USA do seem very behind in terms of telco and broadcast infrastructure.

The more people that get to use Apple's products the better, but for the record, I couldn't be more happy with AT&T's service and reliability.

Gee, I dunno bout that. I still think he has a massive entourage for everything he does.

And also why would SJ carry anything? These guys carry all his hardware.

T-Mobile in the UK apparently has just changed their definition of "unlimited" from "unlimited as long as you don't use more than 3 GB per month" to "unlimited as long as you don't use more than 500 MB per month".

So I would first want to read the fineprint. And even that won't help you because the fineprint will just contain vague language that can mean anything.

This sounds like the kind of underhanded thing that verizon would pull

SIAP, only made it though half the pages, but I don't see how Sprint and Tmoblie aren't the biggest losers here.

The big boys on the block have the iphone now. I see Sprint and Tmoblie losing more than ATT does in the next 3 years.

Well, why would they? If they dropped the thing and broke it into a zillion pieces I'm sure they could just grab another one off the shelf at HQ within minutes.

Those of us that don't have that luxury or don't have the money to burn like to protect our investments.

I would be VERY surprised if AT&T keeps 5% of it's NYC iPhone customers. Service here is absolutely abysmal. What good is simultaneous voice and data if you can't get either of them?

Look at the distribution of people and size. US is way more dispersed than Europe. Plus our carriers need to service a land mass much larger than just the UK or France, or Germany. It's a different animal that's all.

I haven't even come close to my 2GB limit. "Unlimited Data" seems like more of a marketing tactic to me.

It is. All of Verizon's Unlimited plans have always had lawyer speak limiting the kinds of things you're allowed to do.

In some cases "Unlimited" has meant unlimited email and possibly web page viewing but not downloads or streaming media. In most cases, verizon has always had a 5GB soft cap meaning they throttle your connection after 5GB or they start with the huge fees.

My guess is that in this case, unlimited will be $30 3GB/month with no restrictions (hence unlimited) on what you can do on 3G/EVDO such as downloading rather large mp3s or Apps that AT&T won't let you download on their network. After all, Verizon is very happy if you spend your 3GB a month on the latest update for Nova or downloading a 1GB movie file.

Verizon just dumped their unlimited for tiered structures. I don't think they would plan on backpedaling that act any time soon, even if it is for the iPhone.
