Any update on whether or not they actually implemented this plan?

I was just in the store a week ago and used up my upgrade because of this rumor. The rep in the store said he hadn't heard anything about the plan to kill the loophole. He was really nice, and even offered to work the loophole to our advantage, so I don't think he'd have any incentive to lie.

If they aren't closing it, I think I'll return the phone and get our upgrade back so we can use it on the iphone 6.

Thou shalt not take back phone

Well, this sucks. Not on Verizon, but I'm sure its only a matter of time until at&t follows suite.

Dammit. I loved this loophole. You could get a $650 iPhone 5s for under $600 (spread out over 2 years) if you did it right. And you could do it with multiple lines. It really was free money.

Me too. Until Jan 2012 Rogers in Canada had the same thing. You could upgrade to an iPhone for $199 if you added a data plan, cancel the data plan for $100, then go back to your old plan at any price. Made the iPhone $299 with any voice plan basically. Now they made the cancellation fee the same as the subsidy you have yet to repay, so your iPhone will cost you $719 no matter how you get it, locked or unlocked, any carrier.

Actually I think the 4 and 4S were only $159 at the time so even better.

The contract I signed with my carrier states that I'm locked to them for 2 years of wireless service not 2 years of iphone data plan genius.

So, now it won't say that, right? This isn't going to be a secret, I would hope, to people signing new plans.

I'm not a Verizon customer, so I don't have any stake in this issue. But, I am actually sort of surprised that, previously, if you got the subsidy and then dropped down to a non-smart phone before X amount of time they didn't make you pay back at least some portion of the subsidy.

Well, realistically the subsidy should be part of the monthly line cost and not part of some add on feature.

Correct, these are their new rules.
But with Tmobiles new uncarrier event next week Verizon will most likely change their tune and maybe provide some better plans, more options and cheaper prices.

They already started offering a cheaper single line plan recently.

Never know, this price war thing might get better for all of us:D
I like the way T Mobile is playing it.
They're doing the exact opposite of what the 2 big carriers have been doing for years and people like it. So Verizon and AT&T will have to respond with plans that are somewhat similar to what t mobile is offering.
Looks like T Mobile has more tricks up their sleeve.

But will Best Buy ship iphones?

All the iphones they have currently are not for shipping to the home.

I just saw that. I think it shows up up "Not Shipping" and "Shipping Now" every now and then. It's weird its saying "Not Shipping" when a couple of minutes prior to me posting that Best Buy method works it has the shipping option

Oh well. I'm pretty sure the shipping option will be there when the iPhone 6 releases.

I certainly wouldn't want that to happen. I prefer the recent move to financing programs to clearly delineate the cost of service from the cost of the device.

Well, in case of contract phones that's how it's been done and should still be done. There should be other options of course, as there are more now thankfully.

Boo Verizon.

They saw money wasn't unlimited text voice, it's data. Now this.

I would do the BestBuy trick but I'm impatient and that's also taking that odd ball chance having to argue to get my unlimited back if something stupid happens. I also called two different verizon reps(*611 and local store) and there isn't any way to be on a contract short of changing your plan or doing the old dumb phone trick, thats $720 not including the subsidized price. (To get around throttling).

Again...Booo Verizon!

Throttling me, now I can't upgrade(again) at a subsidized price. I guarantee in 4 more years they'll find some excuse to force you onto a share everything plan. Like iPhone 7 can only be on a share everything plan Bull excuse...

Money grubbers.

Now it specifically said data plan. So I need a data plan maybe I could go onto $5 data plan I'd still be saving but they'll be getting more from me. At the bottom it does say 2gb plan but that is for them to tell the reps to tell us to force you into something that isn't required.(Do it online to switch to $5 plan?)

Hi everyone. I just left verizon and I spoke to 2 people there who have not heard of this rule or notice. I also called customer service and they to have not heard of this. The girl on the phone said how could we charge you data if your not using it.

Has anyone actually heard differently or just going with that picture that has been floating around.

I'm thinking that verizon notice never went into effect
