I don’t see it on my 44mm aluminum watch.

I see it too on the pic above. I think they all have it. My 44mm SBSS has it and my partners 40mm ALU has it also. It’s very very faint, if move it in certain angles it will become more apparent. To me the more you look at it the more it starts to look like a fly screen effect!

I’m beginning to think that may be the case, every watch I’ve seen so far seems to have it (granted that’s only about 5 devices so by no means conclusive evidence). On another note did you get either of your watches on launch day? The only other thing I can think of is that it’s a particular batch with the issue as I know Apple had to use two manufacturers because of demand.

I had a launch model but replaced with a Nike+ model (purely for aesthetic reasons). There were 4 weeks between the manufacture dates and both exhibited the same issue

Yep I see it in that picture, which corroborates the thought that a lot of people just won’t notice it even if they do have it.

I did check my wife’s 40mm SS model a few days back when she first got it - and didn’t see a line, but clearly I’ll have to check again to be sure.

Quite amazing Apple let this happen. I noticed it on my 44mm within about 5 minutes of turning on my S4 44mm.

I’m guessing that’s the reason that this hasn’t become a big thing yet, because it’s very difficult to see until it’s pointed out. I’d be very interested to know if your wife’s 40mm watch has the line because that seems to be the anomaly at the moment. If you do see it on the 40mm maybe it’s software?

Yep let me go grab her Watch now she’s home. Will report back...

Just checked my wife's 40mm SS again. Absolutely no line. Nothing.

So..

I had 3 Nike watches, the first one had the line so I replaced, the second had the line but was a lot more faint though had other issues so had to replace, just got the third and the line is back. It must be the screen Apple is using.

EDIT: These are all 44mm aluminum series 4.

I’m wondering if there’s a 44mm screen that doesn’t exhibit this issue at this point

My partners is a launch day and mine is about a week old. It came with watchOS 5.0.1.

My partners definitely has the line on the 40mm. It’s even harder to see because of the screen size. But definitely there.

I don’t know how it could be software as it is likely the characteristic of these screens, however I do hope I’m wrong.

The only thing that I don’t understand is why it’s in the exact same spot on every screen?

This is where I hold out hope that it’s software. But other than that I have no idea. Don’t know about the previous gen screens, but this gen seems to have a few quirks... this and the bright edge issue (like an lcd issue).

Both of my 44mm had it although the first one was way more visible than the second and it also had a horizontal line about 3/4 the way down just to add to the fun...

Thanks for the info Balders, did you end up sticking with the second one?

Nah, returned it and stuck with the S0 - convinced there’s something not quite right with the S4 displays. Both had the bleed effect too...

Very odd. I’m sure sure sure my wife’s 40mm doesn’t have it. Anyone else have a 40mm without this anomaly?

I see it on my 44m. Very hard to see. Had to do the map app in the dark. I couldn’t find it in your pic until I saw it on my own.

My series 4 has no bleed issues. Otherwise it is perfect.

Guys I posted about this on oct 10.

My first watch I didn’t notice it on. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t there but I wanted a different band so I returned it

My second gold SS had a very distinct line and it was when I turned on torch to look for something that I noticed it. Then when I opened an email with a white pic I saw it.

The replacement has a line but it’s very faint so I’m fine with it.

But I looked at my partners 40ss and she has a line too.

So this means out of 4 watches I’ve seen, at least 3 have it
