Walk into a convenience store and take 5 or 6 candy bars without paying. If you like any of them, come back and give the clerk a couple of buck to show what a good guy you are. After all, you'll "save tons of money", so it must not be stealing. See how that works for you...

Your analogy is invalid. To make it valid, you'd have to compare it with cloning a candy bar, taste it, then pay money to the producer if you liked it enough to finish it.

This is why copyright infringement is unequal to theft.

No but when you go to best buy they have displays and and you can "test drive" and see if that's what you want. and even 30 mins on an app is plenty of time to see if you would like it or if it even works with other apps you already have installed. And with CDs they do let you test them dumb a$$, have you even been in best buy, you can scan a cd and it plays songs from that album and you can decide from that. Great example is qusar, that tweak sucks, it always glitches out and doesn't run with some apps I already have, I had it for no more than 5 mins and uninstalled, not even close to worth 10bucks, that would have been stealing if you ask me. And I'm not saying I have never stolen a song from the internet or downloaded a movie, but I'm saying I wold not have to pirate them if they would give a trial first, I'm fine with paying as long as they work and are actually what im looking for.

what's a pop?

just messing with labman

Maverik3mSo we are comparing test driving a car to test driving a app. besides cars costing thousands vs a few dollars. what ekse can you test drive. besides you are talking maybe a 30 minute test drive max. not weeks or days. Also walk into the lambo, Ferrari or Bugatt even BMW dealer etc. and say you like to go for a test drive. they are going to at least verify yo have the income 1st. go to bestbuy and say you like to test drive a stereo or TV maybe that CD just because the last album was great doesn't mean this one is. your car analogy sucks. ;) but keep telling yourself how moral you are! I bet it lets you sleep better at night.

The key difference there is that those establishments LET YOU TEST THOSE ITEMS, sparkey. If the retailer said you couldn't test them, & you did anyway - guess what? You broke the law, and are getting kicked out or arrested for shoplifting.

Which means that it constitutes a violation of an agreement when you download an app for testing it without paying first - fine, but it belongs under civil law and not criminal law. It certainly still can't compare to driving someone else's car. It is more like cloning a BMW and driving the clone without paying money to BMW for doing so.

This thread is hilarious and disappointing at the same time.
You take something without paying for it...but only for a couple of days.
Then plan to abandon it on the cyber-highway.

And that makes it all OK. Sad !

Those doing this ...
Apply this same scenario to someone taking something you value (oh, but they are only taking it for a day or two)

If someone could make an exact duplicate of my car without actually depriving me of it, I'd be completely okay with them using such a duplicate for a test drive for a few days.

With that said, I don't condone piracy. However, I also generally don't buy any apps on Cydia (only exceptions are tetherme and 3g unrestrictor). I have a very hard time justifying buying an app that I have no guarantee of being able to use (if I have to get my device exchanged for example, I won't have a usable jailbreak in the foreseeable future).

Then I guess I'm a horrible person at heart, I won't lose any sleep over it. But there is nothing wrong with testing something before you buy it.

What's even more "sad" and "disappointing" is GREEDY developers NOT offering any trial period OR a 24-hour REFUND policy for their apps/tweaks.

Name me ANY other place where you are NOT allowed to test/demo the item before you purchase it OR where you are NOT allowed to request a refund (before a certain time) if you not satisfied with the product???

This discussion or "hot topic" is not as one-sided as making it out to be. The developers are just as guilty as the pirates in this situation.

I pirated it for several months as a trial period.. when I got my new iPhone I bought it instead. I did the same for iFile, FolderEnhancer, etc.. does this make me someone to look down upon? This stuff is all way too ambiguous and subjective haha.

Most JB people do it for Installous, while modt apps only cost 99 cents. That proves they got wrong ethics

Pirate pirate and pirate

To be honest, im a pirate, and in my country (albeit illegal) is just a very common thing to do. 90% of people i know never paid single cent to appstore. In my city, i actually dont know any place that sell original pc games. Kids who use ios devices know that to download an app you have to go to app that called installous

Well i use springtomize too.. And you must be know that i use the pirated one..

So im not ashamed of myself, as this is our "culture". If you disagree with me, please kindly downvotes my post

So because you disagree with the way the developers sell their product, it's okay to steal it for a few days? Idiocy.

The proper way to display your displeasure is to boycott the "greedy devs" and deprive them of whatever income they would make - not to steal the intellectual property.

And how do you think manufacturers and engineers would fare if everyone could clone their buddy's car, drive it around for a while, and come pay for one when and if they feel like it?

Apps are a product, and they have a price attached to them that the makers of said product apply. To take them without paying the set price is stealing. There is no justification.

The fact that you may pay for it later, or that it's only for a few days, or that you disagree with the developers not offering a trial period, or that everyone is doing it is irrelivent. If you take something without paying for it, at that exact moment, you are a thief.

Wrong, you're a pirate.

Pirate != a thief.

soda or coke = pop is what we call it at least in my part or the midwest or Michigan any way.

in Canada we also call it Pop, i remember being in Florida and asked for a pop and they didnt know what I was asking for, must be down south they only refer to it as soda

that is true, when I first learned about jailbreaking from someone I asked "well whats the advantage" with the reply being "well the main thing is everything is free even things from the app store"

people in Toronto, sell the ability to get "everything free" on kijiji and charge $30-$50 to do it for illiterate people.....its stupid and obviously developers take a huge loss because these pirates are residing in cities across north america, I see new ad's everywhere everyday on local classifieds.....and the thing is people don't know better either....when these guys charge $30-$50 to do the service the people who are getting it done feel/think they are entitled to it "everything free" because thats how some of these fu*ks explain it to them.

oh and they also charge a smaller fee if person comes back to them during next iOS update......Its mostly done via small booth's/kiosk's at malls across GTA and some even meet people at coffee shops.....I know this because I was looking for a legitimate Gevey Ultra S couple months back in Toronto and this is what I got in return and majority were selling the counterfeit and said if I want the original its gonna cost me $60-$80 (when it costs $40-$60 at applenberry.com....$20 via Battery-Juice who is their certified Distributor..) I ended up saying FU to all n got it from Battery-Juice instead....

Correct - I'm in Atlanta, and we call it "soda". My dad's family in Pittsburgh, PA (go Steelers) call it "pop" almost without exception. All depends on where you live...

My mistake - I thought pirates stole ****. I guess they're actually saints and not thieves...

Are you suddenly talking about the pirates at sea here? Yeah, they stole (and still do), as opposed to duplicating the gold and values. What is your point?
