Funny - but nobody here is talking about Hollywood.

Weren't you the guy who compared stealing candy bars to pirating apps?

BTW, I really enjoyed "Avengers".....so much so, that I'm going to watch my personal burned DVD copy again.

One thing to keep in mind, which the dev tweeted yesterday I think, is that those stats are based on a sample from April 29 through May 7.

Not sure exactly what that means, but it's something to keep in mind. If 9 out of 10 pirated then that's one thing, but is it safe to assume that if 90 more people download it, will the pirated number stay relatively consistent to reach that 92% rate? What about 1,000 downloands? It's just something to keep in mind. This was an extremely small sample size I'm assuming. Definitely a very small window.

It doesn't surprise me, to be honest. Sad, but probably true.

I've never pirated an app in my life - official app or Cydia tweak/app - but I do know a lot of folks who have/do and justify it one way or another.

I no longer jailbreak but I will point out that I probably invested $50 or better in apps/tweaks which are no longer maintained by the author whatsoever. I always figured the Cydia guys would be better about that than regular developers. Not the case. They come and go.

But, as noted by iDownloadBlog, the app has a nearly 92% piracy rate based on just under 200,000 downloads. That means that just 16,000 copies were legitimately sold, while the remaining 184,000 downloads were pirated.

Base on the above figures that meant that there approximately 16,000 copies were legitimately sold, ergo the dude made $47,480 (and probably more to come!)

However if he sold 200,000 legitimate copies then that would have been just under a cool $600,000.

Can understand why he is p!ssed off, could this be a conspiracy conducted by Apple to encourage the jailbreak developers away from the jailbreak scene?!

Sucks that he is missing out on so much more money than the folks that make it possible for him to make any profit at all. This jackass should just be glad he is even able to make any profit from us jailbreakers. I wonder if any of that 600k he could have made would have found it's way to the Devs as a thank you?

Wow... have you ever worked a day in your life? If someone told you that you would continue working your normal hours doing your normal duties, but would only get paid 8% of your normal salary, would you be okay with that?

The circumstances allowing him to sell the app in Cydia are irrelevant. He put a lot of time and effort into creating an app/service, and if people want to use it, they have to pay for it. He has a right to make a point.

It amazes me that the people who are buying electronics from one of the most expensive companies bitch about a $3 app.
