I'm not surprised if they will introduce this bigger screen as "a revolutionairy move in the smartphone world" So until 2012, 3,5 inch was perfect but for some reason, but since september 2012, 4 inch will be the perfect standard, because the hands of people grew in 5 years or something.

Same here. I've expressed my dislike of the new move but after seeing that video I think I could live with it. I'd like to see what websites look in widescreen.

Yep, I'm in the same boat. Concerned at first (though not overly), happy now. In fact I think I'm going to love it.

I'm not often a fan of 16:9-ish screens on non-HDTV consumer devices. I dislike it intensely on the Kindle Fire and other Android tablets, and would rather the iMac revert to 16:10. But I'm loving this, especially after watching MR's excellent video!

So why put that in the article?

Nothing you read or hear is official, please acknowledge that you are on a site called 'MacRumors' first a foremost. When Apple has a keynote, and words come out of the Executives mouths, then it will be official, and fact.

First, MacRumors, congrats on a clean video. Nicely put together and flows really well.

Second, I am excited about the new phone, and OS, but I think that's because I want a new phone and not to be stuck with my current one. The screen size doesn't matter to me, because I'm curious how the OS can utilize it. If they add this space, and then actually do something innovative with it, that would be nice.

I'll be getting it regardless. I just want to be able to play tiny wings without lag.

Who is excited about the next iOS release, raise hands? [everyone raised hands, and the room is full of cheers]

Who is excited about the next Android release, raise hands? [no one raised hands and the room is silent]

Who is excited about the next Windows Phone release?
[A riot breaks out due to the excitement, Microsoft stock rises to astronomical heights]

Everyone is forgetting that wider phones are not very hot in Asian markets. So, the phone was designed to be popular in all markets and not just the west!

I thought what matters is what the consumer wants. If everything was build around what the developers wants then nothing would be sold! Consumers and developers tend not to see eye to eye.
In that same post I said that Android commands a large marketshare. AKA consumers are buying Android phones.

what he should have said is 'get a life' to you. Most people here are looking for apple news and rumors, hence the site name. You are looking for a place to bicker because you like andriod better, but deep down, know that apple destroys it, otherwise you would go about your day like a normal person, or be on andriod rumor sites. Thanks for reading :)

lol!!! :D

i love my apple products but i'd like to see them "fail" just once out of principal to get all those applefreaks off their high horse and to force apple to "revolutionize" again :)

i dont get those Apple is better than Samsung no Samsung is better than Apple crap at all, like 5 year olds.

Ok... not to be sarcastic or nit-picky here, but you both realize there is a difference between the terms "resolution" and "aspect ratio"? What MacRumors posted is not propaganda or false... a 16:9 aspect ratio is 1.778, a 1280x720 resolution is 1.778, a 1136x640 resolution is 1.775... therefore it is almost exactly the same as a 16:9 aspect ratio. Tech terms and math, take note.

It's you who didn't read the text correctly! Perhaps you don't understand the difference between resolution and aspect ratio. MR said (the bolding is mine):

"The new 1136x640 resolution is almost exactly the same 16:9 ratio found on many widescreen monitors and televisions. This will fit many widescreen movies more naturally."

MR is saying that the new resolution produces an aspect ratio similar to the 16:9 ratio seen on HDTVs. Their statement had absolutely nothing to do with 720p display capability.

No, ignorant is not realizing that 720p is also 16:9 which is what the article is saying.

Ummmmm....they were referring to the aspect ratio.....720P is also 16:9. Are you really gonna cry over the screen being a little smaller?

Errr...you realized that this is the exact definition of propaganda?!? Make a statement that is absolutely true and combine it with something else to make an impression.

The sentence is meant to leave you with the perception that the screen is nearly as good as a TV screen. But actually any HD content will look bad on the display due to some weird rendering for the screen resolution (at least a good use for the A6 horsepower).

I realized that MR only talked about the aspect ration nevertheless the author tried to deliver a message about the picture quality being on par with Widescreen TVs and leaving the subliminal message that the screen is as good as those of the competitors...

...which simply is untrue and therefore PROPAGANDA.

And I'm allergic to that stuff. That's why I used so many

I wonder if the scaling of non-native apps will be more in line with the way TVs can scale 4:3 sources by gradually expanding the source rather than just stretching everything the same amount.

Hmmm, that's an interesting thought! A clever scaling algorithm like that is quite feasible without being all that noticeable on such a small screen, I would think.

Andriod is on 4 trillion awful phones that are cheap and sell to any random person that is willing to pay a lesser amount, for a cheaper product. Ergo, they have a higher marketshare (also note they have been available on many different networks forever i think?). Take this into account when saying that, or read this and realize it for the first time.

With your sense of humor and your lack of confidence in your masculinity, I think the Apple community will be pleased to let you go! :D

By the way, why do Android fans spend so much time hanging around Apple forums? Kind of creepy. ;)

my iphone 4S is great for "pocketing" whilst doing physical work (photography), maybe i am too wishful to see AAPL actually negating samsung, patent wars seem to go now-here, and produce a real bigger screen size

"i shall be crucified for this emission"

doesnt make it less of a great device if it fits your needs tho + the iPhone 4S sells for 1€ here just like Android phones

VERY nicely done, Arn and MacRumors team! Apple should run a commercial similar to that once the new iPhone has been announced!

WOW!!! A 4" SCREEN!!!

It's a darn good thing nobody has ever done THAT before!

Thank you Apple for once again pioneering with such revolutionary ideas!

I sure hope Samsung, or HTC, or Nokia, or Motorola, or any of the other major players who already have 4" screens don't attempt to copy this brilliant innovation! Boy oh boy, I'll sure be sorry for them if they do hyuk hyuk!

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
By all rights, Samsung, HTC, Nokia, and Motorola should sue Apple for copying the 4" screen that they all had 2 years ago.

Shouldn't the video on the 4S be shown with black bars at top and bottom rather than cut off on the sides, for a fair comparison?

YES! But you could of course view it this way as well with it cropped on left and right. But for those always preferring to see the entire image, you are correct sir.
