These are MOCKUPS.

The absolute last thing you should be evaluating from mockups are small details like the antenna lines and exact colors.

Design is now lead by two guys, eh? View attachment 641181
I have said this many times. With shows like Big Bang Theory and Silicon Valley popular, do a 70's retro, stoner comedy about the start-up scene in the Valley back when it was counter culture and not trendy.

Perhaps a personal computer company that didn't make it with their stories and adventures getting stoned at a miniature golf park or waking up on a beach in Santa Cruz wondering who's girl wrote her phone number on your arm.

When the first pictures of the iPhone 5 came out, I thought it was a step-back compared to the iPhone 4 design-wise, when looking at the fine details. The iPhone 4's camera hole was aligned with perfect symmetry in mind. Look at how the curve of the camera hole is equidistant from that of the phone's edge. One can tell Steve was very much around at that time. This kind of subtlety is what made Apple what it is (or isn't?) today.

At that time, I thought the iPhone 5's camera hole was somewhat sloppy in comparison.

Man, how much I did not see the slope waiting ahead...

I went from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 6, but was heavily considering switching to the competition when looking at the 6 because I thought the 6's design was awful. But I looked at the competition's devices and just thought they were total **** compared to the iPhone 6 - design and otherwise.

My point is that while I hate the 6's protruding camera, for example, it is CERTAINLY undeniable that the iPhone 6 is more attractive than just about any other phone on the market (the only Android at the moment that I find remotely attractive is the current Huawei Nexus, whatever model name it is.)

It is furthermore simply objective truth that every new iPhone has been improved over the previous model in almost every measurable aspect.

While part of the reason I love Apple's products is because they are on the whole aesthetically pleasing, the fact is that if I'm due for an upgrade and the new iPhone contains a large number of refinements and improvements, I will upgrade to the iPhone every single time. It would be stupid to allow my personal preference to have a thicker phone with a flush camera affect my decision when buying a device that I interact with for hours per day.

That 3.5mm headphone jack on the other hand.......what's the name of that Huawei again?? ;)

It's funny you mention the camera placement as an example because if this leak is accurate then Apple have put the camera BACK in symmetry with the curve of the case.

To be fair, the camera hole on this new design follows the phone's edge just as it did on the iPhone 4.

According to Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs, iPhone R&D prior to his death was 3 release cycles advanced from the currently released model, so Steve Jobs likely played a role in the design of the iPhone 5/5S and possibly the iPhone 6.

Lastly, it is disingenuous to compare a meticulously crafted press photo with a crusty cell phone picture taken in some chap's basement of his dusty phone.

Those white bands on the gold and rose gold are seriously a mess. With all the money Apple has for R&D I can't believe that they can't color match those bands like they do on the silver and space gray. Some design choices I will never understand. I hate to play this card, but these are the type of things that Steve was neurotic about.

Having a similar/almost identical case and removing the headphone jack just feels like soldering the RAM in the Mac Mini and keeping the same shell. It's not like the aesthetics of a beautiful new design dictated this choice.

I dunno, maybe I'm a little bitter.

It doesn't make any sense but they need a new revenue stream and a new wireless headphone contract from a supplier will do just that. Then they can pass on the price to the consumer and profits will tick up. Sometimes it's about innovation, this time it's about dollars.

I could have as well used a press photo but I did not care because that was not my point. I actually love the design of the iPhone 5, btw. I am just implying, it is time that we could use some of that "old" mentality again. I am keeping my hopes up, make no mistake.

I am hoping that the "one more thing" at this iPhone's announcement is the introduction of truly ground-breaking, sleek, well-designed and good-sounding wireless in-ear headphones, whether bundled with the iPhone 7 or only available for separate purchase. Total speculation but the introduction of an exciting product like that would make up for the removal of the headphone jack IMO.

Don't you think they should have made the phone slightly thicker to make the rear flat(to hide the camera bump) + room for bigger battery

I'll be honest with you man, I was totally on board with you until I tried going from holding an iPhone 6/6S in a case to holding an iPhone 5/5S or 4/4S in a case. The thinness of the iPhone 6, protruding camera and all, is really attractive, especially considering that I put a thin case around the back of my phone - which eliminates the camera bulge - every single time.

I feel like I'm the only person who is falling in love with this design. Not my favorite as far as I can tell (iPhone 5 series being my favorite) but it looks better than the 6 to me.

The 6 just looks way more sloppy to me. The camera isn't centered at all, it almost looks like the camera module is straight up sticking out of the phone. This time though, it looks like there is more of a purpose for the camera protruding, with the body coming up with it to protect it.

The antenna lines running across the iPhone 6 and looping around the top just looks awful to me. This looks a bit more subtle and tasteful.

You people are saying the white antenna lines on the rose gold/gold iPhone 7 are too contrasting and look disgusting, but it's exactly the same on the 6 except with much more apparent, obnoxious lines. I don't get it.

This exact same thing happened with the rumors of the 6. People were absolutely disgusted by what they saw leaking from the factory. "EW ANTENNA LINES" "AHH THE CAMERA ISNT EVEN CENTERED" "THE CAMERA IS PROTRUUDINGGG" "IM NOT BUYING THIS IPHONE!! 11!!11!!!!1!" "Steve jobs is rolling in his grave"

But then... they went and bought it anyway. For the most part at least. Then we got threads of "the iPhone 6 is a thing of beauty" etc.

It seems to be just like iOS updates. The latest always sucks for whatever reason with previous versions being superior. Until you get used to it, then all of a sudden it's successor comes out, and now the version that sucked is suddenly wonderful. Strange, isn't it?

Jesus, who would have thought that those white bands can get even more ugly than on the 6/6s just by placing them somewhere else?
I don’t think they have placed them anywhere else. When you think about it all they’ve done is just remove the section between the arrowheads, (that can’t be worse surely?)……

Well during an S update aren't there usually a CPU update (which is happening here), a camera update (which is happening here) and only one other major feature that we often don't know about before the announcement or at least we don't know about in mid-Summer. When did we know about Touch ID for the 5S or did Force Touch for the 6s? So couldn't there still be a major feature left out?

I think we are getting the screen enhancements from the small iPad Pro. So there is that. And that along with CPU, camera, and battery life would be a pretty good upgrade over the 6S and frankly a huge upgrade over the 6. But maybe there is one other thing.

For the 6s, we also got the second generation of Touch ID, which made it much faster (pretty much instant unlocking). But I can't see where else Apple could go with updating Touch ID now as its pretty much instant unlocking with the second generation Touch ID. So I can't see Apple putting the third generation Touch ID in the iPhone 7. I expect next year will be the big update with Touch ID, perhaps embedded into the screen, like what's been mentioned in the past.
