there is no way

Being an x-apple employee I can asure you there would never be a blunder like that in any Apple store the manager (wellpaid) would not want to lose his job.
Damn straight!

Way to deliver, applemax. Well done!

I just don't think it's in Apple's style. It seems too shoddily designed to be the centerpiece for such a waited for product. The mini-dock connector and the hole below it... It all seemed like something a 3rd party would manufacture, not Apple.

That said, there's no reason it's not for the ApplePhone. That mini dock connector is very suggestive. If there's nothing on it, and they're saying they can't tell you what is going to sit on it... I think that means something. It could be that there's a new ipod coming and this thing is a giant dock/speaker/ambient light for it... who knows.

This is very interesting, you'll have to update us with whatever it is that sits on it after MWSF. Good detective work, pal.

ya, it does seem possibly 3rd-party-ish.

Also, I'm still not clear on how official an Apple store this is?

On Page 2 now though, because it is all very interesting. :)

Good job. Could you possibly steal it to prove it? I think that is the only way people on MR would believe you.

I have to agree with the 3rd party idea, if iPhone, would be larger display.

If you consult the drawings in post #1, there was a big iChat icon on the front of the stand, supposedly to show it was for some form of new Apple device. There is no logo at all on that stand and now the consensus is it's unlikely to be for an Apple product at all. The original cynics in the thread have therefore been proved right as far as I can see.

The thread should have been titled "Pink illuminated stand spotted at Apple reseller - Next to iPod accessories ", but that doesn't quite have the same ring to it for building hype.

Looking at this from the American Apple stores, one podium would be totally insufficient for such a highly anticipated product like the iPhone. There'd be a dozen people crowded around that little podium at any given time. Then again, maybe the UAE stores aren't as popular. I'd guess its third party.

This is how the lead up to MWSF should be! Even if this is some 3rd party product its always exciting to have the blurry photos/videos before an apple event!

ill be posting my scoops from the the glasgow apple store tomorrow....oh ****, its not built yet...oh well, ill just have to find an elevator....but they will still be real!!

this is about the level that these overly eager videos and pics get to...

i want my iHome now!!!!

I don't think it's an iPhone display because I really doubt Apple would have the stand glowing pink. What size was the dock connector? Would it fit any current iPods?

As someone has said, but most people have ignored:

THIS IS NOT AN APPLE STORE.

Apple stores exist in four and only four countries, as http://www.apple.com/retail/storelist/ indicates.

Apple authorized resellers, which are owned and operated by third parties, exist all over the place. At best, this store is one of these.

So the folks managing this store have very little to do with Apple, and they could probably put anything any plastic display case they want on their floor.

Absolutely nothing can be gleaned by this.

AppleMax, will you still be in Adu Dhabi after Steve's keynote? If so, it would be interesting to get a follow-up on this stand/connector in case we don't end up seeing a similar stand here in the states.

Hey I was in Japan a few weeks ago and I saw a strange dock connector like that in the (official) apple store in Tokyo. Can't remember what it was hooked up to though. It caught my eye cos it didn't look 'Apple' if you catch my drift.

Hmmm

Not exactly. Yes, bona fide Apple Stores only operate in a few countries. However, in some areas (i.e. Korea and, I believe, the Middle East), Apple gets certain other companies to run their operations. These stores have more of an Apple Store-like air to them than, say, Bob's Computer Shop-- an authorized Apple Reseller. The store in Seoul, for instance, has a small theater for showing keynotes and running training sessions and the employees walk around in black Apple T-shirts and iPods.

Just thought I'd point that out.

The dock connector looks similar to my 3rd party ipod charger dock connector.
