Sounds pretty fat to me...

ahh gosh tooo much ipods. i would love a video ipod but. yeah. apple stop. it looks like each month or every two months something gets upgraded. . but yeah its kool.

I also want games. I refuse to buy fascist gear for dumb people with region locks and which prohibits you from making your own programs (Sony PSP).

This attitude from Sony really motivates me to buy NOTHING from them.

Going on the basis of what I've read about the (supposed) specs, this is a visual rendition that I made. Note that in "movie-mode" the numbers for 'time-played' and 'time-remaining' should only appear when using the click-wheel to scroll, pause, etc. The main advantage in normal "music-mode" would be full display of large artwork, and the possibility that the entire album-name will fit into the three-line view. Nice for people like me who use their iPods as desktop-jukeboxes as well... As for actual viewing on the screen.... probably possible, and if you don't mind, then sure. I think that a video-out with RCA (a la iPod Photo cable and special dock) would be necessary for this to be a success.

Hey no offence but this looks ugly. Apple will NEVER make something like this. Read the original post: almost NO change in form-factor from 60 gig iPod, just a few milimeters thinner

Powerbooks would be much appreciated and sweeet. (HD screen + GRPHX card that can decode H.264 HD encoded content on the fly)
But an iPod Video - AWESOME!

To clarify, I'm not worried about the screen. I'll propably wont see anything major on that anyway.
But to connect it a TV or projector is the thing!
Lacie has something like this: http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10481
But it lacks the screen AND THE BATTERY that an iPod Video would have and that's why the iPod is better and would sell.

The only thing that you would carry with you is a thin cable connector and while travelling: a charger for the iPod (the standard USB2/Firewire stuff).

Introducing the new iPod movie.

Here it is.

This is how I vidialise it looking, based on the nano design.

According to AppleInsider, Apple is prepared to launch a video-capable version of the iPod in the coming weeks, possibly as soon as the scheduled October 12th media event.

The new iPod is expected to be a similar form factor as the present 60 GB iPod, although several millimeters thinner. It is expected to have a smaller click-wheel as found on the iPod nano, making way for a larger high-resolution color display than the current full-size iPod offering.

A major iTunes update is expected with the release as well, containing a significant number of downloadable music videos and other short movie content.

How wierd is that, I didn't look at the other posts and it looks like others have already done it....I even used the same screen shot of Cars...spooky!

As long as Apple uses a "widescreen" shape for the screen and uses the 60 and 80 gb hitachi hard drives, they should have no problem importing and playing big h.264 movies on the iPod video and linking those videos up to a television. I just hope it's compatible with mp4 from digital cameras as well as dv and other video formats. The renderings a few people have made are awesome. Thanks!

iPod Video

Heres just a little fact to prove music videos on iPod Movie.

When is the last time Apple updated the Music Videos section, other than for an ad?

The answer is October, 2 months ago.

I hope Death Cab for Cutie's Soul Meets Body is available soon, i miss it.

Nice calendar.. hope you got a good price on it.

I also have to question just what you think constitutes proof.. I pray you never wind up on a jury. Lots of people want a video iPod. Liots of people do NOT want a video iPod. After the 12th, whichever camp is correct, they will immediately start quoting all sorts of things from the recent past that "were obviously" proof to "anyone with a brain" that the factual eventuality was the only possibility.

It's human nature to project your desires on others. If *you* want a video iPod, then everyone presumably must want one, or need one, and it somehow becomes your mission to show them the error in their thinking. The same is of course true for the other side. The earlier link to the original iPod thread should be required reading for anyone wanting to post in ANY thread about a rumored product.

Do you think Apple insider is using Macrumors as a source :)

I was right about the nano. If the iPod Video launches next Tuesday having the form factor I announced.. do I still have to be a newbie?

It's ok. I can deal with it. Only a thousand meaningless posts to go.
Well, the date was out for most of us, (I went along with your date of the 7th), but I would say that everything else is going to plan. Rumours of Video out for airport sounds like it coudl tie in with the iPod AV, but perhaps this is one feature to far and we will just get steaming from Macs instead.

Either way, Roll on next Wednesday.

I don't think there will be a click wheel on a video iPod, it won't look right.
I think they'll replace it unfort with some sort of click slider sensor thingymajig.

This would fit under Widescreen.

But then again, I bet they'll keep the same screen orientation that is in current iPod's. Like on Mobile Phones, would be annoying tho, everything would have to be panned and scanned.

Having a rotating click wheel would make moving between portrait and landscape easy (for left hand users too)

Absolutely. Apple has made it clear that they don't believe in a computer in the living room. But they never said any such thing about an iPod (remote?) and/or an Airport Express that can handle A/V. We'll see. Could be very interesting. Lots of possibilities.

Not to be a broken record, but as each day passes it becomes clear to me that Apple doesn't care about a computer ANYWHERE. All this iPod garbage just puts me to sleep. I thought as Mac users we were finally going to make some headway into the computing mainstream (access to ALL web content for one thing) but what kind of message does this TOTAL focus on iPods send to the rest of the computing world? There is nothing that Apple or anyone else can do with an iPod/mp3 player/phone that makes it anything but a frivilous purchase.

IMHO, of course

12th October is my wifes birthday and what does she want... an Ipod, when did I buy one for her.....late last night.....so do I cancel it to see what comes out but then have to tell her she's got to wait for her present or just leave it as she probably doesn't want video anyway

If they're busy working on the whole intel change over they surely need to focus on something to keep revenues up don't they? Ready for when they ship the new kit and really reap that ipod halo they keep talking about...

I'm a newbie and enthusiastic, don't burst my bubble yet.

Erm, your quote made no sense and the picture doesn't look good. So much wasted space and a regular square screen.

Imagine this!

It's late Sunday evening, your bored, your not tired. Blockbuster closed at 11. You go on the iMovie Video Store and download a film.

Absolutely perfect.

And as for people saying having video on an iPod would be daft because you can't jog while watching a video.

What about watching on the train?

What about watching a program on your lunch break?

What about that really silly film you made in college that you want to show people?

It's late Sunday evening, Blockbuster is closed, you start to download your favorite DVD movie to play on your widescreen projection TV,....,.....,.....

It's Monday afternoon, your download finishes with a satisfying alert signal, part of your download was lost due to an interuption in your internet service, your DVD is corrupted. PERFECT!

Ever heard of a laptop or a portable DVD player both of which are much better solutions for watching than a 2-3" inch weak backlit display.
