Anything is better than what they with iPhone now. The little rubber rings wear out quickly and turn the hard edges into ear cutting devices.

I can't fathom why Apple has not been able to put out a decent quality set of earphones in all this time. You'd think that a company that cares about quality would deliver something exceptional.

One would assume, that the company that changed the face of the music industry with their product would actually make top-notch and reference like products when it comes to the sound quality. Neither their earbuds and in-ears are anything to talk about nor is the hardware implementation for sounds reproduction. Mediocre amps, missing personal equalizer, no digital out, too few codecs supported, ...need I go on?
They could do so much more if they cared, but customers seems to be ok with the good enough sound quality their iPod hardware provides...

Cool headphones, but they look flat, seems like it would be an odd fit.

It seems that perfect earbuds just doesn't exist. I also own the praised Klipsch in-ears but honestly speaking those have quite crappy sound quality. Combined with the uncomfortable feeling I get wearing in-ears, I cannot say I love those.

Well Apple is trying something new.. And can it really be much worse than the current ones, so I guess I'm excited to test these out.

Thought these were Cookie Monster eyes at first glance! Anyway, what's with the openings on the side of the earbuds? (You have to watch the video to see this--you can't see them in the picture only the front opening which I assume is the actual "loudspeaker" part.)

I also thought I saw eyes when I first saw the picture lol. Anyway, those headphones look even more uncomfortable than the current ones Apple includes. Save your ears the pain and buy some decent ones :p

I think its fair to say that like their predecessors will end up in the bin. Apple should really work with the likes of Klipsch to get their headphone design to a state where they are comfortable to wear.
Yes, forcing the customer to pay a lot on better, more expensive headphones they might not even like will probably stop the complains. Right.
You know, if you are unhappy with these headphones, buy different ones like everyone else does who cares. That's why headphones and music player are still two separate devices. You will notice, it makes a lot of sense that Apple does not invest much in their standard headphones.

While I'd love to see Apple reveal something completely unlike the leaked parts, I think the leaks demonstrate how laughable Cook's comment was. Perhaps he should have added the qualification, "Except the iPhone."

However I would not put it past Apple to seed fake 'new 'x'' parts just to throw off people... I'll believe these when I see them. They look uncomfortable and lacking of anything that could even come close to reproducing bass sounds.

And I for one am still waiting for the 'New Apple Bluetooth Earpiece'. Their first attempt ROCKED. It was probably so good that the other posers threatened Apple if they didn't kill it.

I bet they're still crap. First thing I do is throw away the Apple headphones and buy a decent pair.

What I have loved from day one was the buds with the foam covers. They stay in, and do attenuate outside sounds slightly. Staying in is the key... Belkin put them out in colors too. I still have some original Apple covers somewhere.

In-ear buds don't stay in my ears because of the shape of my ear canal. So far nothing has worked well. Even the yurbuds are hard to keep in.

That's pretty stupid. If you intend to sell it later, you'd want all the original bits that came with it.

"If that's the way the new headphones look like, I am going with the One X! They give you Beats! Whaaaaaa!" - Whiney MacRumor poster

:D

They dont even give you Beats headphones with the standard one x

I have real hassle with in ear phones falling out of my ear if the buds are not right, it looks like this is what will happen with these. These look really weird, what is with the bit on the side? I am guessing these are bluetooth?

If they were bluetooth they wouldn't be wired.

The theories are

Bass
Noise cancelling
It's the mic, which is not on the cable.

The lack of a remote makes me question if these are real.

My non-techie friends are clueless unless I tell them.

You're missing one MAJOR detail. IF Apple was so concerned about the secrecy where these parts leaks are concerned, they'd simply send a take down request and follow it up with a C&D if it was ignored. This proves in my mind that Cook clearly wasn't referring to parts leaks when he made that statement.

And every time they do that it leaks out and is considered confirmation of whatever was leaked

If they have a better feel and sound quality than the old ones I'd like Apple to sell them. Not sure if they look very comfortable though.

EDIT: Doesn't Apple have everything assembled in China? It says Vietnam on this one, which makes me think it may not be the real deal.

They don't cause the pain of the old earbuds? Those are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. It's just to bad they sound terrible.
