My non-techie friends are clueless unless I tell them.

You're missing one MAJOR detail. IF Apple was so concerned about the secrecy where these parts leaks are concerned, they'd simply send a take down request and follow it up with a C&D if it was ignored. This proves in my mind that Cook clearly wasn't referring to parts leaks when he made that statement.

This is getting off topic, but I don't see how a C&D letter to a random website in Asia would accomplish much. Assuming they actually follow it, they'd just post the photos and videos to a different site. As for vids on YouTube, that'd be a tacit admission that the parts are real (as pointed out above). By the way, aren't you also making a leap of faith in assuming Cook doesn't care about parts leaks?

As for the headphones, yes you can make a loudspeaker without a vent port. That design can have very accurate sound reproduction, but it's not terribly efficient. The driver isn't pulling on a vacuum, just slightly rarefied air.

If apple sends C&D letters then it proves the legitimacy of the Leak. Not saying anything at all makes it more mysterious as to what the product is...

I think Apple learned their lesson on the iPhone 3... Pictures leaked, they were removed because of a C&D letter and everyone went... "Aha! This must be the one..."

And it was.

I don't know how often they've C&D'd since... Because otherwise they'd have to C&D every single "leaked picture"

Semi departure from previous design. I wonder if there will be a perceived/real benefit in design changes?

Kind of like the design changes of the Sennheiser IE 800. Form meeting function.

I was thinking more along the lines of the major sites like MR. And agreed, saying he doesn't care at all would be an overstatement. But I still think those saying he was referring to parts leaks are at the very least making an assumption and I believe an incorrect one. Either way, the parroting of that statement repeatedly in every parts leak thread is childish at the very least. Say it once or twice, but it's old at this point.

Good point on the vacuum, it's not like they remove the air.

If the screen size change isn't enough... this surely is.

Time to invest in Apple. This will push the stock to over 1000 dollars guaranteed. i wasn't sold on the iphone til i saw this.

They don't really look comfortable, but I'll have to wait and see. I just hope they actually function as headphones instead of public address speakers as the current 'headphones' do.

Wow, I hadn't even thought they may do that... But that's great news! The current ones do start hurting the inside of my ear quite a bit after wearing them for too long... Hopefully it's not only a design bump up, but a sound quality one as well...

Interesting.. though nothing beats in-ear for quality.

Much prefer my Bose QC15s, which are over-ear type. Others prefer them too - since the sound doesn't leak out of them for the the displeasure of others.

That was the worst thing of the standard iPhone/iPod style headphones - people would crank the volume to block out ambient noises and then everyone else in the room, bus or carriage would hear the music too.

I hope the new ones solve that issue and are more comfortable. The old ones weren't for me.

Existing iPhone headphones = garbage

The existing headphones sound terrible and don't fit the human ear. In ear headphones seem to work. We are curious to see if apple will stick with these headphones for over a decade even if they are crap - curious in the same way one wonders how bad the rotten milk will smell.

I agree.

Secrecy for a company like Apple is a very big deal. But that does not necessarily mean eliminating parts leaks (which is difficult to do anyway)

It's no secret that Apple will be making another iPhone. Come on... the iPhone is Apple's #1 product... they will be making iPhones for the rest of our lives.

So I think Tim Cook was referring to secrecy of completely NEW products... stuff that they've NEVER made before.

It takes him a long time to say that small paragraph. Is vietnamese long winded, or is there more to it?

There was never an iPhone called iPhone 3. Neither was there an iPhone 2. Let me put it down for you:

iPhone 1 - "iPhone"
iPhone 2 - "iPhone 3G"
iPhone 3 - "iPhone 3GS"
iPhone 4 - "iPhone 4"
iPhone 5 - "iPhone 4S"
iPhone 6 - ?? (Probably just gonna be called "the new iPhone")

But I agree to the fact that "iPhone 5" has gained a certain recognition value by now and for all I care, let's call it iPhone 5 until it comes out. The actual name won't be iPhone 5, I'm sure about that.

If the want to properly represent it, i would call it the iPhone 4L. Brought to you by iSue. ;)

I wonder if it'll be better than ever? Never heard music so clearly before? Eartina sound quality??

Please tell me that I'm not the only audiophile that has seen this thread.... MACRUMOR WRITER PLEASE NOTE!!! DISCREDIT!!
Haven't any of you, while looking at the headphones noticed.....
THE L & R ARE ON THE WRONG BUDS!!!
HOW AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS NOTICED THIS?!?!?!

Seriously... look at the buds.... forget the letters...
now think... how would you put them in your ear.... with the big opening pointing down your ear canal.... so why is it the the bud with the "R" would have the hole pointing forward when you put it in your right ear??

And don't say it will go over the top of the ear, the armature of the buds are FAR too long for that.

these are correct, the speaker points forward to your ear canal... I'm thinking you use headphones wrong....

The apparent vents on the side are interesting. I'd be willing to bet they enhance the acoustics. However, they could be a safety feature (preventing lawsuits when the current generation all go deaf from banging their eardrums to the point of cochlear destruction). Also, wouldn't it be great if those vents were actually mics for active noise cancelation without needing a separate power source other than the audio out? Or perhaps all 3 possibilities combined?

doesn't matter how many times they redesign their buds...it's still gonna sound like garbage.
