This is very nice incremental update. As others have said, the speed and performance increase is quite noticeable, especially on my iPhone 5. I'm going to keep an eye on battery performance as well.

I've been a big fan of iOS7 from day one and it just keeps getting better.

Android trolls...go away!

Not a fan of the new GUI updates and overall underwhelmed. I think I'm going to skip this one.

why exactly do people say this? as if updating is some arduous task that requires some kind of sacrifice, rather than just a few minutes of letting your phone do its thing and then being done with it until the next update.

unless you are jailbroken, there is literally no reason not to update to a more stable and refined operating system.

Apples really scrapping the barrel with this one....

All these 'little 'special' additions ? While a nice touch, does it really make the phone look better ? I mean your about to switch if off anyway, who cares what the slider does while it gradually fades to black..

It only gives "second guess" as to while you hold your finger down you say"oh,,, on second thought, i'd rather keep it on."

ok , could be useful. icons, bars etc.. ? lol oh my god..

Yes please, I want all of it changed....... strip out off those 'special effects' not just a reduction being half way..:p

Caller's Photo

Have you noticed since iOS 7.1, when a caller's photo is in contacts, it now appears in just the upper right corner of the screen?

I wonder about this change ...

I'm digging it!

The optimist in me has been treating 7.0 like 1.0. To me, this .1 is way more significant than all the dismissers are implying on this and the other MR threads from today.

My biggest 7.0 UI gripe that was difficult to adjust to, and a huge step back, was the page that came up when you were on a call, and getting an incoming call, and had the options of Answer/Hold Current Call or Answer/End Current Call. Taking the second call required reading the fine print, since both buttons had a matching ANSWER line, and the difference between the two buttons, in fine, smaller print, was that one said End Current Call and the other said Hold Current Call! Every time, I felt stuck while reading my options; and, acting hurriedly, I still made mistakes with my callers. This design received a huge update in 7.1! The new design is fast. I've attached an image.

My second UI gripe is blurring out the page you're on when using Siri. With V.1 Siri, I used to voice input info I was reading off the screen, like phone numbers or addresses, by triggering Siri and reading the screen at the same time. The blurred screen of iOS 7 filled with "What can I help you with?" killed that efficient little trick. I'd love to see that blur go away! After all, I know what Siri is there to do and don't need the text to remind me each time when compared to the "value" of referencing new info from the iPhone's screen for use with Siri.

where on earth did you read that iOS 7.1 was going to make a wide departure from its normal, clone-inspiring self?

also, if you hate it so much, why are you here reading about it? i cant imagine reading about things i hated, it would be a miserable life of anger & resentment. unless i was being forced to...is that it? is somebody forcing you to read about things you dont like? who is this person? how can we help you free yourself?
Lol... the laughing hurts. >_>

They need to bring back swipe to delete a music album in its entirety. Song-by-song is so tedious!

I can no longer sync over wifi with iTunes and I can no longer charge my iPhone with my Belkin charger. why?

Um...

Behold... iOS is now customizable. LOL. That was a joke. Android FTW. Apple is too slow and the changes so minor.

If you're waiting for Apple to make their OS completely customizable so you can make it look like Miley Cyrus in a blender, you probably want to just stick with Android. As for the rest of us, we like things to look nice.

change to timer app

I am happy to report that the scrolling minute list in the Timer app has been tweaked to be more responsive to starting and stopping. I use this app a lot, and was quite unhappy with how the previously precise action of iOS6 had been changed to a very sloppy, imprecise action in iOS7.
Now, when you tap the scrolling minute wheel to select a minute value, the wheel immediately stops and your number is selected. As I said, previously in iOS7, this wheel did not stop advancing immediately upon tap, resulting in a imprecise feel to the control. Yay.:apple:

I'm not overwhelmed by the update, but I'm happy with it. I like the changes to the phone calling and receiving especially. It's a neat little update.

Remove.

Much of this video is highly inaccurate and based off a beta build....This post should be removed.

Well, to be fair, while it's based off the latest beta and a few things are wrong (some quite obviously so), most of it is right and applicable.

Preferred the previous long "End Call" button. Apple seems to have a thing about round buttons. I think they just make it look like a toy rather than a serious bit of kit.

I'm most grateful for the speed increases on the 4 for my wife. And love some of the other U/I tweaks to expose the buttons more. For buttons as text only was hard to get use to. Seemed you always had to look twice to find the button. Not a huge update, but some nice things for sure.

What a poor explanation of Darken Colors setting in Accessibility--didn't even explain what it actually does (darken the link/button text colors) and implied it does something it doesn't do at all (darken all colors in general, like on the home page, etc.).
Thank you! Finally I understand what the option does. At first I didn't notice any change at all with the option enabled: I was focusing on the wrong things.

Couldn't Agree More

Ok, I watched the IOS 7.1 changes vid and thought - what great material for a Second City TV or Saturday Night Live skit. Is it me or is Apple floundering?

Seems the only thing Tim Cook knows how to do is increase price point and profit margin. He’s diluted the brand by adding S to everything so that nobody wants to buy anything because in 3-6 months and ’S’ will be released that has all the features the original product should have had to begin with. I’m not going to harp on the Tim Cook bash but he’d do well to stop releasing stuff and innovate more often. It used to be that when MacWorld came up, we all braced ourselves for the many Apple innovations. Then, Tim Cook persuaded the profit mantra ideal and Apple broke from the structured (and nightmarish) massive release at MacWorld. I think a compromise between the two extremes would be prudent. Is it me or do other Apple fans feel that it seems like when Steve Jobs was fired from Apple and we’re just waiting for him to return?

Don’t get me wrong, I think Tim Cook brings a lot to the table. But more and more it seems Mr. Cook is bringing commercialism to the table: 1) iTunes has gotten so far from pleasing the user experience and headed towards commercialism and bribing the user into making a purchase, 2) the products tempt you with innovation but in reality they are programmed to make you spend $$$ every 6 months, 3) the innovations in apps force you to purchase from iTunes to share the sale with Apple, 4) Mac’s have almost ceased to exist in innovation because of their lower profit margin, 5) there’s been no design changes of any major degree since Job’s passing, 6) probably something I can’t think of

So, if you read this Tim Cook - we are NOT that dumb to foolishly spend $$ for a tiny bit of change over and over. That’s what Gates did with Windows :O

I love Apple products but the excitement is dissipating with each release. It's such a shame from an organisation that pioneered customer design and experience. I understand that major changes are taking place under the hood but surely Apple could provide its loyal base with features beyond coloured icons, caps lock and calendar events after such long release cycle times...really....is this the best they can offer us? And yet, we create videos and blogs to celebrate such features?

Disabling Parallax won't completely disable it. The background won't move but the icons will. Anyone else with this problem?

I thought you were crazy, but yes. The icons move very slightly if you have Reduce Motion turned off and your background picture set to not use perspective.

I actually like it; seems much more subtle and appropriate. In this way, the background is asserted as a frame of reference and the icons sit lightly atop that.
