Going on 4 months with my Nexus One and haven't looked back once.

Going on 7 months with my Motorola Droid and I am also very happy. I know there are some iPhone fans here that will try to scare you and persuade you that Android is some big scary hard to use OS. It's not. It's easy to use and very intuitive. If you can use an iPhone you can use an Android phone.

I looked at a new Droid X today. It's a great looking phone and I bet you can hold it any way you want and still get a great signal.:)

Try an Android device for a few days. You will come running back.

I thought the Android worked great on the new Samsung i messed with today. Some very cool features on that phone. Swype is freaking awesome. Voice to text was a kick and worked great. No misspells at all. Typing normally was easier imo. I dont know what the older Androids had for firmware, but the 2.1 worked well on that Galaxy and they say 2.2 is coming end of this month for those phones.

T-Mobile release was today. AT&T version comes out the 18th. Word is they have sold 1 million of those phones. Of course that is world wide so far.

Android is perfectly fine. I don't know what anyone is really getting at when they say the phone lacks polish.

1.) Do not compare the iphone again to the droid x or vice versa. the droid x is not android (in the sense of what its supposed to be). it's a crap moto skinned bloatware junker.

2.) Android is inherently different to use than iphone. menu, back, and search offer a different in-app experience. this isn't a one button wonder.

3.) if a phone is only as good as it's "fade-in"/"fade-out" transitions (i'm guessing that's what we're referring to when we keep saying polished), then... well you can see why that's stupid.

I am actively seeking an ipad & an android tablet and I exclusively use os x. I will never say the platform as a whole is bad.

iphone 4 is the single nicest looking piece of hardware on the market and iOS is fantastic; but do not tread on android because it isn't "polished". people keep dropping that phrase and it honestly makes them sound like idiots.

No need for violence, just....go.

The Droid isn't a bad phone. It has some issues just like the iPhone. Mysteriously turning on silence mode for no reason at all, for example. So many of the apps end up conflicting with one another. The camera is pretty bad relative to the i4 (we have both in our household). Its not a bad phone though and the Verizon network is really, really good relative to AT&T. The screen, while it was good, really looks washed out in comparison to my i4.

But overall, the polish you normally expect from the Apple iPhone is just totally absent from the Android phones. Everything works, for the most part. The Droid is like dating a fat girl. She can be kinda fun when its just the two of you alone. But you don't really want to take her out in public as much.

I looked at one too. Man that phone is HUGE!! Too big imo but it looks nicer than the old Droid.

Wow, did you not read what was said? I did get rid of the iPhone 4, and about to get rid of the iPhone 3g because it's slow. I know I have choices, and my choices are frustrating. It's either buy another iPhone 4 and deal with the reception issue, or go over to a less exciting android platform and 2nd par hardware and lose everything I've invested in the iTunes app store.

Or you could get a 3Gs. I hear the 4 isn't that much faster so you might still see a good increase in speed. And you won't pay quite as much either.

If speed is the only reason you want to upgrade, the 3Gs might be a good one for you. Even better you could find one used and you won't even be stuck resigning a new contract :).

QFT, nothing wrong with android but ios is too good.

In what way it better an android a part from the app store? It's probably more simple to use ( ios) but again if you have a few brain cells then android is just fine. Android is also a lot more open, you can change the entire ui if you want, got widgets, apps that can play most video codecs etc

It's a really good os now android.

Apparently you are, because no where in that letter do they acknowledge theres a problem with the iPhone 4 antenna design/reception issue. For anyone who thinks otherwise, you should lay off the Apple Koolaid.
Koolaid? Ah, the other rebuttal of a failed debater, the prime one being accusing the opponent of being a fanboy.

I thought about it, but I really want that 512MB of RAM and 720p recording in the latest models of smartphones out in the market.

I'd highly recommend the HTC Incredible on Verizon. Its great to have coverage again, 3G everywhere. Android isn't as polished as iOS. The hardware isn't as well built. But Android is very good and has a number of features that are superior to iOS4. Use it for a while with an open mind. After a month, the thought of going back to an iPhone feels like going back to a limited appliance. The openness of Android can cause problems, but also opens up more opportunities to be useful. It does feel more like a PC (or Mac) rather than a special purpose appliance. And its great that the phone works well and I never drop a call. Complete opposite of my experience with AT&T.

Other good recent phones include the Droid X if you can deal with how big it is, HTC EVO on Sprint if you can stand Sprint. Samsung Galaxy S I tried today. Looks like a very nice phone, nice size, very capable. Coming to T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and eventually Sprint. Don't ignore the HTC Incredible on Verizon. Its compact and very powerful.

Go and get an Android then, You will be back to the iPhone in less than 3 months.

Funny, a lot of Android users are former iPhone jailbreakers. There is so much more freedom on the Android OS than iOS. Guess that, there are over 100,000 apps in the Market Place already. That figure was 50,000 only three months ago. While iOS is not bad, Android is more than a competent platform.

why don't you point out where in that letter where Apple acknowledges there's a reception issue with the new iPhone 4 for all of us.

The best part about Samsung Captivate is it is $350 even without the contract.

ATT Twitter

@espectr0 Hi there... The Captivate will cost $349.99 without a contract.

Although, this one person on HardOCP forum got it for $300 non contract at an official ATT store.

Look at the first reply from TexUs. He also posted his receipt in the previous page.

Yep, official ATT store... $299.

I just rooted this sucker, too. I can confirm root works I guess (though I haven't figured out how to remove the ATT pre-installed stuff yet). I rooted it and got no errors at least.

After okaying with/seeing the EVO in person today I am DEFINITELY staying with Apple and the iPhone. Android STILL isn't up to par yet, even with an app store of it's own.

Why are you being so hostile? It's your choice, but your speaking to a bunch of Apple fanatics. What are you expecting? I don't really see how apple has "violently pushed" you towards Android, especially when they'll be addressing the issues tomorrow, but regardless, if you want to make the switch then go for it. But, don't expect many people on here to support you or be convinced by your OP.

100,000 bad apps is nothing to brag about

Gosh, if it bothers you that much, just switch already. If you think that's more equitable than just getting a case or a bumper for the phone, that's your call.

No-one's forcing you to buy any phone. No need to get your panties all up in a bunch.

But then, its about not the money, but rather, its the principle of the matter for you, isn't it? Don't worry. It'll all work itself out in the end...

Oh well... Enjoy the rest of your day!

PhoneI said:

Actually 70,000 bad apps according to Google's earning's report today :D

I checked out the Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S), which wasn't too bad. I would get that if I was on T-Mo.

LOL. and how many fart apps are there in the app store?

Why do all Android users always fight back with this exact argument? Fart apps? The iTunes App Store is the most widely developed and extensive on a mobile platform. There's no argument. While Android has a few advantages, the iPhone shines in this arena.

I already did. But if it's not spelled out explicitly enough for you then there's no sense in continuing this argument. I think they've acknowledged it; you don't. The End.

"To start with, gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4..."

how convenient for you to take the quote out of context, here is the full quote.

"To start with, gripping almost any mobile phone in certain ways will reduce its reception by 1 or more bars. This is true of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, as well as many Droid, Nokia and RIM phones. But some users have reported that iPhone 4 can drop 4 or 5 bars when tightly held in a way which covers the black strip in the lower left corner of the metal band. This is a far bigger drop than normal, and as a result some have accused the iPhone 4 of having a faulty antenna design."

Apple basically said gripping 'ANY' phone will cause the lost of 1-2 bars. Then never acknowledge that gripping the iPhone 4 will cause reception/transmission issue grind to a halt.

If you read the conclusion of the letter, they clearly state there is nothing wrong with the reception issue... here, quote it for your benefit.

"We have gone back to our labs and retested everything, and the results are the same— the iPhone 4’s wireless performance is the best we have ever shipped."
