I see it exactly the same as redman042's post above. If you do a slow shot even though you keep moving your finger it simply moves the camera. Its really hard to do a gentle shot now, I just tend to hit them hard everytime so I can avoid the hassles I get if I go for a soft shot and the app thinks I have changed my mind.

OK, it sounds like the touchscreen is sending a 'touches end' while you are still moving forward. At one time I look at trying to filter out any quick stop/starts. Maybe I will try that again.

One other thing that should help. You should be able to put a little draw on the shot to hold the cue ball and still hit it with speed. If the cut is to the right, the place the cue a little left and below center... not a lot, just below center. I really don't hit too many easy shots, rather just use spin to get the cue ball where I want it. Hope that helps.

Suggestion for practice mode:
Put a few balls on the table wherever you want with the ability to move the balls around after each shot. This way we can practice doing trick shots and other set shots.

How about an option to have a transparent virtual cue & ball on the side of the screen, say, with that side of the screen inactive from anything else, other than stroking the cue?
It could take up minimal space, say, one landscape keyboard key's width, possibly user defined as to what side it's on.
That way, all the problems are eliminated.
If that's too much to implement, how about using a little Multi-Touch, and having a 'Shot' button on the screen, to act just as the 'S' key does on the PC version. Whilst the shot button is pressed, all you can do is shoot. :D

I really don't see the point in all that to be honest. I like the system it has at the moment and I personally haven't had a problem with it since learning to drag PAST the cue ball to shoot. Why implement other control options when this one is the better one?

Because choice is always a good thing and what works for you, might not be ideal for someone else.
Think of it like a racing game, where there's different steering methods: tilt, finger slide, & and virtual wheel.
Having the option can only be a good thing. It's a competitive world out there.

We had that in older versions and will probably bring it back. Right now online is the primary focus.

I perfectly understand what you are saying (and wastedyuthe's point of view as well).
If you have used the tracking lines in Practice mode, then you will have seen the 'Shoot' button and the slider for the force to shoot with. In the next release there will be an option to enable the force and shoot button (without the lines, obviously) as a method for shooting.
Personally I hate this, I think it takes away from the game and demotes Virtual Pool down to the cheesy 2D overhead pool games. I mean really, where do we stop when making the game easier? I could just program the game such that every ball went in the pocket. Maybe in a future version after you select the game to play it just pops up a dialog that says "You WON!!!"
Anyway, rant aside, I understand that people want options and if people find stroking the cue difficult with the touchscreen, no problem, I'll offer another way. I just hope we stay short of adding an 'Auto-Pot' feature. ;)

That would be great!! "One stroke to break them; one stroke to pot them all" If you could also incorporate exploding pool balls and hidden land mines beneath the table, we'd appreciate it.

I've noticed that there's been quite a few new pool games showing up in the App Store lately and two of them (Billiards and PoolRebel) have free PC versions that I've since demo'd and although they're not bad for 2D, they clearly lack the immersive life-like factor that makes VP so unique. I suppose for some it may just take a bit longer to adapt to VP's controls, but they're worth learning because I think they're key to making the game so engaging and life-like. All in all, this is truly where VP shines above any other pool game in existence.

I played the PC versions of "Billiards" and "PoolRebel" and it was strange because in the Billiards game it was as though the balls were gliding on ice, or floating on water, it was rather bizarre.

I do see one feature in Midnight pool that you might want to think about adding - an undo button in practice mode. This way people can see how subtle aim differences affect a shot. Take a practice shot, undo it, re-aim, and see how the spin or slight movement totally changes the outcome.

Once you have multi player worked out, I'd love to see a trick shot mode. That would increase the fun ten-fold.

+1 on a "trick shot mode" Just a bit of fun when you don't have time for a whole game. There are many standard trick shots that should be easy to add in. Of course, some of them might require Masse to be enabled forst for jump shots or true curves.

I would LOVE to see masse as I use it a bunch on my real 9 ball games to get out of "safe's"

Wow, this thread and half price in the app store just made me buy this game.
I just played a couple of games and I like it a lot!

Don't hesitate to purchase this app if you want a great pool game.:)

Yay! New version out today! Includes new Easy Shoot option (THANK YOU for just making it an option! I will NEVER EVER use it!) and easier slow-speed strokes.
One thing I have noticed is that in Quick Play mode you have done what I requested- a message at the end of a match to say who has won! Okay, it uses the money note graphic like at the end of a career match which is kind of odd as no money changes hands in Quick Play mode. But at least it is there and it works! It certainly makes the difference compared to how it used to be (immediately going back to the menu after the last ball was potted).

THANK YOU VERY MUCH VP!

so whats with the easy shoot option?? whats the slider for???
and in 8 ball I see you are able to pot the opponents ball without it being a foul?? any chance of a uk version?

The easy shoot option lets you pick your shot strength from the slider.
Then you aim the cue and push the shoot button.
It's easier then using the cue for everything.

BTW, how does the UK 8-ball differ?

Afaik, these are the differences in UK 8-ball: (please correct me if I'm wrong, or missed anything).

* When a player commits a foul, the opponent get two shots (as long as he/she doesn't then foul).
* The target ball doesn't need to hit the rail.
* After a foul, the cue ball cannot be moved(2 shots awarded instead).
* No Black ball pocket nomination.
* Balls are usually solid Red and Yellow(not sure if that's a rule or not, tbh).

Awesome update btw! I don't use the shoot button, but its now easier to do subtle shots using the cue, without it switching to aiming mode.

In Quick Play, the opponent you select should be 'Practice' (all the way to the left).

Glad to hear the update is working well.

Should have online play by end of year.

Yeah, the selection screens need an overhaul, as it was too laborious and finicky when selecting the various opponents, tables, etc, but those are 2nd level issues, that can wait.

I cannot find practice on quick play?? It's defo not there??

redgaz26....

As soon as you launch VP select Quick Play, just under Career Play. Once you enter Quick Play select Practice Alone by repeatedly hitting the left arrow.

Virtual Pool,

Thank you for the updates! As always, the game is playing beautifully!
