Re: Mac Virtual Display. I walk away from my actual Mac, 2-3 times an hour, so pulling off the Vision Pro now and then to get a break will be no big deal for me. Can't wait to try it!

So like an iPad basically. Well it is iPad vr. And you need your own Mac to make that Mac screen work.

But do I need a companion device that costs more than my primary ones? Also comes with a 200
Dollar beach ball travel case.

Apple needs to aggressively lower the price on this for it to sell yes.

This is the Apple Newton all over again.
…. But then the Newton was usefull.
I bought the Newton. Still have the MP2100. It broke a lot of ground and was way ahead of its time. Some of that tech took years to make its way into the iPhone/iPad, like data detectors and handwriting recognition which was pretty much perfected by the 3rd gen MP.

I’m not seeing that sort of groundbreaking innovation in VP.

It always is!

Gen 4 iPod was the best. It's the last one before they made the screen color, had a click-wheel, was Windows compatible, great battery life, great price.

Gen 4 iPod Nano was the best. It was the super colorful and super slim one, before they added a video camera for some reason.

Gen 4 iPad was a great buy. It was the first with the lightning connector.

Gen 4 Macbook Air was the first of the redesigned tappered look. This design lasted for close to a decade!

Gen 4 iPhone was the 4. Need I say more?

You can go on and on. Gen 4 seems to always be the sweet spot.
Wasnt iPhone 4 the one with the lackluster antennae placement? “Holding it wrong” etc. 🤷🏻‍♂️😉🤪

Dramatically underpowered though. But if you consider year 4 instead of gen 4, then you score the upgraded model with Sandy Bridge CPUs. Those were truly great.
Yea, like most rules of thumb, it's more a generalization than a fact. With regard to the Macbook Air, the 3rd iteration of the 2nd gen model (ie, Mid 2012) was the optimal one imo. Ive Bridge CPU was fast, but it was the first really future-proof model - first with USB3, first configurable with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD, first with the improved FaceTime HD camera.

1) Replace Personas with Memoji
2) Why is the Home Screen text so small and thin?
3) There needs to be a REAL transparency mode paired with optional look outside break notifications (like stand reminders on the Apple Watch) to rest your eyes.
4) Part of the reason for the high price is to stop this from cannibalising Apple's other display options, no?
5) I'm not buying one at least until I can plug it directly into my iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
They need to drop Memojis and go with Personas for all devices.

The lack of multi-monitor Mac support is really unfortunate, that seems like it should be the killer app for Vision Pro.

I can't think of any hardware limitation, a decent WiFi 6 network should easily have enough bandwidth for 2-3 displays. So maybe that'll come in an update.
Meta Quests VR headsets support multi-monitor on Macs (up to 5 displays), not sure why this can't.

The predominantly negative reviews were expected given the Apple Vision Pro's hefty price tag. At the end of the day, you get iPadOS a bunch of unoptimized apps, eventually ending up with an expensive external display for your Mac. Lol.

Persona looks awkward, and eye sight just isn't what they advertised. The travel case is so big, like what the heck?

The device is cool and all, but I'd pay maybe a grand at max.

Looks great! I’m fine being a beta tester. I believe we will get VisionOS 2.0 this fall, though…it will be announced alongside iOS 18, with a focus on fitness and customization. :)
I definitely think we’ll see a visionOS 2 this fall. I think this will also fix personas and the eye sight. Perhaps we’ll get a fix for those sooner.

The same here. It’s incredible tech, but it blurs the boundary between reality and VR too much. It’s borderline dangerous for some individuals.
@G5isAlive what do you find funny about this? It’s a serious comment. There are people with technology addiction and products like this could cause individuals with mental health issues to detach from reality. The reality is all AR devices could do that, but Vision Pro kids users in believing it tries to maintain that reality when it really doesn’t. All the reviewers are saying the same.

Point is, this isn’t for everyone.

I can’t wait for this to crash and burn. I’d call it Tim’s folly, but his entire tenure of steering Apple toward maximizing shareholder (and not user) value is his true folly.

Steve selected him as CEO. Tim came from supply chain (profit squeezing guy). I pointed out that this would be problematic in the long run and was ridiculed multiple times. I was right.

I think Apple was better off waiting a few years to make a blockbuster, TRUE game changing device like how the original iPhone or MacBook Air was. The AVP just seems like something created just to say they have a new item in their catalogue and is still quite unpolished. -shrugs-
Have you actually tried to use the original iPhone? I have, it sucked vs blackberry

Tim exhibited no self control by releasing this when it's clearly not ready for prime time. Releasing a product that "feels like a first gen device" is not what Apple should be known for. When the iPhone came out it felt magical from the moment you saw/felt/used it. That speaks to Jobs' idealism which Tim sorely lacks. The tech for the iPhone was first developed into what we know as the iPad, but Steve had the foresight to tell the team to turn that into a phone. He didn't just rush it out. This product is also a very singular/isolationist experience - something else Steve would have demanded be turned into a social/connection experience before releasing. For this and many more reasons, Tim needs to step down and a true visionary brought in....

There are no more true visionaries like Steve. Some say he’s dead and just let it go. But name someone like him. Everyone of his caliber is dead or retired. The new generation of geniuses are just in it for the money.

Finally got around to reading his biography recently. Better 10+ later when it feels more historical. The unique combination of circumstances that created him will probably never happen again.

Not the actual original. But I went from what I considered the perfect blackberry, the square chunky one, to the Storm when the chunky one started getting too old. Yeah that lasted about one day before I took it to AT&T and told them to take that piece of **** back and give me an iPhone 3G. Had I been a little savvier in my younger days I would have waited a bit longer for the 3GS, but still that 3G put that Storm to shame. Yeah it didn’t do some things my better BlackBerry did (yet) but it was way better and obviously I never got another BlackBerry.

So no, unless you can afford to just blow four thousand dollars, do not buy this. Wait a year or two. But don’t write it off completely just yet.
