Technically, >100% is also >50%. ;) But you're correct, I incorrectly specified margins instead of markup.

The commenter said: "That's [$1400] about what Vision Pro costs to make. So in classic Apple fashion, it is sold for more than twice as much."

That's claiming Apple has a markup of around 150%, which is obviously untrue. The commenter is claiming Apple has a gross margin of about 60%, which is unrealistically high for a newly developed hardware product.
You forgot R&D, Marketing, factory tooling, shipping, etc.

Why would it be a turd ? Have you tried it or any other VR headset ? I've tried it and It's technologically superior to every other headset on the market. It's only flaws are the insane price, and the heavier weight compared to something like the Quest 3 ( which I own )
Design is not a flaw? Cable+battery?

There is no right or wrong, I guess. I mean, they had to start somewhere!
I'm sure they'll get to the point where you won't even realize you're wearing AR glasses. It'll take a dozen years, maybe more, but they'll get there :p
I’m not a customer is search of anything like that. Personally, I want better products in exiting categories, like a more useful MBA with a good port selection, a good small iPhone, and a large-screen iMac with a practical port selection, ideally with a Pixar lamp/sunflower design. I’ve no need for a watch, glasses or rings. I’m good.

Even as a copy, I’m very curious how good of a copy they were able to pull off for such a complex device. A promo video and some specs doesn’t really inform me about the UX, which is what ultimately matters. Once it’s released, I’m looking forward to people outside of China getting their hands on it (hopefully) and posting comparison reviews.

I'm waiting for a new iPhone Mini too, man... I can't stand these "pans".

But absolutely no one wants to wear a heavy, wall-tethered, nausea-inducing, world-isolating headset. No one.

The hyperbole goes way over the line with the AVP hate. I use mine every single day for hours at a time. I look forward to using it. It provides me benefits that I cannot get from other devices. I am not tethered to a wall. I do not find it uncomfortable. I have never once been inclined to vomit while wearing it. I am able to be around my family more while using it than not using it.

Just because you don’t agree with my experience does not mean my experience does not exist, nor am I the only one who has it.

Vision Pro is fun for serving as a marker of the decline of comment and editorial quality on this site.

MR: "Vision Pro manufacturing is limited to hundreds of thousands of units per year"
Also MR (and commenters): "Vision Pro hasn't sold millions of units, it's been a flop"

I'd like to ask you: what do you use it for the most?

Exactly how I feel when I get told around here that "the world has moved on from small (normal sized) iPhones!" and I need to "get over it".

Doesn't map to my experience or preference for iPhone Mini (or smaller) devices at all!

What you're saying is you make up numbers, get offended when someone asks for evidence, and you also ignore the fact that a simple materials cost is not the total cost for Apple to make and support a product.
No what I'm saying is I know what I'm talking about, and it isn't my problem if you don't. My source is knowledge. Go educate yourself, don't ask me to do it for you.

Consuming media is second to none. I frequently prefer to have multiple video files overlapping, which isn’t possible on iPads/iphones but is very doable on the Vision Pro through third party apps or using the airplay receiver in my iPhone.

Unwinding, being able to put on a meditation app in significantly higher resolution than a Meta product, or kick back in one of the environments for a few minutes is really useful for me personally.

During the evenings, if my wife crashes early I’m able to work or view media from the Vision Pro in close proximity and not blind her with an ipad screen. If everyone is watching something I’m not into I’ll put on something alternate or have multiple screens going so I’m not distracting everybody, but keep my AirPods on transparency mode so I’m still in the moment with everyone.

For all the complaints about it being a solo experience, keeping your head in your phone is equally a solo experience. It’s what you make of it. I don’t have to watch a movie in a media room away from everyone if I want to do my own thing. I’m able to stay in the same room and do my own thing in a way which doesn’t distance myself from everyone but I’m still able to see everything and interact with everyone.

I’m able to use it for all the same things. I use an ipad as a laptop and can just as easily grab my keyboard and do bills or work on the Vision Pro if it’s convenient. It depends on my mood. I use several apps that are immersive and the Vision Pro is what I pick every time. The only time I won’t use it is when eating or drinking.

This is an article about a company (effectively copying) and Apple product, and putting that aside for the moment the people who hate the product the most are losing it because if someone is making money off of a Vision Pro, it means it’s not the terrible product that no one on earth wants to use.

People hated iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. Apple has a ton of cash in the bank. Immersive reality and wearables are the way of the future. It’s not going anywhere. It will only improve. There will be new products in the future that they can trash and will. If it makes sense for Apple to make, they’ll make it. If they don’t sell, they’ll stop or try something else. If there’s money to be made on headsets, people will make it, despite the furor.

And, this is another device solidifying that having cameras pointing down and tracking hands is better than having to have a separate wrist worn device to use it. By the time Meta gets to market, what they release is going to have to match the feature set of the AVP copycats while trying to beat their price.

Cool!
Do you find it much faster compared to a mac when dealing with multiple windows when using it for work?
I'm asking because that's what I think the killer use really is, and that's also what I probably would buy it for when time will come.

Being able to have one. :) Announcing better specs and a lower price than AVP has been done by multiple companies for over a year now. That’s the easy part. Having them available for people to take home is on another level.
Well, it kinda surprises me that it has screens of the same super-high resolution, a battery that lasts as much and so on.

Phablets. Naming it "mini" was a major problem. I've had this conversation with women who had a visceral reaction to not wanting a "mini" iPhone sight unseen, only to cause them surprise when they saw the phone wasn't as small as they had presumed. The only saw it because I own one. Marketing killed the phone. Now with modern battery chemistry and taking the phone up to 5.6" and giving it a narrower bezel, it could be a great option. Just get rid of all the additional marketing terms for iPhone and have two sets of phone: iPhone and iPhone Ultra, in three or four sizes.
