new phone to all these countries on the same day AAPL is going to sell waaaayyyy more than 10m iPhones this year. We could easily see this stock $250 by the end of year.

Knowing the Street, however, there could certainly be a few dips on the way.
Another interesting thing to remember is that a large portion of the revenue for iPhones purchased in Q2 won't be recognized until the 2.0 firmware update (Q3)...

Yeah, now we need to know about plans and who else is going to release in Oz. I am hoping for some serious competition and the strong Aussie dollar to bring about decent prices.

Really? Wow, I didn't know that. I knew about the deferred revenue model, but can you explain this new feature to me?

I thought they just took the revenue of all iPhones and split it evenly over 24 months.

It's a one time deferral that Apple is using. They claim that knowledge of the 2.0 firmware materially changed the device, therefore all phones sold after March 6th are not being recongized until after the firmware update.

From AppleInsider Notes on Q2 Conference Call:

The iPhone 2.0 software is coming in "late June." This is the first time Apple has offered a more specific timeframe for the update.

All iPhone customers will get the 2.0 software for free, whether they bought before or after the SDK announcement.

However, revenue for all iPhones sold after March 6th (the announcement date) will be deferred until after the software ships. The company reasons that every prospective buyer is aware of the upcoming software and may be influenced in their purchases.

iPhone revenue is still being recognized over 24 months, it's just that the 24-month period for phones sold between March 6 and June X won't start until the 2.0 firmware release date.

haha just on The Simpsons:

Mr Burns and Smithers go to "Crazy ET's phones" and over the loud speaker you hear

"Attention Shoppers! iPhones now 20 cents…"

Channel Ten really doesn't give a crap over what episodes it broadcasts. I saw that episode back in November last year. Same goes for every TV show Ten does.

Back to the point....lol.

like another thread said some time ago the iPhone should be available in Italy later this year for both Vodafone and Telecom customers..in fact, today was the first time I saw something about that on TV..the news on one channel said it's going to cost 500 and 600 Euros, for 8 and 16 Gb, it's going to be smaller while the other one said it's just going to be thinner, 9mm..I just hope it doesn't get any smaller, the "keyboard" would be even harder to use and watching movies, reading stuff as well..and of course it's going to be 3G..on of the two also said something about the rumor of it being out by the end of June, but there's nothing certain yet..

Vodafone to Deliver iPhone in Australia, Italy and Other Countries

Vodafone announced that it would be releasing Apple's iPhone in Australia later this year, as well as in New Zealand, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, South Africa and Turkey.
A spokesperson for Vodafone Australia confirmed that the carrier will release the iPhone locally in 2008, but could not provide any further information on the model, the price, the release date, or if Vodafone would be the exclusive carrier.
When asked for further details, the spokesperson was unable to "go into it at the moment." Rogers Communications similarly announced that they would be delivering the iPhone in Canada later this year but was also able to provide few details.

There have been a growing number of rumors indicating that Apple is looking to expand the iPhone's reach internationally. An earlier Australian rumor suggested that the iPhone would arrive as an unlocked phone to be used on multiple carriers, though Vodafone did not comment on this possibility.

Hooray!! a Formal announcement!

Nothing formal has been made from Rogers in Canada..
India has the iphone before Canada!! ha ha ha!

Just wait for the Canadians to start moaning again...

ps - I am Canadian and sick of people moaning about no iphone in Canada

Just one more step on the iPhone's road to WORLD DOMINATION!
Muhahahaha... *cough*

Interesting about Egypt

I wonder how they are going to implement Arabic script on the iPhone? That's going to be cool to seing as there are an average of four different shapes to each letter of the Arabic alphabet AND it's written from right to left.

Mmm. It'll be interesting to see how Vodafone prices them here in New Zealand.

Rogers made a formal (though brief) announcement

can't wait! my vodaphone contract is almost up (just a few months left to go) and i really don't want to go straight back into another 24month handcuff... i hope the iphones are available direct from the soon-to-be-opened sydney :apple: store...

I suppose this has no bearing on the US market, right? We're the suckers who have the iPhone on ONE carrier. God, I would kill for a VZW iPhone.
