So I have the unlimited data with S3 on verizon (which is the primary line). My wife wants an upgrade to the ip5, which is the 2nd line of our family plan.

If she upgrades with the subsidized price, will verizon:

1. allow her to maintain her unlimited data (bc my s3 is the primary line and i've been grandfathered in) OR
2. force both of our lines to the shared family plan OR
3. force her line (2nd)only into a family shared data plan??

1. no
2. no
3. no

she will get put into the 2GB plan for that line only (or whatever data plan you want). Existing users still have access to the old regular non share everything in your wallet plans.

I have a family plan with my Mother and Sister. We all have iPhone 4s with Unlimited Data. Im going to upgrade tomorrow night to the IP5 so i guess I really do need to sit down and figure out what the hell is going to happen to my VZW account now that ill be forced into a data limit with the LTE..

MY headache is starting to emerge..... I WISH Big Red would just stop being a Bit*H and give us Unlimited DATA!!!!!!!

You do have unlimited data and are not being forced into a limited data plan if you buy the phone unsubsidized. The choice is yours to give up your unlimited data.

If I buy it unsubsidized will my unlimited data be LTE?? Or just 3G?

bud, 2GB of data is NOTHING on LTE. You Apple folks will find out the hard way once you join the LTE bandwagon come Sept 21.

just sayin...

Exactly. I wish SOMEONE would explain this to folks who havent been on 4G. You can BREEZE through 2gs of data in 1/4ths of billing cycle

Just got off the horn with Verizon

You can add a new line and keep unlimited data.

You can preoder and add a new line to your existing account at 3:01AM EST and not lose it in a simple way.

GO to My Verizon, Click PRE SELL.. Add the new line. Purchase the iPhone you want on the NEW line.

Find yourself a dummy phone [a non smartphone phone line a Moto Razr or flip so you'l only be charge $9.99 for the extra line instead of $40 for a smartphones typical data package. Then switcht he iphone 5 to your smartphone line

You can keep unlimited data, NOT pay $600,700,849 for a iphone, just at the extra cost of $10 a month.

Only issue is you have a phone with a new two year contract. No biggie..

What if your still on that promo for your current line and pay 67 a month for your bill? Will adding a new line screw that all up? That's what I'm trying to avoid. I can pay 199 now for the phone on current line but don't want to mess up what I have

If you add a line, it shouldnt affect your current phone at all. Only if you update THAT phone then they start switching gears on you. You dont HAVE to opt into shared everything, you're forced into it. Only way you're forced into it, is accepting any discounts and upgrades.

With a new contract, you're not getting any upgrades nor discounts.

gotcha, I didn't think they still did these $10 add a line things

Yes. It is $30-40 a month, but if you switch the phone to a dummy phone, it will only be $9.99 since it is not a smartphone

Shared Everything is like so:

Smartphone- $40
Basic Phone- $30 a month
Jetpack/Hotspot/Netbook/Notebook- $20
Tablet- $10 a month

You can call and ask verizon though, it'll only be $9.99 if you turn off the data and just have a bare text &talk [NO internet access].

Call. 1-800-922-0204

If you add a line from here on out it will change your contract to a shared data plan no matter what just FYI

Yea thats what im saying

and to the guy above, I did have a dummy phone on my account not a smartphone and it was $30

im beginning to think every verizon/att rep is completely clueless on everything. I have received dozens of different responses over the course of past 2 days

You're not changing your contract. You're adding a line, which has it's own contract.

Let me rephrase: You do NOTHING to your current phone. You simply get another line [which is a standalone] and pay the $199,299,399. Your current unlimited data or whatever plan will not be changed. At all.

Then again, I've been out of my contract since July 18th and adding a new line only gives the NEW phone a contract, not my own.

Just spoke to the FOURTH rep, all with the same answer.

1. If I added a line will I be forced to use share everything with my current plan?
Answer: No.

2. If I add a line from here on out will it be $9.99 or $30 a month?
Answer: It will be $9.99 if you are using a basic line. It's only $30 with shared everything.

3. Can I keep Unlimited Data on my CURRENT account, but simply get the iphone on preorder for a new 2 year plan/separate number?

Answer: You may add a line of service, pre order with the new line, and simply go to a store, or call Verizon and switch the iphone to your other line.

Cliffnotes:

--You are only forced into Share Everything plans if you are a NEW customer or upgrading your CURRENT line [I.E. attempting to get a new iphone with a discount, or a non verizon user]
-- You can KEEP your uinlimited data/plan + add a new line on a different plan.
-- only NEW customers are forced into Shared everything, aka, NO account with Verizon.

Hope I'm helping some folks. From the horses mouth to my ears.

From my calculations opening lines has its own problems. For me I plan on getting 2 iphone 64GB unsubsidized price of $849/phone. By adding 2 additional lines I'm only saving $400 or so over the life of the contarct and that doesn't take into account taxes on the extra lines and having to buy some crap phones to hold the lines open on.

For each line its an extra $240/year plus taxes if youre getting the 16GB version thats $200 + $240=$460 if you buy it outright its $649 only saving you $189 for the headache of doing this.

Did I miss something or is this about right

Just buy the phone from fleabay or CL. THey will come down in price over time. Mist of us are under contract anyways.

Or just move to Sprint. Sprint soon enough will have a large enough LTE footprint to compete.

If you have an upgrade available on a different line and your line has unlimited data. Transfer the upgrade from the different line to yours and purchase the iPhone 5. Your plan will remain the same but the different line will be extended to a new 2 year agreement. That's what I'm doing.

Is this true? So I can hit the transfer upgrade button on myverizon and preorder the phone on my current phone w/unlimited and it will Only affect the contract on the phone I took the upgrade from?

That's about right. And don't forget the $36 activation fee they will charge you if you buy the subsidized phone. More like a $160 saving.

I'm usually under 1GB if I don't tether - but that was on 3G which has sucked for data lately. When I had my Thunderbolt, before I had tethering, I used 20GB+ though.

Tethering (currently using a Razr Maxx until the 5 is released) I'm at 10-80GB/mo. I don't plan on scrapping tethering after moving to the iPhone 5. LTE tethering is better than my home Comcast ever was and is half the price (tethering $30, Comcast was $60 for just Internet).

I thought the VZW tether plans was $30 for 3GB. How are you getting 10GB? I didn't know there was an unlimited tethering/hotspot option.

No, you are just plain WRONG.

I just added a dumb phone account on a NEW line and I have an existing unlimited account. I was able to keep my unlimited, and when I upgrade my dumb phone account tonight to an iPhone 5 it will not effect my unlimited account with my current line.

Hope this helps people. Can't wait until 12 am!

Okay.... Found ANOTHER loophole [for those of us who DONT have dummy accounts already].. Hopefully this works... But you'll MISS THE PREORDER. Has to be done via CUSTOMER SERVICE:

-Call the Sales Department to Preorder your Cell Phone...

-Tell them you want to add a new line to a SUB account {practically a bracket of your account, but not on the same level as yours}

- Tell them you want the BARE minimum Share Everything Plan with 300MB [they wont tell you they have this.. They do.] It's $70.00 total.

- You'll get the phone in the mail, Activate this line FIRST when you get it. Not your regular line.

- Call Verizon, tell them you have two accounts that you want to MERGE into a Nationwide Talk & Text plan [whichever that might be]

-HAVE THE DUMMY PHONE with you or they can't activate it!

This should work. If not... We'll be paying full retail. This sucks so many bowls of d------

And yes.. you end up with two phones, but at the cost, yeah it's not much saving, but still... everyone doesnt have $849 to shell out

Anyone? Bump?

I have Unlimited data now... if I buy unsubsidized will my dad still be 3g or when i get LTE that will be considered a "new Plan"?

For long term warranty and out of warranty coverage (for an off-contract full priced phone), is it better to buy from Verizon or Apple directly?

If you buy it full priced.. yes, you keep unlimited data on 4g AND 3g.

I have a feeling Verizon is going to get burned by this new shared everything plan [like they did with that $5,$10,15 text package they did in like 2007 that flopped]

Was the unlimited plan you had the single user or family (i have single user Nation wide Talk & Text).

You added a new line today, but will be ordering the iPhone tonight, so you can postpone using the allowed sub until later.
