VZW- best way to preorder w/ unlimited data

For long term warranty and out of warranty coverage (for an off-contract full priced phone), is it better to buy from Verizon or Apple directly?

I get my Insurance through Verizon. Apple typically will give you a replacement if you go with a real issue and you're within your year warranty they give all new products.

Verizon are crooks, and now they can't go and give you a phone IN store, you apparently have to go to customer Service and send you one. In store I think it's like $89-100.

Only reason I choose Verizon.. Is Apples Applecare package is $100+ dollars for that extra year which is great.. But Verizon doesnt honor it. Apple honors Verizon. Verizon honors Verizon.

the moment you try to activate your iP5 on the newly added line (that had the dumb phone) they're going to force you to go on the shared data plan.

GO to My Verizon, Click PRE SELL.. Add the new line. Purchase the iPhone you want on the NEW line.

Find yourself a dummy phone [a non smartphone phone line a Moto Razr or flip so you'l only be charge $9.99 for the extra line instead of $40 for a smartphones typical data package. Then switcht he iphone 5 to your smartphone line

You can keep unlimited data, NOT pay $600,700,849 for a iphone, just at the extra cost of $10 a month.

Only issue is you have a phone with a new two year contract. No biggie..

So I can swap the new Iphone 5 onto my own existing number and then just pay a total of $10 a month for the new line once its swapped with a basic flip phone? In the long run it would be cheaper for me to do this, $240 total after 2 years.

What is the ETF on a dumbphone, or would I be charged the smartphone ETF since that's what the line was activated with?

YOU are the one that's misinformed. I just confirmed and talked to a rep about this. When I add my iPhone 5 on my new dumb phone line I just ordered I will NOT be switched to the shared data plan. I don't know where you are getting your information. I will only lose my unlimited if I upgrade my unlimited line.

They don't force you to a shared data plan though? That's BS if they do. I've talked to a few reps and they told me this would work. They only force you to a shared data plan upon opening a new line.

Longtime VZW member. You guys can try it. I will try as well, but I'm doubtful it will work. Imagine the deluge of folks that will be asking to keep unlimited plan. They're going to be more strict about this policy. I remember when I purchased my Galaxy nexus they were pretty lenient with activation and unlimited plan. Can't say this is the case any longer.

The rep I spoke with was very nice, and realized I wanted to keep my unlimited data. He was very careful as to not mess with it and explain that if I upgraded my NEW dumbphone line to the iPhone 5, that it will NOT alter my unlimited plan on my currently line in any way.

If you buy it full priced.. yes, you keep unlimited data on 4g AND 3g.

I have a feeling Verizon is going to get burned by this new shared everything plan [like they did with that $5,$10,15 text package they did in like 2007 that flopped]

Okay.... Found ANOTHER loophole [for those of us who DONT have dummy accounts already].. Hopefully this works... But you'll MISS THE PREORDER at 3am, unless you CALL THEM DONT TRY ONLINE. Has to be done via CUSTOMER SERVICE:

-Call the Sales Department to Preorder your Cell Phone...

-Tell them you want to add a new line to a SUB account {practically a bracket of your account, but not on the same level as yours}

- Tell them you want the BARE minimum Share Everything Plan with 300MB [they wont tell you they have this.. They do.] It's $70.00 total.

- You'll get the phone in the mail, Activate this line FIRST when you get it. Not your regular line.

- Call Verizon, tell them you have two accounts that you want to MERGE into a Nationwide Talk & Text plan [whichever that might be]

-HAVE THE DUMMY PHONE with you or they can't activate it!

Just call Verizon and give IMEID number on the phone to Verizon customer rep. They will set you up. Make sure you tell them you purchased full price (i'm sure they can verify on their own as well).

I dont trust Verizon's site. I call the rep.. get EVERYTHING noted to the count. And before I finish my call, get a confirmation # of my call so in case there's a dispute.. when I address it, I have the call log AND the notes left on account to go back on.

DONT go into it blindly trying to do it yourself on VerizonWireless.com and end up with your feelings hurt.

Sorry, I am just trying to understand the mechanics of doing this. So I should call now and add a line to my plan. Adding this line qualifies me for a subsidized phone. However when I call and add the line I do not at that time use the subsidy, I wait and use it when I can preorder the iPhone 5

Bro, there's a loophole to everything. Verizon took DOWN Nationwide Talk & Text because they want you to share everything. If you're on the account by yourself.. aint nothing to share. You CAN merge accounts and get a subsidized bill. Hence the Nationwide Call & Text. But online Verizon only says it's available to Canada & Mexico. Yeah right.

also, ask to transfer to 'loyalty department.' they are more flexible with your issues depending on how long you've been a verizon customer.

don't tell this to too many folks though lol. would like to keep this a little known secret.

it's not about being hoodwinked. you can get your way with customer reps if you know what you're doing. better to go through loyalty department anyhow. also, the more lines you have, the higher the possibility they give everyone unlimited plan because of the fear the subscriber will ditch VZW.

Not true, you can still choose a bulk of data such as 2GB for $30, just tried to price one out myself on another line with the S3. Also not true if you were to buy the iPhone unsubsidized, you can activate it and they dont force you to a shared plan lol. Come on man, get your facts straight!

You said ANY smartphone. Which is still not true. They have bulk data available. It's only true if you open a new line, they don't give you the bulk data option, only the shared plans if your on a family plan like me.
