Also, keep in mind the MASSIVE number of phones that are being shipped out. They aren't all going to change status at the same time. The phones are scheduled to come Friday, so there is lots of time to get them in the system before then and still get them out on time. Most probably won't even ship until Thursday.
And then every year the FedEx tracking system goes down because of everyone checking their status every six minutes, so be ready for that one too! haha

I'm sure they'll move, what makes it worse is if they move to the city where they're supposed to be delivered in (don't think that happens until 1-2 days before it's to be delivered anyhow), but it'd be more nerve wracking if it sat at the location in your city for a week, just knowing it's there... waiting.. to be put on a truck.
Yeah they will sit at the hub for the majority of next week and then begin the process of actually shipping to their destinations. These phones have been sitting in Memphis for probably a little while now. I agree 100%. Had the exact same issue when I preordered my iPhone 5 and regular ordered my 5s from Verizon. Horrible updates and communication but both times arrived on the date they said. I commented in another thread I was considering going with Apple direct this time just because of the communication. That being said I have no fears if the phone arriving any other day than what they said in the confirmation email.

In the past some people have had luck but I also know fedex has been pretty stringent on the iPhone rules since it is such a huge contract they have. I wouldn't be surprised if they tell you the driver has to attempt delivery first. Otherwise everyone would call ask them to hold it and go pick them up first thing in the morning.

How many orders from Verizon look exactly the same with very very specific hold instructions till the 19th? Which just happens to coincide with one of the largest releases of the year? My point is your package will be tagged as do not deliver before the 19th and I believe the rule is they have to try and deliver it first as well so that will be on there. People try every year to call and pick it up early that morning and unless I'm remembering completely wrong, the majority of the time they say nope we can't do it. It's worth a call though once it moves to the final processing station, the worst they can say is no.
