just because they assign your account a phone number, are we sure that means you have a phone?

cause if i recall correctly they can assign your account a phone # without the phone being involved. if they couldn't, it would be harder to switch phones.

i still think they don't have their iPhone 6 plus 128gb shipment yet. theres no reason they would just not ship those. I'm hoping they get delivered tonight or tomorrow. i really don't want to have to start freaking out on wednesday because we still have no shipping info.

One thing that is Crystal Clear is Verizon is the worst company on the planet no sense in calling you will just get further upset just have to plan on staying up all night on Thursday if dont have email to be first online as if there is a shortage of them the stores are only going to have a few which means the first few people on line

Verizon, just like any other company, has employees who care to do the job the right way, and those who don't, at every level of svc. I used to work for a VZ indirect dealer. It's not the training or the info VZ gives it's employees that is bad. If you care, you'll pay attention and learn so you can inform. If you don't, you won't. That's where "conflicting info form various reps" comes it.
 
Just checked out my VZW order and it shows as shipped, gave a tracking number of which I have never seen that type of number used for FedEx or UPS and it shows no Carrier info. Does say expected shipped date of 9/18. So things are progressing in the right direction for me. :D

Update: Just went to the the order status page that is linked in the email confirmation which is a different page than the preorder page that has been linked here. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/orderstatus/OrderStatusForm This is the page that is in the confirmation email and this shows my fedex tracking number and that it is Memphis right now.
 
You pick the area code and the exchange. The last four numbers are assigned when the device and the sim are attached to the order.

I ordered a Droid Maxx last summer. It took me four days after I placed the order to get the actual phone number. Once I had the number, I had a delivery date.

Right. I got my confirmation within minutes with the complete number.

Could they legally sell something they don't have? Or pre-sell something without letting the customer know when?

I doubt it's the case of no stock, or no knowledge of what they will get to fulfill orders as promised.

I got the same message! Perhaps the tracking number is for the Chinese currier service?

ETA: it took a couple minutes, but now the tracking number works for Fed Ex. Just arrived in Memphis.

Verizon's order system remains very badly borked. Orders not showing on your account, folks getting informed there is a problem, etc. But it's generally just their own internal system and not real problems. That was confirmed to me at the store where I ordered my 6+, when I asked why the info said "there was a problem with your order - please contact us." Several reps looked into it and confirmed I was fine, my order was fine, and that the system generated tons of erroneous trouble messages.
 
Two previous iPhone preorders with Verizon:

4: Received a confirmation email within a couple of hours of ordering. Email said ship by 02/10/2011. Seemed like every story from everyone who talked to a rep was different, with the most negative ones getting the most attention. Delivered on 02/10/2011.

5: Received a confirmation email within an hour of ordering. Email said deliver by 09/21/2012. Seemed like every story from everyone who talked to a rep was different, with the most negative ones getting the most attention. Credit card (Discover) auth charge showed pending and credited back on Friday. Order status showed a delayed then empty date over the weekend. Credit card charged for full amount on Monday. Shipping notification email on Tuesday. Delivered on 09/21/2012.

So far this one is tracking exactly with my 5 preorder experience.

The phone number in the system has to be attached to either a device ID or a sim id. It can't be assigned to an account without that. As I understand it, VZ has all the device ID's and sim ID's for every device either in the inventory, or are committed to the inventory before they get there physically.

For all those iPhones they have a commitment to receive from Apple, that info is in the system already. They use that info for the product page when you order. This is why folks have been receiving receive by dates for 9/19 for the plus's; but no tracking info yet. This tells the the physical product is on the way to Big Red.

Neat. I have a phone number and a 10/7 ship date so fingers crossed it means an early phone or at least guaranteed phone.

Ordered 3 x iPhone 6 Plus 16GB Gold at 12:08AM PST, got a confirmation email one hour later with a delivery date of 10/14/2014. No tracking number and no charge on my credit card. WTF? Verizon rep said that is the date given to everyone but if I ordered very early, I should still get them on 9/19. WTF Verizon? I can wait a few extra days but a whole month?:confused:

Im replacing two lines on a business account (few hours after pre orders went live). Ordered one 16gb 6+ and one 64gb 6+. The email said 10/14 for both and phones but when I check the status on VZ.com I get 10/14 for the 16gb and nothing available at this time for the larger 64 gb. Not sure if nothing available is a good or bad sign?
 
Those of us with a discrepancy in delivery dates will know more by Wednesday or Thursday. They usually ship 2-day or overnight, so there is still time! :)

If we don't get any tracking update or credit card charge by then, you may have a reason to worry if you want it Friday.
