My guess is they made 5 times as many 6 as the 6 plus. Based on this preorder, Apple may be cranking up producing more Plus models and less 6 models. We are their guinea pigs.

if I walk into verizon on the 19th and somehow they have the 6+ I want in stock, will I be able to cancel my preorder and buy the one they have all in one shot smoothly?

I'm not really that worried about it. I *almost* went back to bed (well, went to lay on the futon in my office) but figured I'd just sit there and mess with my phone for an hour or so when I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep... so I stuck with it. I'm sure I'll appreciate getting it on Friday the 19th, but right now, I'm not too hung up on it. I agree with you though -- the couple of other times I've ordered thru VZW, the date on the email was the date I got it.
Ordered 6+ 16 GB gold from verizon at 3:30 AM EST, after many failed attempts. When I logged on to my verizon at 245 Am shipping dates for the 6+ were already at 10/14 and both my order confirmation and order status say 10/14. Must've been in really short supply.
If it hasnt been shipped, then you should be able to. Make sure it is a verizon corporate store, not a reseller.
It likely won't be that easy. It depends if it was a new line, an upgrade, etc, but generally their system will show a pending change (upgrade, add line, etc) and not let them. I had a situation when I ordered the 5 2 years ago, and needed to swap to another phone before it got here, since the order for the 5 was pending, I wasn't able to swap, so I was without a phone for a couple of days -- it may be different now, but I'd call and ask Verizon now, so you don't go waste your time waiting at the store. It will also depend on if its shipped or already in que to ship.
Yep. Someone on here trashed me a little bit for repeating my story that the VZW rep "Jim" that I spoke with told me not to worry about pre-ordering the iPhone 6 at 3:00 AM because there would be stock for preorders through today. Note that I said the iPhone 6. I told him that both myself and my dad wanted an iPhone 6 (I manage my parents account). 2 other reps I've spoken to since talking to Jim were not bright -- one of them 100% misinforming me of something. But I could tell talking with Jim that he was no BS and he knew what he was talking about (and if he didn't he would indicate). Alas, I didn't want to risk it so I got up and preordered my iPhone 6 and whadda ya know? They STILL have iPhone 6 preorders advertised as going out on 9/19... Jim was RIGHT!

I don't think so. I'm trying to remember how it went for me.... Last year, I ordered myself an iPhone 5s, 64GB space gray. After preordering it, I decided that my iPhone 5 was a rockstar and my wife needed the 5s. I made calls and what it came down to was that I had to actually wait for the space gray one to be delivered then take it to the store and swap it out for the one my wife wanted (lower-capacity, silver one). So that's what we did.
Unfortunately, I'm getting older and my memory of details for those kinds of events is sketchy so I don't recall why we had to do it that way, I just know that I made multiple phone calls and that was the conclusion. I think it's because when you cancel a preorder, it doesn't automatically reset your upgrade eligibility in the system so you'd have to wait X amount of time until it's processed and propagates thru their system before you can turn around and re-place an order... something like that.

My dad is relieved. He's been wanting to get an upgrade from his iPhone 4(!) for a while now and has been waiting for the 6. Mom can't be bothered while watching my nephews today, so pops is going to preorder his after work. Every model is still showing 9/19 except the ATT Silver 16GB model.
I wasn't taking chances with my Verizon pre-order. It told me 9/19 in confirmation but in order status was all over the place.
I canceled it and finished my Apple Reservation instead. I feel more confident with my 9/19 Apple confirmation then the Verizon one.

Ordered one by 2:55am with a 9/19 delivery date. Went to order another one (separate order), and it took me until 3:45 for the site to come back up after stalling. The 2nd order also have a delivery date of 9/19.
My dad is still on an old iPhone 4 also... and it's on it's last remanufactured leg. He was very happy that I took charge and got him all ordered and set up. I don't think the 19th can come fast enough for him!!
I ordered at a few minutes before midnight PDT, got my 6Plus128GBSpaceGray. Web conf showed 9/19 delivery. E-mail conf showed 9/19 delivery. Online order status shows my order as in process with expected ship date as "not available at this time".

OK, I'm getting worried. I ordered my iPhone 6 16GB from Verizonwireless' site this morning, billed to account... but have not gotten a confirmation email yet.
They did say a confirmation may take up to 24 hours but I see others have received them. Worried. Nothing in Order History yet, either.
I do see that my Bill to Account credit has gone from $400-ish to $200-ish now, which would jive with the cost of the iPhone 6. Hopefully that's a good sign.

I honestly think that some people with a delivery date of the 19th will actually get the phone sooner.

Same here, but my card has a "pre authorized credit for $0.00" Almost like they were just making sure it was there without actually charging it. I think that's normal, and I bet we will be charged when it ships.
I wouldn't count on getting it early, but who knows. I wouldn't complain lol.
I ordered 16gb space gray 4.7 around 5am. When in the process and the order email both said 9/19 delivery date but when I check the order on vzws site it says ship date 9/19. So idk what to think.
this is the first I've preordered, the 4 and 5 I literally just woke up the day of release and strolled into store and was able to get the phone.

VZW from past preorder iphone experiences hasnt charged my card up until it is ready to ship. Usually a day or two before.
I received my email this morning and was acutally able to preorder a few minutes before the set time. Was done with my preorder in just a few minutes.
I have a second line as a backup that im not upgrading but if something goes wrong, then i get in line friday!!

CC's are not charged until the phone actually ships. You will see a hold for now but not the full charge.
My email says 9/19, order status page says 10/14. Just talked to a very helpful VZW phone rep; she spent a good 20 minutes digging into the discrepancy. Her conclusion based on what she was able to find out during that time was that I should ignore the order status shipping estimate; she was "pretty certain" that I will be receiving both phones (the plus and the 6) on the 19th.
She also indicated that any actual change to the delivery estimate would result in a notification email, at which point I would have the opportunity to cancel the order.
