The current 'retina' resolution of 1440x900 is a joke to me and should really be at least 1680x1050 or even higher at 1900x1200.
I'm typing this on my 15" rMBP configured to 1920x1200.

I am totally shocked and stoned by this ghastly news, Broadwell has found its way in to MacBook Air's but why still no news, no mention of Broadwell in to 15" Macbook Pro ? Why ? Why ?Why ? Can someone explain me ? why ?
We went over this just a few pages back in this thread. Intel are releasing the 15W Broadwell CPUs before the higher power CPUs, just as they always do.

II wonder if there was any hue and cry or any spotlight during when Haswell was about to feature in rMBP !
Read the "Waiting for Haswell MBP Thread". :)

If Broawell-H is scrapped in favour of Skylake-H, we will be seeing a Skylake MBP15 in 2015.
Not going to happen. Intel will have enough fabs converted to 14nm before the Skylake architecture is ready. It looks like we'll see Broadwell-H even before we see 4W Skylake parts, let alone Skylake-H several months after that.

Yes but it is just you who has been telling all of us here that Apple will release a Broadwell Equipped rMBP in 2015 ! But there is no news, no rumours, no link to any website even remotely mentioning anything about this !!

But why wouldn't they release one in 2015?

I am dying to see one link to a rumour or news in any goddamn website which even remotely say this, please show me one !!

Sorry dude, we don't work for Apple nor would we disclose anything if we did...just be patient and enjoy the technology of today rather than trying to forecast your needs.

. . . and in the broader perspective, it is just a processor, and it is just a computer . . . 1st world problems as they say. Merry Christmas everyone! :)

This News has totally made me more anxious and impatient on whether and will at all there be a Broadwell powered rMBP in 2015.

Because Intel have only released the lower-performance Broadwell mobile chip so far.

If Apple waits for the high-performance Broadwell mobile chips, they might as well wait for Skylake since they will be launched around the same period of time (give and take a few months) if there will be no further delays.

You clearly understand that Intel are releasing the lower power Broadwell chips before the higher power Broadwell chips.

... but here it seems like you don't understand that Intel will release the lower power Skylake chips before the higher power Skylake chips. The only Skylake chips that Intel will release within a few months of the Broadwell chips suitable for the MacBook Pro will be the 4W Skylake chips. Higher power Skylake chips suitable for the MacBook Pro probably will not be shipping in quantity until early 2016.

I'm not sure this is true for Skylake. Do you have a source that has a roadmap for Skylake?

My question is there is no source, no link, not even a rumor which says anything for Broadwell or Skylake in Apple MacBooks, all people are just talking about is, Intel will release some day a thing called Broadwell and Skylake but nobody here knows heads or tail about how is Apple looking at it ! Let alone Roadmap !!

Just know that Apple will update the Macbook Pro next year, 2015, and since the last update was Haswell, Apple will most likely move to the Broadwell processors that will become avaliable during 2015.

Rumors and leaks aren't like the mobile devices. MacBooks use intel processors, you just need to follow the intel roadmap.

There's no need for rumors. Apple uses intel chips and as a high end computer manufacturer they usually offer the latest tech as soon as they are released.

Just Google for intel's roadmap and you'll get a general idea of where the Mac line is headed. 2015 will be the year of Broadwell and by the looks of it it will be around summer time, with some luck late spring.

The Notorious DigiTimes and all of those other secret sources operating out of China and Taiwan aren't reporiting anything on this. That Apple will have Broadwell to offer in its rMBP in 2015. If it was by U.S Summer which is think what August ? So if it was August-2015 by now all the rumour mills would have been churning out heaps of information on this, which ain't happening ! Which raises doubt on the credibility on this information !!

It has been true for every Intel processor at least since the 286 and I think at least since the 8080 and possibly all the way back to the 4004. I don't need a roadmap to have confidence that next year Intel will introduce lower power Skylake CPUs before higher power Skylake CPUs or to have confidence that tomorrow the sun will rise in the east and set in the west. In each case, predicting that the immediate future event will be the same as a long series of past events does not require any strong assumptions. I have in both cases the advantage of understanding why Intel release lower power CPUs before higher power CPUs and why the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

Sorry I don't see it. Wikipedia:

Volume production of Ivy Bridge chips began in the third quarter of 2011.[4] Quad-core and dual-core-mobile models launched on 29 April 2012 and 31 May 2012 respectively.[5] Core i3 desktop processors, as well as the first 22 nm Pentium, were announced and available the first week of September, 2012.[6]

Similarly Sandy Bridge launched with the quad core 45W TDP mobile processors first. So while at this point we know that Broadwell launches with low TDP processors first, there is no reason to believe that the same is true for Skylake. The leaked roadmaps that you can google also don't indicate a staggered launch for Skylake, and some outlets at least speculate that Intel will drop the high-end Broadwell altogether, see e.g.

I can't predict the future, I can't say what Intel and Apple will do. But I won't be surprised if we don't see new 15'' MBPs before July-Sept. 2015, and I won't be surprised if they come with Skylake.

Short battery life for one. Cost is another.

touch ID doesn't shorten battery life if its not used, and it isn't a significant power draw even if it is used. If the iPhones and iPads can handle it, I think a macbook could. Cost also isn't significant, again, its available on a $500 device.

Some people say that it wouldn't have a purpose. Thats silly, and those people must have an extremely limited imagination. Others say that its gimmicky. It wasn't too gimmicky for the iPhones and iPads.

I think other people just say it shouldn't have one because they don't think it will get one (which it probably won't any time soon), and they don't want to fault apple for anything.
