Can't wait to update to the newest MBP but, after all this time I don't want a Tic (Broadwell) when I can 'soon' have a Toc (Skylake).
Totally agree.

This wait for this next update is agonizing.

For me this purchase is totally a "want" not a need. I'm very happy with performance of my Lenovo Thinkpad W540.

However, I've been wanting to try the Apple Ecosystem in the laptop flavor for a while now. But current specs are a deterrent. Beyond specs, I want something new and cool about it that Apple just introduced. Maybe Force Touch will be that, even if it's just Force Touch + Broadwell + USB C.

I haven't read enough to understand what capabilities use cases would be diminished or limited by not waiting for Skylake. (except for better battery life due to DDR4 memory made possible by Skylake)

Just give me a quad core, dGPU and 16gb RAM, pretty sure that would satisfy all of us. The force touch and USB-c are nice additions but not selling points.

Agreed; this article's accuracy (not to mention grammar) looks woeful. Both the i5-5657C and i7-5775C are 65W DESKTOP processors, not mobile processors. There is no chance either shows up in a MacBook Pro.

Beware of these clickbait sites. They just put these popular articles out to generate traffic.

Core i5-5657C will be a 65W TDP processor while current 15" rMBP uses only 47W TDP. I'd say that is highly unlikely unless Apple wants to release a fatter laptop.

The 2.2Ghz model has been showing a shipping date of 1 business day with customized orders taking 1-2 weeks, whereas 13-inch models are "In Stock" with customized orders taking 1-3 business days. 2.5GHz model has been the same 2-3 weeks for a couple weeks now, with the same for customized orders. My guess is that Apple is slowly transitioning to build-to-order for the 15-inch now?

Also, some stores around my Los Angeles area are starting to show "Ships to Store" for personal pickup of the 2.2GHz base model

I'm willing to bet it's Apple's way of suggesting we wait lol

Does anyone here historically know how likely it is Apple skips to cutting edge hardware (i.e. Skylake)? From what I have seen, it's unlikely Apple would skip Broadwell for the latest-gen, as they like their margins. I can't imagine what they're making right now on the outdated 15" hardware. I also find it unlikely they would have a 5th generation CPU in the 13" and a 6th generation CPU in the 15"... But I sure hope I'm wrong. I'd line up to buy a Skylake 15" MBP

So i'm looking into getting a MacBook pro but don't know if I should wait for this "skylake" cpu as you guys keep raving on about haha. At the moment I have no laptop only a iPhone / iPad / Windows pc but would love a MacBook pro. So what do you guys think I should do?

P.S I really like the look of the new macbook, do you guys think they'll use this design across the pro line also because that is a pretty big impact on my buying as I don't really like the current macbook colour too much.

I have an early 2013 15" MBP with 16GB of DRAM and 650M discrete GPU. The most interesting features for me in the expected Broadwell 15" MBP are the Force Trackpad and the Iris Pro 6200 integrated graphics. I won't be bothered about whether the USB ports are Type A or Type C or one of each. Quad-core is a given. It's not clear whether or not there will be an 8GB option.

I see a MBP Skylake update and possible re-design in March of next year. I've been going back and forth on what to think of Broadwell... while it's a "tick" in the "Tick Tock" cycle, I believe it will serve it's purpose well, its not much more powerful than Haswell in CPU, but it is more energy effiecient and has better iGPU (and while not revoilutionary, it is still a nice update.) But if they can give the new MBP a newer/higher dGPU... that's my main draw.
I just want a *new* Macbook pro 15" period. lol

Same here. I'm selling my old 2010 MBP in hopes that we get a Broadwell one this June and I'll just resell that for Skylake later. I don't need a laptop but I certainly want one.

I have to say it's not looking good for a WWDC MBP update. No rumors no nothing. Especially if there would be a case redesign, there would be leaks and prototype parts circulating around by now.

If there's going to be any 15" rMBP BROADWELL update, it has to be nowadays, or at the latest, during Fall. However it will be top wishfull thinking, this update (if it ever materializes) will ever come with a case re-design. A new case design should be expected with the Skylake family!

Currently on a Lenovo y570 from 2011, want to get a macbook pro retina but dont want to buy a $3,000 computer and then it gets updated right after,

anyone heard any rumors of when they might update the 15 inch rMBP?

Leak of an Ancient Roadmap

Not sure if anyone has seen this but;

http://wccftech.com/intel-processor...ee-arrives-q3-2016-skylake-muy-chips-q4-2015/

Skylake M, U and Y processors are set to debut in Q4 2015 according to this leak.

It looks like that recently leaked graphic is from 2013. Note that it indicates Broadwell availability in Q3 2014, which didn't happen and which Intel knew at the beginning of 2014 would not happen. Further, there is no chance of Cannonlake shipping in Q2 2016.

It's Now Clear

With the discontinuation of BTO 15" Haswell MBP models in the reseller channels, it now seems quite clear that Apple will introduce 15" Broadwell MBP models at WWDC.

I expect we'll see Skylake MBP models in H1 2016.

I think the part about there likely being a 15" MBP update is true, but it's not clear (for certain) which processor it will be. I'd say 'probably' Broadwell, but I'd like to think Skylake is a possibility :)

To the best of my knowledge, there haven't even been any rumors of a possibility of Skylake-H (the version needed for the 15" MBP) being released in 2015. Any 15" MBP announced at WWDC will almost certainly have Broadwell CPUs.

I'm waiting to see how well the 6200 performs for the 15"

Hopefully it replaces dGPU for most people.

A great laptop would be a 15" quad core MBPr 2.x/16/512 with Iris 6200.

Or

15" quad core MBPr 2.x/8/256 with Iris 6200

Apple already do not sell 15" MBPs with only 8GB of DRAM. All 15" MBPs now come with 16GB. I don't expect that to change with Broadwell.
