Releases according to their status on Intel's site? Yes.

Are there any computers from any company shipping with those CPUs yet? Nope.

Of course, but you can't really compare to other manufacturers since they don't really refresh their lines as fast as Apple does, history is evidence. Like I've stated in this thread, I doubt it's the CPU holding them back.

----------

Maybe an added BTO option after the release, added quietly?

Well I think it can be a possible candidate for the highest spec rMBP 15" if it releases after or during September. So that makes the 4850HQ Base, 4950HQ Mid, 4960HQ High. However they could always introduce it early or maybe as a BTO but I think they won't update them until Haswell v2 at WWDC 2014.

If CPU isn't really holding them back, and presuming they don't have any major production bottlnecks, could they be waiting for the 4k 30" Cinema Displays?

They might introduce them with the Mac Pro later this year, but if the rMBP has enough power, I think it's feasible that they introduce the two together.

If they go the Iris-only route, my theorizing is probably moot since they seemingly won't be targeting the rMBP at consumers that would want to plug their devices into a 4k display.

As said many times, the 2.4ghx 4950hq is faster than the 2.8ghz 3rd gen i7

Going on the Geekbench scores it's faster indeed. 0.8% faster to be exact...

That's not the jump most people would want to see.

Geekbench is a mystery to me. The alleged 2.4 Ghz quad-core Haswell scores 12497 points. While the 1.7 Ghz Haswell dual-core Ultra Low Voltage scores 7290 points. You would think that with the TDP difference they would get more performance from the quad-core CPU's.

I need a 13" computer that has long battery life. I picked up the new MBA but couldn't stand the screen (I have a 15" retina), so I'm returning it and will wait for the new 13" retina MBP. I really wish they'd release it -- if they can make the Haswell MBA available, why not the MBP? It would be wonderful if it were a bit lighter than the older model -- haven't followed all 100 pages of this thread, but I read somewhere that the new MBP might be thinner.

Maybe this is "old" news, but when reviewing the Intel site, it has a listing for Haswell processors, but some of them have the code name of "Crystal Well". Has anyone heard of this code name? Is it for processors with Iris Pro GPU's? First time I saw this listed on their processor listing, but again, I could have overlooked it previously.

It's the L4 Cache for the IGP (Basically 5100 + L4 Cache) = Iris Pro. :)

Maybe geek bench doesn't fully utilize all the cores, I agree that if it did it seems the score would be higher. But it seems like such a score would be likely on a single core level

If you're looking for a discrete GPU, the i7-4702HQ I think is the one with most sense because it's 37W.

Well, 3rd gen Ivy bridge has thermal performance of 45w, then for 4th gen, there is i7-4900MQ which is only 47w and should be faster than 4905HQ.

Slightly confused

So, I probably should have asked this in the special interest/audio-section, but I read some other posts in that section and I didn't get the feeling they were very factual when it comes to hardware.
I have been tracking this haswell-thread for a couple of days, eager to buy my very first MBP.

So, here's where I am trying to get some clarity:

If I am not very interested in graphics, and don't care very much about the crystal awesomeness of retina, is there any point in me waiting for the new haswells?

I will be using some kind of music production software, with an external sound card, which people seem to be doing just fine with on today's models...

If the next MBP will be able to use 16GB ram in the 13", then I should definately wait. But if people are waiting because they want Crispier than crisp quality video and 3D, then maybe I should just buy a non retina i7 with ssd and be done with the waiting?

Or?

This is my thinking as well. I would like a retina display but I'm not sure I will need it. I would like 16gb ram and quad core cpu, however, and this is only available on the 15" retina. (I'm not interested in cMBP.) so if the haswell 13" retina does *not* provide the ability to upgrade past 8gb ram and dual core with integrated graphics, then there is very little difference between the 13" rMBP and the Haswell 13" MBA. That makes it dumb to wait at this point.

13" very doubtful with get 16GB, there just ain't the room on the logic board to get the ram.

Think people are just waiting because you are spending mega dosh on a premium notebook, do you really want one with a year old technology.

Apart from the rMBP Haswell will have a stronger iGPU over the Air and a more powerful CPU

Based on what you said, just go out and buy the current 13" rMBP.

You all excited for the new retina's? I'm looking forward to mine, been without a laptop for 2 months now. Wow I sound like a right geek.

The big improvements are going to be better battery life, faster SSDs, faster WiFi. If none of these seem particularly appealing, then you might as well get one today. If new rMBPs are announced at the investor conference, you'll still have time to return it. The alternative is to wait until October.

This is likely just a placeholder, but I noticed this while browsing retailers' respective MacBook stock earlier today. It could easily be a placeholder, especially considering the 2.8 GHz spec (which conflicts with more likely processor options) that the link is listed with. Additionally, the "Manufacturer Number" associated with the result is quite far off the typical Apple model numbering system. Regardless of these inconsistencies, I thought I'd share this as an interesting tidbit rather than a verifiable leak.

Quick edit: I should clarify that "Intel Core i7 Haswell" is selected from the "Processor Type" section of the search tools on the left of the page.

The Model # on this website links to the current rMBP model #'s

ME664*/A or ME665*/A or ME698*/A, ME662*/A or ME663*/A or ME697*/A

Mfr# Z0PY-ME6645-Not sure about the additional digit "5"

I wonder if the model #'s change with a refresh or if they will remain with the ME vs. MF sku's
