You didn't clarify why it's releasing in that time. Although I'm not objecting, you state these facts that have already been posted in this thread, and are now all released. :)

The changes from the previous mbp to the new ones will be fairly significant, Battery Life, WiFi AC, SSD Speeds, and from the looks of it a change in line up or removal of dgpu.

Apple would never announce a MBP with those changes over a earnings call, and I doubt they will have another Conference just for the Macbook line up. If they have a MBP announcement it would have come out at WWDC

I have no idea where the notion of a July release came from, but I could only see that happening if it was going to be a minor spec bump like they did earlier this year with the rMBP

----------

I saw the article and Kuo seems to think that Apple will release an updated rMBP including the thinner lighter model around the third quarter. Which means around this time.

Definition of 'Quarter - Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4'
A three-month period on a financial calendar that acts as a basis for the reporting of earnings and the paying of dividends. A quarter refers to one-fourth of a year and is typically expressed as "Q." The four quarters that make up the year are: January, February and March (Q1); April, May and June (Q2); July, August and September (Q3); and October, November and December (Q4). A quarter is often shown with its relevant year, as in Q1 2012 or Q1/12, which represents the first quarter of the year 2012.

Or September :p

Probably waiting to release the Haswell machines along with 10.9
The scheduling technologies are going to benefit haswell parts with their low-power fast on/off sleep modes. We're going to see some nice battery gains across the board under idle and light conditions. Load conditions will be likely similar to current MBPs though.

I think Apple will go with dual core Iris Pro parts for the 13" rMBP and Quad Core plus dGPU for the 15" rMBP. At least I hope so since the Iris pro GPU would be a non-upgrade compared to the old pros 650.

We shall see.

2011 MBP:

- First MBPs with quad core
- First 13" with Intel Graphics
- First HD facetime cameras
- First computers with Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt announced by Intel and Apple alongside the MBP update.

That update was done on the Apple website and via a press release. As was the 2011 Air which added Thunderbolt, moved to Intel graphics, and added a backlit keyboard.

Late 2013 rMBP

- First to have worse performance than the previous gen.

If the Haswell rMBP comes with white bezel and white keys...

I will swallow the extra $1000 and buy one in a heartbeat. Even if it comes only with Intel HD 4600!

----

All kidding aside, I don't think Apple would do it. But if they do, that'd just make my 2014 purchase that much sweeter.

How ugly would white keys be? That would definitely be enough for me to buy the Feb 2013 model

So basically if we find out that Apple does go all integrated, is it for good or could they be waiting for Broadwell and Maxwell?

All the Haswell cpus haven't even been released yet.
Yes, this is exactly the reason why Apple have not yet released the MBPs. When they have the suitable Haswell parts from Intel in sufficient numbers, Apple will release the MBPs. It's really that simple. Intel drives the release schedule.

And there are other technologies but haswell that they may be waiting for.
No, there are no other technologies for which Apple might be waiting. The one we read the most speculation about is TB2, which Intel hope to release at the end of 2013. There is no way Apple would delay the Haswell MBPs even a week to incorporate a TB upgrade which is not yet in wide demand amongst customers. It's difficult to imagine more than a few thousand people delaying a MBP purchase to wait for TB2 and it's difficult to imagine more than a few dozen buying a wintel laptop (obviously without TB2) instead because they really wanted a MBP with TB2. Same logic for any other conceivable new technology.

i hope that they bring latest nvidia, because in terms of thermal the 750M is better than 650m, and on par with 650m is 760m....so no need to go all iGPU.

But the question remains : has Apple ever released products during the earning calls or right after in the past?

I tend to agree with everyone saying October. What are they gonna call it? MacBook Pro (mid-2013) when we already have MacBook Pro (early 2013). Makes more sense to call it MacBook Pro (late 2013). A July/August release doesn't qualify for 'late' does it?

At the Q3 earnings call in 2011, Apple announced the availability of new Macbook Airs the next day. They've also had Mid and Late 2007, and Early and Mid 2009 models of both the Macbook and Macbook Pro, so I doubt they'd hold off the release simply to get it labelled Late 2013. I think October 2013 also makes sense as a release date, but only if they're waiting for something more tangible than a better name.

February doesn't count as a refresh! They frequently update the MBP's half way through their cycle usually a 0.1GHz processor bump. Nothing substantial, nothing noteworthy of calling a refresh. I'd like to know if they've released anything after an earnings call too.

I agree for the 'doesn't really count as an update' but in Apple's catalogue it is. My question remains. What's the likelihood of Apple naming the rMBP 'mid-2013' when the current one is 'early 2013'. Did this happen before? I've always seen mid > early / late > mid / early > late but I find it hard to believe they'd go early > mid. But I may be completely wrong.

I'm certainly not gonna agree with Apple's way of doing things lately. I think it's an embarrassment to sell a $2K+ laptop that's been engineered in 2011 and released in 2012. The Air has better SSD, better wifi, better battery, newer processor architecture. I know the current rMBP isn't bad at all, I have a 15-inch I bought in February but at this point, it'd be a bit hard to swallow to have to wait until October.

I have so many people around me who decided to go for a cheaper Air when they were ready to shell more than $2K as the different specs create a real confusion.

I don't disagree that it also has to do with Intel, but they should have updated both lineups at the same time - the Air and the rMBP at the end of July then.

Oh I didn't know that. Well then, knowing the haswell chips they are probably considering are already out, we should see them soon.

I really hope they don't wait for freaking 10.9 or TB2. A lot of people are getting proper frustrated at this point.

Me included. :(

OMG guys... Last night I dreamt that Apple released the new rMBP's, and I went to the online Apple Store to buy the maxed out 15".

Guess I've been thinking too much about this. :p

I've heard from a few different people that haswell processors are run significantly hotter than ivy bridge. This is a concern for me because I try to keep my laptop cool for obvious reasons. Maybe I would just be better off with a rMBP now :/.

since it's likely that it will use Iris Pro now, the opposite is true. Iris Pro is a ~55watt solution with the likely overclock from apple. They are currently at around 90 watts with the GPU active. But, I anticipate that they'll prob make it a little thinner to compensate.

Wouldn't a journalist have an easy time finding out if Intel has shipped significant quantities of Haswells to Apple, or does Intel keep that kind of info under wraps?

Well hopefully your dream will become true soon! :D

What do journalist do? They call people ... You could also call Intel's PR department and ask nicely how many of those Haswell thingys the already chipped to Apple ....

(Sometimes I really wonder ....)

Good to know, the same may happen with this refresh (fingers crossed):)

Again, people say processors are not released. Untrue, all the possible candidates except 4960HQ is released. Please give us some sources before you make such a bold statement.

Releases according to their status on Intel's site? Yes.

Are there any computers from any company shipping with those CPUs yet? Nope.
