It has to be 2.6 with 8GB (save 900USD) OR 2.7 with 16GB.
They have an offer for the 2.6 with 8GB ram.

I'll probably get the 2.7 with 16GB RAM.

Still. 900 USD for +8GB Ram feels way to expensive.

The RAM upgrade is expensive (there's no denying that), but this is the only opportunity you'll get to upgrade it. If you find later that you need it, then you'll be out of luck if you didn't get it now (save for buying a new machine later down the road). I guess it comes down to whether you think you'll need it or not and weighing that against the upgrade price.

This wait is getting unbearable. Luckily I haven't done anything stupid like buying the current model in the past few weeks. Praying for last week of July release.

In my opinion, there is no way Apple is gonna release it before the end of the Back to School Promotion for two reasons, first they are not gonna give the promotion on a new technology and second they will have a very large number of returns in favor of exchange. Thoughts?

They can just exclude the New rMBP from the promo. Only the few that actually pay attention to specifications and this website would actually take the time to exchange. Majority of buyers purchase a Mac for the status quo, and don't give 2 shuts about Ivy vs Haswell vs iPad.

No matter when they release it there are going to be people who just purchased and who will want to return. Secondly, all they are offering is $100 free apps. Not like they are taking too big of a hit on that when you factor in that they will only have to fork over the developer's cut. I personally think it would be foolish not to launch as soon as they are ready.

I disagree a little. First, this has not been Apple's style to exclude certain new Macs from the promo. They only exclude refurbished. Also, there is a big suggestion that they are gonna replace the current ones and will not be available for sale. Finally, I am not sure about the return volume, but from reading all the Mac forums, there is a bunch of alert customers. I know this is really becoming tedious and I guess too much secrecy from Apple can hurt sometimes.

Apple is sometimes foolish enough to just stick to the PLAN even if products are ready. I like it when other manufactures just release the technology when they have it instead of having to wait to make a very big launch for several products together. At the end of the day, I am not a marketing or sales expert and Apple will do what they want regardless....

I am not in marketing either, I just think in this sluggish computer market if you can get a leg up on competitors by being first to market with a Haswell machine you jump on it. I also think you jump on it to maximize the back to school crowd that may go with a PC or a cheaper Air.

Totally agree....but hopefully Apple will do too!!

How many people read the MacBook Pro forum? Maybe 10,000-50,000. How many have actually bought an rMBP in the last two weeks? Maybe a thousand at the very very most; and there's still the question of how many would care enough to return theirs. I honestly don't see how returns could hurt Apple that much. If they do release new rMBPs next week, the more popular cMBPs will likely not get an update, and will be discontinued whenever stocks run out.

Well, I really hope they just do it and release it TOMORROW :D. This will be my first Mac and I am so excited about the switch!

If they choose to release it this month it'll be on July 23 during the investor conference or shortly after that.

I wish they could just tell us when they are going to release it, so one can decide whether to wait or not, but I guess that is a marketing strategy. What if they did not release it on July 23rd? Should one go ahead and buy now or wait and for how long!! Very frustrating...

I know this is a little off-topic, but does anyone know if there are any rumors about a new Mac display? I cannot work on the laptop without a large display and on the day of the release of the rMBP, I was hoping they will also release the new display or a little after....Any clues?
