Um... http://store.apple.com

Check the current rMBP 15".

Low-end (2.4GHz)
Mid-end (2.7GHz)
High-end only BTO (2.8GHz)

How about before the February refresh?

Low-end (2.3GHz)
Mid-end (2.6GHz)
High-end only BTO (2.7GHz)

Clearly there's a pattern.

And the fact that Intel's database has only 3 CPUs that carry Iris Pro is a dead giveaway that they made those CPUs specifically to follow Apple's pattern.

I'd trust a reputable source that has talked to Intel in late June more than someone who just read a website.

Yeah, um... you're forgetting the fact that they need enough volume for a worldwide launch.

U.S. is not the only country they have to satisfy the demands for.

They did try to make things on demand before, and it turned out horrible, so Apple has been much more on top of volumes as of late.

Those 3 Iris Pro CPU's will probably go in the 13in and I highly doubt apple will have same specced machines on the 13in and 15in. If they did then the only differentiating factor between the 13 and 15 is the screen size and memory?

I thought the 13" was getting dual core iris 5100 cpu's
While the 15" was getting quad core iris pro 5200 cpu's

Hi all,

Even though I do am waiting for a 13'' rMBP with Haswell I do have one point to make. At least on paper I *may* prefer a 4650U (the high-end CPU of the new Air) compared to 4558U (the 28W Iris 5100) that reputedly Intel will put in the 13'' rMBP.

Both dual cores, both top out at 3.3Ghz, one has nominal speed 1.7, the other 2.8, but since top turbo is the same *maybe* when you need the performance the difference won't be that great. Granted the 4558U has Iris 5100 instead of HD 5000 but then again it misses out on vPro, Trusted Execution and TSX-NI (which can be a big omission down the road). Not to mention that 15W compared to 28W is a big difference.

Again, please don't bash. I am not saying I prefer it as in "I'll go buy an Air". All I'm saying is that I would have preferred a bigger gap to the high-end Air for my future rMBP.

Just my $0.02

I would think the same thing. I don't know if he was looking at the fact that those 3 Iris Pro CPUs are only Quad core and will wreck havoc on the cooling system of the 13". Now maybe in a couple years we will get a quad core in the 13"... But it is almost a general consensus that the 13" will get the dual core with Iris 5100 (which there are also only 3 of).

N=2 constitutes a pattern? Centuries of modern statistics begs to differ.

While brushing up on statistics, you might want to add Logic 101 to the queue. Hint: Intel has many customers.

And you're "forgetting" (aka blissfully unaware of) how massive these factories can ramp up production.

Please leave matters of operations to those of us who specialize in that field. Thanks.

Actually, I think it's highly, highly doubtful that you'll see those 3 Irises (i.e., 5200s) in the 13". The component costs are just too high, and they would thus destroy margins--which has been the biggest problem in the last two quarters of earnings.

Intel have tons of fab plans everywhere, eleven IIRC ...

we need not to worry about them not being able to keep up with the demand ...

if anything it should be manufacturer that uses AMD processors that should be worry about the yields

Didn't the Haswell MBA hit the shelves around the same time the ULV Haswell processors were released (at least in the same month as the release)? It wasn't "months later". I see no reason why Apple couldn't get the Haswell rMBPs out just as quickly.

The 13" gets the 3 28W CPUs, two i5s and one i7, that are dual core with Iris 5100 graphics.

If "something" is bound to be updated, what's left? Displays?

Someone said iMacs needs to wait until September for desktop processors...

Lets get real

Like you I want the latest and greatest, and since I'm in the Mac forum I don't mind paying for good workmanship.

Me:
  1. I'm not a gamer (anymore)
  2. I use VM's a lot
  3. I use Photoshop, Premiere and Lightroom
  4. I need (want) the fastest cpu + gpu, most mem, biggest SSD, best screen money can buy... so I want the 15" rMBP (ME665A/X)

What do we know:
1.- Haswell is %10 faster clock for clock, but generates ~15% more heat.
2.- Iris is 40%~75% the performance of 650m
3.- Haswell + Iris will give you ~15% better battery and ~50% if you're using the dGPU.
4.- New products usually have issues, and they don't get resolved for 1-4 months.
5.- There's a dearth of Haswell laptops... MBA and very, very few Windows machines.
6.- The Haswell's around are clocked lower but offer the ~ same performance.

What's up for debate:
1.- There will probably be a refresh quite soon (December) as manufacturing lines improve yields and process.
2.- There's quite a high probability Apple will opt for iGPU in the rMBP's it's easier, cheaper, more elegant solution, with significant battery saving and in most cases offers better performance just bcos of the iGPU dGPU switching.
3.- PCIe SSD... this on paper blows everything away... but in real life testing only seems to speed up IO by 10%. This is my most wanted feature.
4.- Since there are SO few haswell's out there any Apple seems to already have the most... I really doubt they'll be releasing anything until some competition arrives. The competition is trickle feeding in, and will start ramping up towards August > Sep... so I think October will be the date for new rMBP + Mavericks.
5.- 802.11ac is another nice to have.

So bottom line:
1.- We'll have to wait for October before we can buy.
2.- We'll have to wait for December before we can buy stable system.
3.- For the wait we can expect the same CPU performance.
Less max GPU performance, more everyday GPU performance.
10% better IO.
50% faster WiFi.

There's always something better coming.
Early adopters often pay for their impatience.

What's it going to be?

The way I see it:
Best to wait until December-February, or already bought.

If "something" is bound to be updated, what's left? Displays?

Someone said iMacs needs to wait until September for desktop processors...

It's been almost exactly two years since the Thunderbolt display was updated. It could use a refresh with Magsafe 2, USB 3, and the thinner, laminated, reduced-glare display like the new 27" iMac has.

At that point you might as well wait till june for the next up date :p

Yup. You are spot-on. bill-p is just spouting drivel.

Respectfully, you are out of your mind. That was one of the most illogical posts I've seen yet. It in no way reflected facts, reality, or history.

Again, I'm just going to make this clear to everyone that thinks just because Mavericks is coming out in October that it somehow makes it the only time the cMBP/rMBP line can be updated.

Apple has updated the line in advance of a new OS in the past, one that was already announced!

Re-read all your posts and you'll find out you are boring the audience by trying to nullify other's point of view and giving lectures on every subject, especially on how good you are at business operations... It looks like modesty is not part of your vocabulary... If you don't have any contribution, respect at least others freedom of speech without having to jump all over everybody because it contradicts your superior logic...

Your are becoming a persona non grata in this thread... A down vote button would have proven my statements... ;)

It's humorously ironic that in the same breath as you drone on about freedom of speech, you believe that you have the moral authority to curtail mine.

It's also amusing that you think you're in a position to declare me persona non grata.

If people make junk up, or assert things that are supported by neither facts or evidence, then I'm well within my rights to criticize them. People do not have some innate, God-given right to spout off nonsense.

In other words: take a hike.

December-February!?! Your whole post didn't make much sense. And what do you mean the people who buy it when it first come out its not as good! I have a friend who got the rMBP about a week after it was on sale and his works just as fine as one you could get from the apple store today!

Exactly what I have been thinking every time I see someone say that. They just updated the MBA before mavericks, and last year they came out with the rMBP just before mountain lion.

Really? Lets look at the latest releases...

Mountain Lion: Lots of issues until 10.8.3... 8months
rMBP: Screen ghosting issue, noisey fans... 4 months before
MBA 2013: Wifi, screen flickering... 1.5 months

So as you can imagine it's a guess...

New cooling, new mobo, new Haswell SoC, new OS... go ahead be my guinea pig... :D

July is coming rapidly to a close and without any leaks or substantial rumors, I think it is safe to say no July update (always hoping for a surprise though).

I read that August is not usually a target month for Apple? At least regarding Macs? Not sure about that but if its true I guess no update this month either.

That leaves September.

Nobody is perfect like you... You must be surrounded by people like you... I am eager to see what would look like a creative contribution of yours without having to quote and criticize others...

I have some empathy for you because it seems you have been criticized a lot in your upbringing. It is never late to break the chain and free yourself from negativity...

By the way, I said you are 'becoming' not that you are a persona non grata...

Havoc the cooling system. Ohh No - I don't think so. Its a marketing issue but not a technical issue.

Cooling is mainly a function of the size of the heatsink and the airflow.

The heat from the CPU is dissipated very central. The heat-sink is not going over the full inside laptop.

Don't believe me? Look at the heatsink size at ifixit for the 13" and the 15"

So to me is clearly a marketing, cost etc issue but for sure not the cooling.

Why are you attacking people in this thread man, maybe you should leave.
