Really? Lets look at the latest releases...

Mountain Lion: Lots of issues until 10.8.3... 8months
rMBP: Screen ghosting issue, noisey fans... 4 months before
MBA 2013: Wifi, screen flickering... 1.5 months

So as you can imagine it's a guess...

New cooling, new mobo, new Haswell SoC, new OS... go ahead be my guinea pig... :D

there's always something new in every refresh, some can be fixed with simple update ... others , well ... there is a reason apple has 14-day return policy isn't it?

Why are you attacking people in this thread man, maybe you should leave.

I think people have become so restless during this wait that they are resorting to attacking each other in frustration. I hope Apple hurries up and releases this new MBP, because at this rate, I don't think any of us are going to make it till September...

lol :D

Refurbs seem to be getting less available as well, but that's not really an indication of anything.

To be honest, I'm not even sure I'm going to get a new laptop this year. The extra battery life, nicer display and smaller size/weight of the rMBP is nice, but my 2010 MBP w/matte display still works pretty well (especially since I put in an SSD and extra RAM myself). And while the rMBP looks nice in the store, I'm not sure if I can get over the reflections in the display. I mean, my last MBP had a glossy screen and I dealt with it, but still.

(Speaking of glossy displays, I was also cross-shopping the Vaio Pro 13. The reflections on that machine are definitely worse, to the point where you pretty much have to run at 100% brightness all the time.)

You know, they do sell matte anti-gloss finishes for these computers for a reason right?

I'm aware they make films for a variety of products. Most of them, however, make the screen look gritty and rainbow-y (like the one currently on my HTC One, for example).

Again, I'm just going to make this clear to everyone that thinks just because Mavericks is coming out in October that it somehow makes it the only time the cMBP/rMBP line can be updated.

Apple has updated the line in advance of a new OS in the past, one that was already announced!

You're totally right!

I bought my iMac in 2011 right after it was released.

It shipped with Snow Leopard, but one month later, Apple released Lion.

As it was released right after I bought my iMac, I got a free upgrade to Lion. I just had to enter my serial number on Apple's website, and then I got a voucher code for the Mac App Store to download Lion.

So I'm 100% sure Apple isn't holding a release back just to ship it with Mavericks.

it is difficult, for matte screens to achieve the level of detail glossy screens provide.

Yep. Contrast and detail wise, matte screens are FAR behind glossy.

*October

;)

So basically if we don't hear anything Wednesday, I'm ordering one. How much better is the haswell really going to be? Not good enough for me to wait till October. The only reason to wait is if they release a 17inch and discontinue the regular mbp and along with that new pricing.

That makes good sense to me.

If there ever were any issue with a new OS and some new hardware together, then having the known working configuration of an old, proven OS on the new HW as a rollback option would make a lot of sense. Nothing like an easy plan to avert disaster, however unlikely, to help make a number of new product rollouts less stressfull for customer and manufacturer. Finally, it makes further good sense, because some users may wish to delay the upgrade or switch to newer OS because a certain software is not yet compatible with the new OS. So hw first and OS second sounds like a good plan. That's my 2 cents, FWIW.

802.11ac & PCIe SSD too. It is not just about the Haswell CPU. ;)

I'm more than ready for Haswell and willl wait.

I used to refresh my laptops every 2 years. But my current Macbook Pro is from 2010....it's the longest I've ever gone to update. So, a month or 2, 3 won't kill me, but it's painful, lol

How much faster are the ssd but yes your right. I'm addicted to fast connections so the wifi is a biggie for me.

I just got a 802.11ac router in December. I'm addicted to high bandwidth too.

The PCIe SSD should raise read/write from about 500Mb-480Mb/s to 900Mb-1.3Gb/s depending on what SSD they use specifically. I doubt we will be able to "feel" the difference in the SSD but I like that things are moving forward.

In general the new rMBP will be souped up in a lot of ways. Processor, Storage, Networking and maybe we'll see some other surprises like all day battery life. The wait continues! :)

It's just gonna be a shame if they do ditch the dGPU on the 15" and there is no BTO to add one.

Despite knowing that Haswell was just around the corner I recently acquired a late 2012 rMPB. I was in desperate need of a new computer, so my boss (very kindly) allowed me to get one on the company account. I didn't think he would take too kindly to me suggesting: 'there's a new one coming out at an undisclosed time in the future, can I wait for that one please?!' Besides, a £1000+ computer isn't something you turn down!

I am still interested in Haswell, however - before I got my rMBP I was considering an iMac for home use (to replace a geriatric MacMini), but now I'm tempted to get a 15' rMBP as a desktop replacement that could also be very useful for travelling. With the battery increases seen in the MacBook Air I'm really excited to see what the battery life of the new rMBPs is like.

But will this next update signal the death of the cMBP...?

Maybe not to those of you with "modern" MBP's, but sitting here with a late '08 machine, I expect I'll see at least a wee bit of difference! :D

Of course I only meant when comparing the new PCIe SSD to the previous SATA III SSD :D

My 2009 MBP came with a 320GB Hard Drive but I since added a 60GB SSD to where the Optical Drive used to be and installed the OS and my Apps on that. It is an old SATA II Model with low IOP's though so I'm hopeful I'll see a difference with the new PCIe SSD in the forthcoming rMBP models.
