Refurb stock has gone up a bit. Maybe I'll take advantage if there's no news tomorrow, considering that the lag issues are supposedly fixed in Mavericks.

Man, it wasn't a GM. But maybe Apple just didn't want to call it a GM? (If it is in fact a GM rMBPs might be here soon, shipping with Mavericks!)

No, if it was GM, Apple would call it GM.

It's just Preview 4.

And in 2 weeks, it'll be Preview 5...

And then in another 2 weeks, it'll be Preview 6...

And then after another 2 weeks, it'll be GM.

So 6 weeks from now... leading into September.

You should stop holding your breath, new MBPs are going to be released in September according to Kuo (link to 9to5 http://9to5mac.com/2013/07/22/analy...-ipad-mini-haswell-imacsmacbook-pros-in-2013/ )

I Honestly don't trust any of the 'Apple Analyst' much anymore.

http://9to5mac.com/2013/06/02/wwdc-...macbook-air-microphone-improvements-expected/

Back in the Beginning of June that same analyst said the MBP was getting a update at WWDC and it didn't happen then...

Alright you win with all of your charts and references :p

But that is not to say WiFi AC wont be useful for most people. Not everyone is working with ideal conditions and an upgrade is an upgrade. In this case it will be future proofing as well.

Also, at the very least for all of us, wont wifi AC expand the range?

With Kuo's report, the chances of new MacBook Pro's on Wednesday are much smaller. He has been right on with his predictions a lot.

The first line of the 9to5 article makes reference to Kuo not being particularly accurate with timing...

At the very least I hope some kind of release date or timeline is mentioned tomorrow if it isn't released.

blahh.. if they dont release a timeline tomorrow or the new product line I'll probably buy too.

Quick question regarding refurbs: I see a June 2012 refurb model that ships with the latest operating system.

when apple refurbs a computer - do they refurb it to that time period? or do they update it (logic board etc) to whatever the current models have?

for example how would a June 2012 refurb compare to a current retina macbook pro with same speed processor, memory amount, and flash drive size?

would the components be identical or would the refurb still potentially have any flaws that the later models ironed out? thanks!

Lets just say hypothetically speaking if apple releases the new MBP's tomorrow, will they be announced during the call or shortly after the call is done as a Silent update??

I know that when they updated the Airs after an earnings call (2011, I think) , they announced during the call that Lion would be released the next day, but didn't mention the MBAs or the mac mini's. They just released them the next day silently. If they follow that pattern, I would expect a wednesday release.

Hasn't Apple usually tried to do one update per year? The last one was in March, so wouldn't it be just as likely that it'll be updated in 2014?

It's pretty much the same as a machine sold during that time frame in terms of logic board, but any problems encountered during the refurb process are fixed before sale. You could always go to the Apple Store in the unlikely event that your refurb has the screen retention issue, for example.

Then they'll be a generation behind on Intel's chips for a long time. That could hurt market share.

(I hope your comment is sincere...)

That is true, but there is precedent for it from other PC makers. The Lenovo X1 Carbon came out near the end of Ivy Bridge and before Haswell, for example. Also, if Apple is waiting for TB2 then an end of 2013/beginning of 2014 release might be realistic after all.

The general timeframe recently has been about 8 months between updates, counting minor spec bumps as updates.

Feb 2011
Oct 2011
June 2012
Feb 2013
?

Following that trend a late September or October release would be likely, but that schedule has also generally followed when Intel makes new chips available.

Your last point is more robust: chip availability is the biggest driver.

As for the "8 month" bit, while Macrumors qualifies February 2013 as the "last update" for the rMBP, as far as the 15" goes, that's a farce. The only change (aside from under-the-hood improvements) was the drop-in replacement of 2.4Ghz chips for 2.3Ghz ones. The entire February press release focused, in fact, on the price change for the 13" models. As such, the more appropriate benchmark for the 15" rMBP is last June--and that's awfully long in the tooth for Apple's best selling Mac model.
