Any comments on this article about Apple adopting Igzo displays for MacBooks in early 2014 in terms of effecting current anticipated Haswell release. If they could move that up to a September-October timeframe, thinking I would be alright with that. I see a huge "Back to the Mac" event in the near future.

I hope Apple would not delay the rMBPs until Q1, if thats the case, might as well wait for the 5th generation of Intel processors. Waiting sucks...

My totally uninformed and uneducated opinion leads me to believe it would be unwise to rush to adopt a new technology. I don't think they'll be able to push Early 2014 to September-October. That's quite a bit of time that could be spent on testing and things of that sort.

I doubt they are going to wait that long. Mac sales have already been down in June. With the MBP making up 70% of Apples notebook sales, the sooner they release it, the better.

fml...now possibly Sept? ! there should be some sort of pre-apple release anxiety/check macrumors obsessive/compulsive disorder syndrome by now! only cure us a rogue employee that keeps us in the know! :p

That article is clearly ********.

"But the promo runs through September 6th, pointing to that timeframe as the release date for the new MacBook Pro."

Huh? What's the reasoning behind that?

"Apple typically uses the first half of September to launch new versions of its mobile products."

What? No it doesn't. Just take a look at the release dates of the laptops in Macrumors Buyers Guide. Most have been updated in August, or October if we're looking at the "Mid" year time frame.

Seriously, where do you guys dig up all these articles?

Your last point is more robust: chip availability is the biggest driver.

As for the "8 month" bit, while Macrumors qualifies February 2013 as the "last update" for the rMBP, as far as the 15" goes, that's a farce. The only change (aside from under-the-hood improvements) was the drop-in replacement of 2.4Ghz chips for 2.3Ghz ones. The entire February press release focused, in fact, on the price change for the 13" models. As such, the more appropriate benchmark for the 15" rMBP is last June--and that's awfully long in the tooth for Apple's best selling Mac model.

Well the Feb 2013 update was pretty comparable to the Oct 2011 update. I believe that one also updated the GPUs a bit but it was still just a drop in chip update to newer revisions.

Except that there are many examples of Apple updating products during the BTS promotion.

I don't think they'll be able to push Early 2014 to September-October.

I kind of aggree, but if they don't release something this week that probably pushes things into September time-frame which kind of crowds a early 2014 release w/ Igzo. Either way, if the Igzo rumor is true, kind of seeing a pretty unimpresive release this time around, would think their efforts would be concentrated on Igzo release.

This is going to crush many people, including myself, if Kuo is on target with the rMBP not getting a release until September.

I'm still holding out some hope here.

Personally, if there's no announcement I may buy a refurb. I have a hard trime trying to justify a nearly $3.5k after AppleCare and sales tax machine (which I'll have to max out since it's not upgradable later). Also, I have no plans to get any Thunderbolt devices or replace my 802.11n router with one that supports ac, nor do I absolutely need anywhere near 12 hours battery life. 7 hours is perfectly fine for me since I'm plugged in most of the time. The only possible issue is the GPU performance/screen lag, of which the latter is fixed in Mavericks anyway.

That was a much bigger bump. February 2013 saw a piddly 0.1Ghz increase and nothing else. October 2011 saw, as you pointed out:
•*0.2 Ghz increase, plus
•*The 6750M, which was a significantly better card. (As an occasional gamer, this was the feature that made me sell my previous generation to buy the new generation.)

Granted, it was a minor refresh, but substantive. February of this year was the proverbial fart in the wind.

I'll just continue waiting if that's the case. It's only a month and a half. I've waited this long. But I'm really hoping we see the release this week.

I still believe that in Apples mind it counts as a refresh. If I recall correctly they even put a new sticker on those.

Yes, they did indeed, but don't confuse external marketing efforts with marketing needs. To consumers, this thing looks pretty outdated right now, and that's even more true as other manufacturers release their Haswell models. Especially if tomorrow's call shows Mac sales numbers that are roughly in line with the projections that came out today, there's a really big problem in Mac sales. Apple can't really afford to wait.

I'm inclined to believe that they will be having a huge event somewhere in september, releasing the mbps, the mp, the ipads and the ipods/iphone(s). That'd be rather logical if you remember Cook's last year's words about "not taking the foot of the gas" and being the only company capable of refreshing their whole lineup of mobile products at once (or something along the lines).

Besides, there are a couple of reasons why releasing the mbps in september seems reasonable:
-TB2
-Haswell getting new chips somewhere around that time, 4960HQ being particularly interesting
-Mavericks
-Another "pro" device being released at that time, so they might separate the event into mobile and pro parts

I don't think we'll see anything today, but I hope to see something in this week.

I have good hopes for today. Apple's Q2 earnings call is today and based on the shipping delays we have seen, today is looking pretty good. Apple may or may not announce the new laptops in the earnings call. If not, they may just silently update the store later in the day. If that doesn't happen, well...let's not think about that just yet.

Yay for watabou! Everyone else seems to have given up hope for a July release :p

Well, I have put money aside for my 15" rMBP :D Just waiting for Apple to release it.

I really really hope we'll see a release this week. Hopefully today or tomorrow (however, the conference call is at 11PM my local time, so if they release it at the call/after, I will probably have to wait until I wake up tomorrow to buy it :D)

Kuo probably has some supply chain sources, so a prediction today for September makes a release this month seem unlikely. September lines up with the timing of the benchmarks, and with the potential Mavericks launch (or at least an up-to-date program). Conveniently for Apple, it's also just after their shortened BTS promo, which I think ends two weeks earlier than last years'?

Kao have been wrong before. Maybe he is wrong now again..

Oh please, kuo ain't ****. I don't know how you can take his/her predictions (whatever "it" is) when he/she was just wrong about a rMBP refresh @ WWDC. I honestly think he/she uses large apple events to make bs predictions to more famous news sites to gain attention. She/he makes a prediction about some things, gets it half right but the wrong half gets excused because it's clouded by the fact that he/she threw in the right date of the event. People are too stupid to understand these events are already set in stone. Honestly some of the stuff mentioned by him/her I've seen on this forum prior to it becoming large news.
