I found I deal on craigslist for a retina macbook pro 15" for 1000 dollars. Is this too good to be true?

it has 2.6 ghz intel i7, 8 gb ram, 512 gb ssd hard drive. it is a 2012 model.

I really need a laptop for college which is starting soon, should I pull the trigger and get this laptop, or wait for haswell whenever that should be

If you can get a 15" for $1000, and it doesn't have something wrong with it, then I would go for it. You're looking at paying probably twice that for a Haswell 15" when it's released, and it's not looking like the Haswell 15" is going to be that big of an upgrade as far as performance goes.

Hey all I just bought my first rMBP tonight. I was looking at the 13" 256SSD with the i5 processor and the intel graphics card for $1,599. After reading through this thread I decided to do some shopping on the apple refurb site and found a 15" baseline rMBP 2.3 i7 quad core 256ssd drive and Nvidia graphics card for $1,599. I just pulled the trigger on the 15". I mostly use my computer for photo editing/processing, I do a lot in HDR and some light gaming. Do you guys think I made the right call? Thanks...

you got the, the main advantage on the 15 inch is the quad core and dedicated Video card. That will make the speed difference when processing the photos

omg, if the macbook doesnt have problems, i will definitely get it. the SSD you can sell it for $460 by itself

When I go to see the condition of the laptop, how do I test to see if all of the internals are working properly?

check outside for dent/scratches. turn in on and check "About my mac" to make sure the config matches what he is selling for

Does this look like the ad you're seeing?

I have a similar ad (same specs and price) in my geography, but a different picture and description. The last time I emailed a person about this exact same configuration and price a month ago, I never heard back.

I can't figure out what the scam is, since Craigslist allows anonymous emails now. But it doesn't add up.

My guess is they put a too good to be true deal up in as many locations as they can and hope they're able to find some sucker who will agree to send them money over Paypal or something. Then they'll "send the laptop to you". Even if only one person is dumb enough to fall for it, then it will have paid off. But I'm wondering how successful it is in this day and age. I would've thought by now people would know that's the format of a Craigslist scam.

That's very interesting. Would also explain the slight delay relative to the other haswells.

I continue to think that they will push out the new MBPs whenever they are ready.

So it's almost clear now, we will get Haswell GT3e without discrete graphics this time, as SemiAccurate wrote 3 months ago.

http://semiaccurate.com/2013/07/25/apple-gets-a-special-haswell-for-the-macbook-pro/

If you we're considering 2.4 GT3e (like me) to be a little bit low on CPU clock and GPU itself behind current 650GT, worry no more, we will get something special.

I just can't wait! :)

No idea what that article says.
Or if they actually have any news what so ever we don't already know.
And i'm sure as **** ain't gonna pay for a subscription to find out.
But they are known to be kinda Semi accurate with their articles (pun intended! :D)

But iv'e been wondering if: Wouldn't it be possible for Apple to ad a separate DDR5 2gb (or so) video ram to the iris pro?
Or is that just not technically possible what so ever?
Sure the cache is nice and does a lot. But wouldn't Iris Pro benefit greatly from some extra fast ram instead of snatching up some of the standard DDR3 ram.

I just think mid-september is stupid. That's about a week into most college's classes - most students who are going to upgrade are going to go ahead and get the current model before the school year starts. They either need to release it a couple of weeks before most colleges start their classes, or do it later (say, October), so as to not piss everyone off.

Then again, they can do whatever they want. They're Apple.

The majority of people here will not be able to read that article and there is no other information about this on any other website

Mid-September will be the iPhone, MBP's will come in October.

Why should apple give a discount on a brand new product that people will buy anyways? Although I am not sure why they did it with the Air, but it makes complete sense for them to hold of till October. It will also catch the Holiday season.

You get a student discount anyways, and I doubt students are the #1 customer for a rMBP

It says what I wrote it says, there will be a Iris Pro in upcoming Macbook Pro, they wrote it like 3 months ago and confirmed today that there will be a high-performance option (probably a BTO version) of Haswell chip that only Apple will get. rMBP reserved.

I use current Air when I'm on the road or away from office and have to say that battery life is phenomenal. I can even play games (I only play some of Blizzard titles in spare time, WoW mostly) few hours on battery power. With rMBP you can get as much as 1 hour. Lower details of course, but it's playable with great frame rates and 4+ hours.

I bet Apple is aiming the same with rMBP. With Iris Pro there is a chance, with any dGPU battery would be burned within 1 hour. So in the end, dumping dGPUs makes sense. We will get lower performance in some cases, games for example, but with optimized software and we can be sure that OSX will be well optimized for this new Haswell the performance will kill the competition thanks to 128MB L4 cache.

Sorry, but that's incorrect. There was some improvements/changes to the innards, although nothing I would worry about that much.

Do you have any information on the other changes that were made? I'm very curious as to what exactly was changed.

Still not getting what your saying.
Are you saying that they wrote that there will only be iris pro chips in the new rMBP (Iris pro cpus are NOT exclusive to apple)
Or are you saying that there will be a dGPU option or even a "Unreleased/Unannonced" beefed up iris pro from intel that is exclusive for apple?

A number of people have said that September is impossible because of past launch schedules, iPhone/iOS, etc. I originally thought this too, but September was the iPhone launch month only last year, with October the year before. This year is already outside of Apple's usual timing with iOS and OS X updates due. I'm sure Apple would like to launch the iPhone as soon as they can, but if there are delays in the iPhone and iOS 7, they might be able to fit in a Mac event before that.

About the February 2013 refresh and other changes: http://9to5mac.com/2013/02/16/new-m...acbook-pros-use-some-upgraded-internal-parts/

The part everyone can see is this:

Apple has somehow convinced Intel to give them a unique part for the next MacBook Pro, something that no one else will get. Not only that, this ultra-high performance part is something no one else can get for technical reasons.

So it sounds like there might be a sort of Iris Pro+ custom-made for Apple. Now that would be interesting.
