Lets say they have both September for iPhone, and October for iPad.
whats the point of releasing macs on October if they are going to do a silent refresh anyway?

the paradigm has shifted to tablets ...
mac sales are declining, and the longer they delay the refresh the longer those numbers will recover.

It's not going to be a silent refresh. I bet they'd like to brag about how they ditched the discrete GPU and how they improved battery life in the process without sacrificing much performance.

Plus having one event just to announce a single Mac Pro and Mavericks would be boring. They need more hardware. And what's better to showcase Mavericks than new MacBooks?

For the 15" rMBP, how much a difference will Haswell really make? Realistically.

25-50% decreased graphics performance.
Possibly 50% increased computing performance for some tasks
Extra 1-2 hours of battery life, but it's more consistent. (so you won't have any situation where battery life drops to 2-3 hours)

So yesterday we were all on board with Ming-Chi-Kuo's estimates of a September launch, but today it is suddenly October because other products may be coming out in September? Please.

Well so much for the waiting /: my choices were to buy the new rmbp if they came out today or to upgrade my early 2011 mbp to 16GB RAM, add an SSD in the optical drive and change my battery. I guess it'll be the latter for now.

This site is not names macrumors for nothing. See how easily you guys create reality and then people get angry when the rumors don't pan out. :)

I wouldn't call it "creating reality"; rather given no insider information, just trying to make a decision based on information that is available (mostly, external events that may give a clue into Apple's mind).

If next MBPr is nothing more than a CPU swap, I'm going to start looking for a deal on a current MBPr. But, if there is a chance that we are looking at the beginning of a leap in technologies (e.g. Haswell, PCIe, 802.11ac, TB2 w/ 4K capabilities, IGZO 3200x1800 energy efficient displays, larger SSD, longer battery life, enhanced aluminum casing, .....).

Well heck I've replaced the hard-drive in my iMac, macBook is struggling, but I have the iPad to fall back too, I have a good back-up solution, have to put a few video projects on hold, but I can hold out another 2-4 more months.

I think I'm ready to go ahead and buy a used rMBP off Craigslist to use through my first semester of college until I upgrade at break to Haswell. Does a 2.6/16/512 model from last August with AppleCare till 7/2015 and Windows 7 preinstalled for $2000 sound like a good deal? It has a Samsung display as well and is in really good shape judging by the pics.

There is a lot of talk about Fingerprint scanner in the iPhone but what about the MBP's?

It would be lot easier and could be useful?

I've always said October.

People are impatient, so they chanted "July" for a long time.

Now that "July" is extremely unlikely (hey, we have only a week of it left), some are holding out hope for September.

But me... I'd still say October, because that's more in line with Apple's schedule from previous years.

Haswell - of course

PCIe SSD - of course, but not sure what it'll be good for because the current drive is already blazingly fast...

802.11ac - of course

TB 2.0 w/ 4K - not sure... 50/50 because while TB 2.0 sounds nice, pushing the internal display + external 4K display with just Iris Pro doesn't sound like a good idea. Also because TB 2.0 doesn't allow daisy chaining so you lose the ability to connect another display through the other Thunderbolt port. Plus Apple would have to introduce a 4K display of their own that supports the input.

IGZO 3200 x 1800 - not a chance. 3200 x 1800 is 16:9 aspect ratio, so Apple would have to change the form factor. And IGZO is prohibitively expensive right now... unless you want a price hike from the current models.

Larger standard SSD - judging from the MacBook Air? Not a chance
Longer battery life - possible, but don't expect twice the battery life like the Air
Enhanced aluminum casing - not sure what they can do to "enhance" it other than going carbon fiber

About half of your "leap in technologies" will certainly be part of the next model, since the same tech is already in the new Airs. The rest looks more 2014 to me, but that is just a feeling. Breakdown:

Haswell: certainly in the next model, whenever it will arrive
PCIe: seems very likely, technology is ready (Air has it)
802.11ac: very likely (Air has it)
TB2: Late in 2013... either would lead to a very late MBP update or be part of a 2014 update
IGZO: don't know... but one should hear about shipments etc... 2014 or later
larger SSD: Already available... prices will come down over time
new casing/design: Unlikely for the current refresh imho, this stuff tends to leak out... 2014 or never?

edit: bill-p beat me to it. Seems we agree on the basics, and I forgot about the battery ;)

Which one did you get? I have a 15" 2.7GHz rMBP from last June. It's amazing. You won't be disappointed. The battery life is already amazing for a 15" laptop.

I got the 15" 2.6GHz refurbished. It has 16 GB RAM and 512 GB HDD. It was only $2189 so i figured I should grab it before they run out of that configuration. I'm really looking forward to playing around with it, being as my last laptop was a MBP from 2008.

2.7ghz February 2013 16gb RAM 512gb flash. BOOM!
Friday cannot come soon enough :D

My last Macbook was a 13" Pro Mid 2010, hoping for a bit of a jump :)

Fall semester starts in six weeks and I don't know if I can wait. So many people are giving up and it looks like the new 15" model will be slightly underpowered.

if people can wait then do so if not then go buy one. Dont know why folks say the early 2013 is old generation this and that. I can agree to some extent but yeah once you get the haswell and you go buy it, the next refresh will make even that outdated this is the drawbacks of gadgets they get outdated sooner.
I do require another retina i can wait and i am not hoping for anything but i for the heck of it im looking at october if it comes early then id be happier:D

I think it's a good deal..
You can get the same spec rmbp from the apple refurbished store for maybe $2200 (no AppleCare).

So you pretty much save around $500 so GOOD DEAL!

My understanding is you will be able to daisychain based on this article. Thought the daisychain issue was with TB1.

Thinking on this wish-list is they release MacBook Pro and Mac Pro side-by-side. Brother-and-Sister which brings in the MBPr casing to match MP, perfect time for minor tweaks for moving from 16:10 to 16:9 for IGZO display, matching TB2 ports, maybe even a TB2 Cinema Display with matching casing; 4K version to come latter... That would be an event.....

Just don't see them doing a MB-Air type update, given the additional wait. If not, I won't get too disappointed, 802.11ac is worth waiting for given I use a NAS.

That's really a dream scenario. I'm fine with the current rMBP design, and that's likely what we will see in the new one.
